The number of data centres built around the world is forecast to rise enormously. JLL, a real estate company, estimates that data centre capacity will double between 2025 and 2030 – with AI expected to account for half that demand. Andrea Marinoni at the University of Cambridge, UK, and his colleagues saw that the amount of energy needed to run a data centre had been steadily increasing of late and was likely to “explode” in the coming years, so wanted to quantify the impact. The researchers took satellite measurements of land surface temperatures over the past 20 years and cross-referenced them against the geographical coordinates of more than 8400 AI data centres. New details have emerged surrounding the death of Deadliest Catch deckhand Todd Meadows, who died on February 25, aged 25, during filming for season 22 of the Discovery Channel show. Todd was the newest crew member on the Aleutian Lady, a fishing vessel featured in the high-stakes reality series about crab fishing, who “fell overboard” approximately 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, just after 5 p.m. local time, a spokesperson for the United States Coast Guard Arctic District said in a statement. Todd was found “unresponsive” by crew members about 10 minutes after falling off the boat, and first aid and attempts to resuscitate him “were unsuccessful.” His body was transported to Dutch Harbor. MALAKOFF, Texas (AP) — Some school districts in the U.S. dropped plans for class pictures after widespread social media posts linked a billionaire with ties to Jeffrey Epstein to the photography giant Lifetouch, which on Friday called the claims “completely false.” The disruption to school picture plans in Texas and elsewhere began after online posts linked Lifetouch, which photographs millions of students each year, to the investment fund manager Apollo Global Management. Apollo’s former CEO is billionaire investor Leon Black, who met regularly with Epstein and was advised by Epstein on financial matters. Black led the company in 2019, when funds managed by Apollo bought Lifetouch’s parent company, Shutterfly. The $2.7 billion deal closed in September 2019 — a month after Epstein’s death by suicide behind bars as he awaited trial over allegations from federal prosecutors that he sexually abused and trafficked dozens of girls. New details have emerged surrounding the death of Catherine O’Hara after she passed away aged 71 on Friday, January 30.
