‘Marshals’ Star Mo Brings Plenty Seeks Justice for Nephew After ‘Murder’

‘Marshals’ Star Mo Brings Plenty Seeks Justice for Nephew After ‘Murder’

Mo Brings Plenty, an enrolled member of the Lakota Nations, was frustrated with the cultural misappropriation that he saw onscreen until Yellowstone came along. Thanks to a collaboration with prolific hit-maker Taylor Sheridan, not only did Plenty land a role in the mega-hit series as the right-hand man to Broken Rock Tribe chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), he was also hired behind the scenes as the show’s American Indian Affairs coordinator. And it’s a role he’s now continuing on the CBS Yellowstone spinoff Marshals, which follows Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes). Marshals has become a huge success for the network, repeating as the top series — network or streaming — two weeks in a row. Below, when chatting about Sunday’s fourth episode of the hit season (it’s already been renewed for season two), Plenty speaks with The Hollywood Reporter about both his onscreen role — as Mo (also the name of his character) — and the authentic input he gave behind the scenes in season one. He also opens up, for the first time in …

How Montana Ending Sets Up Season 2

How Montana Ending Sets Up Season 2

[The story contains major spoilers from the season one finale of The Madison.] The Madison has brought a new family to the Sheridan-verse. And after the conclusion of its first season, the story of the Clyburns is only just getting started. The grief drama from Yellowstone hit-maker Taylor Sheridan introduced viewers to the Clyburns when it plucked them out of their New York City comforts and plopped them on an uncomfortable yet transformative six-episode tour through their grief in Montana. The first season was given an unusual release, as it streamed in two parts over the last two weekends on Paramount+, like two mini-movies — which is how the story could be viewed. The second season has already been filmed and is in the can, awaiting an official release date from the streamer, and the cast, in conversations with The Hollywood Reporter here, makes it clear that Sheridan plans to continue. “They’re hoping for season three,” star Michelle Pfeiffer tells THR. No official announcements have been made, but Sheridan usually gets what he wants. The …

‘The Madison’ Is Not a ‘Yellowstone’ Show; Sheridan Plans Many Seasons

‘The Madison’ Is Not a ‘Yellowstone’ Show; Sheridan Plans Many Seasons

[This story contains a major spoiler from The Madison‘s first three episodes.] If you were expecting a Dutton to walk into a scene of The Madison, you aren’t the only one. “We kept waiting for a script to drop where a Dutton would come,” Patrick J. Adams, who plays the man who married into The Madison‘s starring Clyburn family, tells The Hollywood Reporter about reading his first scripts of the Taylor Sheridan series. “That was certainly a question because that’s how it was in the world. And when we asked about it, it was like, ‘No, no, no. This is an independent thing. This is its own thing.’” The Madison was first announced back in 2023, when Paramount Network also confirmed that TV’s No. 1 series, Yellowstone, was plotting its endgame. The Madison then had a working title of 2024 and was described as the first-ever Yellowstone sequel. The present-day story was said to take place after the events of Yellowstone, and would continue exploring the Dutton family dynasty “with new characters and locations, as well as some existing characters.” …

Train Station Haunts Kayce Dutton in ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff

Train Station Haunts Kayce Dutton in ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff

[This story contains spoilers from the second episode of Marshals and the series finale of Yellowstone.] How much of Yellowstone will loom over Marshals? The second episode of the new CBS series starring Luke Grimes gave viewers a good idea of how Marshals plans to walk that line. The sequel-spinoff that premiered March 1 sees Grimes reprising his role as Kayce Dutton, the surviving son to the late Dutton patriarch played by Kevin Costner on the megahit Paramount Network series. Yellowstone was the most popular show on television when it signed off in December 2024. So, when we recently asked showrunner Spencer Hudnut if he will be servicing the fans of Yellowstone or catering to a potentially new audience, he had an easy answer. “It would be really foolish to turn our back on that,” he told The Hollywood Reporter heading into the premiere, citing not only the flagship show’s uber-success but also the richness of the Dutton backstory. He also noted that Kayce is still living on the Montana land of the Dutton family’s ranch …

Taylor Sheridan Moves ‘Tulsa King’ Spinoff From New Orleans to Texas

Taylor Sheridan Moves ‘Tulsa King’ Spinoff From New Orleans to Texas

It appears Taylor Sheridan‘s Tulsa King spinoff, starring Samuel L. Jackson, won’t be taking place in New Orleans anymore. Paramount+ announced Tuesday that the spinoff, which was originally titled NOLA King and set in New Orleans, will now move to Texas and be called Frisco King. Sheridan has also been tapped to write all eight episodes of the first season. The spinoff will center on Jackson’s character, Russell Lee Washington Jr., who was first introduced in the third season of Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone. “We are honored to have Taylor Sheridan write the first season of Frisco King and bring to life Samuel L. Jackson’s iconic character,” Matt Thunell, president of Paramount Television Studios, wrote in a statement. “Having him pen all episodes of the season with his singular voice will be a treat for fans of Tulsa King and audiences around the world.” Produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, Frisco King is executive produced by Sheridan, Stallone and Jackson. David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Christina Alexandra Voros, …

‘Marshals’ Trailer Hints at Monica Dutton’s Fate in ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff

‘Marshals’ Trailer Hints at Monica Dutton’s Fate in ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff

Marshals has dropped a very revealing first look at the Yellowstone spinoff series centered around Luke Grimes‘ Kayce Dutton. The trailer out on Friday (below) confirms that tragedy awaits Kayce, who is the fan-favorite son of Kevin Costner’s late John Dutton from the flagship series. Yellowstone proper had given Kayce a happy ending after he sold the family’s Montana ranch and planned to stake out a new beginning with his own family, wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and son Tate (Brecken Merrill). But the first minutes of the trailer show that Kayce is now sleeping alone in his bed, has suffered a loss and is seen visiting a grave. Asbille, meanwhile, has been notably missing from the cast list for the series, which also brings back Yellowstone stars Gil Birmingham and actor/consultant Mo Brings Plenty reprising their roles.  The tragic turn of events hits hard after Kayce’s Yellowstone sendoff. “Yellowstone is gone, same for most of my family,” Kayce says at one point in the trailer. “As for vengeance, the day is still young.” The trailer reveals that …

Jacob Lofland Excited But Worried for Season 3

Jacob Lofland Excited But Worried for Season 3

[This story contains major spoilers from the Landman season two finale, “Tragedy and Flies.”] Jacob Lofland was thrilled with the season two ending to Landman. “I’m ready to get back with everybody on set,” he excitedly tells The Hollywood Reporter about returning to Texas to film the next era of the Paramount+ mega-hit oil drama. Production on the already renewed third season will pick up in the spring. So for now, Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris, is anxiously awaiting to see what writer and co-creator Taylor Sheridan will dream up for the Norris family. The second season ended on a hopeful note with Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) launching a new, independently run oil company called CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle and bringing his family and inner crew along for the hopefully lucrative ride. But the threat from cartel boss Gallino (Andy Garcia) hangs over the excitement — Tommy made a deal with the devil to launch CTT Oil, and if things go badly, Gallino will come after what Tommy loves most, which is his family. “The …

Michelle Pfeiffer.Series Gets First Teaser

Michelle Pfeiffer.Series Gets First Teaser

Viewers who tuned into the season two finale of Landman caught the first teaser trailer for another highly anticipated series in the Taylor Sheridan-verse on Sunday. The Madison, one of several Yellowstone offshoots, had revealed first-look photos earlier this week of the Michelle Pfeiffer-led starry cast, and now the series has shared a brief, 30-second glimpse (below) into the new Yellowstone-verse offering. The Madison premieres Saturday, March 14 with a six-episode season that centers around New York City family the Clyburns, who live in the Madison River valley of central Montana. It’s not yet known if they are connected the Duttons of Yellowstone proper. The Madison has been described as a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection” and a “profound love story channeled through a deeply personal family drama about resilience and transformation.” Paramount+ is also touting the spinoff as one of Sheridan’s “most intimate work to date,” revealing that the present-day set series will unfold “across two distinct worlds — the beautiful landscape of Montana and the vibrant energy of Manhattan — as it examines …

Billy Bob Thornton Calls Season 2 Tommy Ending an Omen

Billy Bob Thornton Calls Season 2 Tommy Ending an Omen

[This story contains MAJOR spoilers from the Landman season two finale, “Tragedy and Flies.”] Once again, Landman ended its season with a scene between Billy Bob Thornton and a coyote. This time, however, the future is looking very different for Thornton’s Tommy Norris and his family, now that he’s going off on his own to start CTT Oil Exploration (and Cattle), an oil company named after and led by his family, and inner crew, after making a dangerous deal with cartel boss Gallino (Andy Garcia). “I love the metaphor of the coyote,” Thornton tells The Hollywood Reporter about the ending to co-creators Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace‘s mega-hit Paramount+ oil drama. “In that final scene, Tommy was thinking, ‘I know you’re there. I know I’m gonna deal with you tomorrow. But tonight, I’m taking a vacation. This is my night.’ I think there was a little defiance and yet still uneasiness.” Thornton has been open about his long-term hopes for Landman. The West Texas-set oil drama also starring Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Sam …

Why Paramount+ Is Ending ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ With Season 5

Why Paramount+ Is Ending ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ With Season 5

Jeremy Renner’s Mayor of Kingstown reign is coming to a close. Was he impeached, or did the Taylor Sheridan Paramount+ show — the one that’s not Landman, Tulsa King, Lioness or Yellowstone spinoffs 1883 and 1923 — just reach its natural term limit? We’ve got a lot of questions following Monday’s season-five renewal, which came eight days after season four’s big finale. In honor of the coming fifth and final season of Mayor of Kingstown, here are five questions swirling around our brains: Why Is the Final Season Shorter? One thing that jumped off the press release is that Mayor of Kingstown season five will consist of eight episodes; seasons one through four had 10 episodes apiece. Is the 20 percent reduction a punishment for Sheridan jumping ship to NBCUniversal? Is it the budgetary realities set forth by a new regime? (Sheridan’s shows are famously expensive to produce, and Taylor’s old Paramount handler Chris McCarthy never batted an eyelash — that’s probably why his wagon has been hitched to Sheridan’s new deal.) Is the shorter …
