In today’s highly competitive carrier market, T-Mobile has taken an entirely new approach to customer attraction and retention. Through a growing physical presence at the country’s biggest entertainment and sporting venues, the company is expanding coverage and access beyond just mobile service — into the real world. T-Mobile’s Starlink satellite connectivity is now available for T-Mobile users who are traveling in Canada and New Zealand. T-Mobile users have previously had access to cellular connectivity through roaming agreements in Canada and New Zealand, and now T-Satellite connectivity is included. Canada satellite coverage is enabled through Rogers Satellite, and in New Zealand, satellite coverage is provided by One NZ. Both Rogers and One NZ have agreements with Starlink provider SpaceX. T-Mobile updated its website to mention satellite roaming last week, and the company says that support for other locations will be coming in the future. T-Mobile is working with global roaming partners and SpaceX to expand T-Satellite. T-Satellite is available to T-Mobile subscribers in the continental U.S., Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and parts of southern Alaska. It is also now available in Canada and New Zealand, with a coverage map available on the T-Mobile website. Deutsche Telekom, the German mobile provider that is also the majority stakeholder of T-Mobile in the US, is introducing an AI assistant into its phone line. The result of a partnership with the AI-audio company ElevenLabs, the feature is called Magenta AI Call Assistant. It will be available in Germany only, for now, and doesn’t require an app or a specific smartphone. The audible AI assistant will be baked into the phone call, offering services like live language translation to anyone who chooses to opt in. Magenta AI Call Assistant was announced at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona by ElevenLabs cofounder Mati Staniszewski and Abdu Mudesir, executive board member for product and technology at Deutsche Telekom. The Magenta assistant works when one person uses the wake words, “Hey Magenta,” during a call. T-Mobile today announced a new live translation feature that allows conversations to be translated in real-time when calling someone from any phone on the T-Mobile network. Live translation does not require any apps, and it is a free service that T-Mobile is offering in a beta capacity. T-Mobile users can sign up to test live translation on the T-Mobile website, with limited spots available. The feature works with more than 50 languages, and voice conversations are translated for each speaker “almost instantly.” T-Mobile says that users can speak how they normally do on calls, with live translation detecting the languages and voices that are speaking for a natural conversation. Live translation is built into the T-Mobile network, so it works with any phone on T-Mobile, from iPhones to flip phones. T-Mobile users can even call landlines and get translation capabilities because only one phone connected to the call has to be on T-Mobile for translation to work. Customers of the telecom giant Verizon began reporting cellular outages around the United States beginning around noon ET on Wednesday, saying they could not complete calls and did not have access to mobile data. Verizon broadband internet customers are also reporting issues. AT&T and T-Mobile customers also began reporting service outages in the same timeframe, however these reports may be linked to the Verizon outage. Verizon spokesperson Christina Moon Ashraf told WIRED in a statement, “We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly.” A T-Mobile spokesperson told WIRED in a statement that its service is “operating optimally” but added that T-Mobile “customers may not be able to reach someone with Verizon service at this time.” AT&T did not immediately respond to WIRED’s requests for comment.
