Counter terror police probe attack on Jewish charity’s former premises in northwest London | UK News

Counter terrorism police are leading an investigation into an arson attack on a building that used to belong to a Jewish charity. Officers were called to the incident at the former site of Jewish Futures in Hendon, northwest London at 10.31pm on Friday. Despite having moved from the site, on Hendon Way, signage in the front window still bears the charity’s name. The Metropolitan Police has said the incident is not being treated as terrorism and officers are keeping an open mind about the motive. Image: Images taken by Sky News show the charring left behind from the attack. Police said that nobody was hurt. The London Fire Brigade also attended the scene. “A man approached a row of shops with a plastic bag containing what was later found to be three bottles containing fluid,” the Met said. He placed the bag next to the building and lit the items in the bag. The bottles failed to fully ignite and the man fled the scene, the force added. There were no injuries and only minor …

France prepares for terror attack hitting London amid Donald Trump Iran war tensions

France is preparing for a terror strike targeting London. French diplomats in the capital have carried out a “crisis management” exercise on responding to a major incident in the city. They have sought to strengthen their emergency response plans as tensions run high over Donald Trump’s Iran war. The Met Police recently told how MI5 and counter-terror police have disrupted more than 20 Iranian state-backed terror plots in the past year, including alleged assassination attempts targeting individuals in London. Security at a London-based dissident Iranian TV station suspected of being targeted in a Tehran terror plot (PA) The Standard understands that the French crisis response blueprint aims to cover all scenarios, including a terror attack affecting French citizens in London. If this happened, diplomats at France’s Embassy in Knightsbridge would be guided by the French government’s Centre de Crise et Soutien (CDCS – Crisis and Support Centre) based in Paris. Under plans to deal with a very challenging incident, or if it affected a large number of French citizens, CDCS agents could be flown over …

Statue of Liberty terror attack warning ahead of USA 250 celebrations | US | News

The Statue of Liberty could become the target of a terrorist attack, Burgum warned (Image: Getty) Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum issued a stark warning about a possible terrorist attack on the Statue of Liberty as the United States prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of its independence. Speaking at a press conference in New York, Burgum praised the U.S. Park Police, the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency, highlighting their crucial role throughout American history. While discussing their work safeguarding the Statue of Liberty – amongst America’s most recognisable landmarks – he observed it features prominently in imagery on the majority of terrorist recruitment websites, cautioning that it could one day become the target of an assault. “The Statue of Liberty, by the way, is the most featured image on terrorist recruiting sites,” Burgum said. “It’s the thing that, if someone could wreck our 250th anniversary…” He continued by explaining that the U.S. Park Police vets more than 4 million visitors to the monument annually before they embark on the renowned ferry crossing …

British man in court for leading fighters in Somalia-based Islamist terror group | UK News

A British man has appeared in court accused of fighting as a platoon leader for Somalia-based Islamist terrorist group Al Shabaab. Jermaine Grant, 43, is charged with directing Al Shabaab, attending commando training camps in the southern port city of Kismayu, in Somalia, and possession of an AK47 assault rifle for terrorist purposes during battles in the east African country. British prosecutors said the charges relate to Grant’s alleged involvement with the armed group, which has been linked to al Qaeda, in 2008 and 2009. “These are serious charges and come as the result of a long-running investigation,” acting commander Kris Wright, acting commander of Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) London said. “This case shows we will always pursue anyone suspected of being involved in terrorist activity, no matter where in the world or how long ago it is alleged to have taken place.” Grant appeared in the dock at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, wearing a yellow and green jumpsuit and flanked by two police officers. He spoke to confirm his name and date of …

How games capture the awe and terror of cosmic isolation | Games

Last week’s launch of the Artemis II space mission was a stunning spectacle, the 17-storey-high rockets erupting into cacophonous life before wrenching the craft through the Earth’s atmosphere. But the images that have come since hold just as much impact: the tiny Orion craft and its four-person crew drifting silently through space, further and further from home. In his autobiography, the Apollo astronaut Michael Collins described this feeling perfectly. Left in the command module as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin touched down on the lunar surface, he wrote: “I am alone now, truly alone, and absolutely isolated from any known life. I am it. If a count were taken, the score would be three billion plus two over on the other side of the moon, and one plus God knows what on this side.” Although most science-fiction video games are set in distant galaxies or far-off futures where space travel has become routine, a few have attempted to explore this sense of solitude and vulnerability. As a Nasa-obsessed child in the 1980s, I loved the …

‘New Iranian Terror Group’ Claims Responsibility For Attacks Across Europe

‘New Iranian Terror Group’ Claims Responsibility For Attacks Across Europe

A group that did not exist online or anywhere else before March 9, 2026, has suddenly claimed responsibility for a string of low-tech arson and attempted bombings at synagogues and US banks across Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and the UK. Police in Paris at the scene of the thwarted attack on the offices of Bank of America © Nathan Laine/Bloomberg Mainstream outlets like FT and counter-terrorism analysts are rushing to label Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia (HAYI, or “Ashab al-Yamin”) as an Iranian intelligence “hybrid warfare” front. But a closer look raises serious red flags: the group’s amateurish execution, suspiciously perfect timing amid the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, and a pattern that seems tailor-made to stoke the antisemitism narrative and justify further crackdowns on Tehran and its proxies. The first claim surfaced on March 9 via Telegram channels tied to Iraqi pro-Iranian militias. Two days later, HAYI took credit for firebombing a synagogue in Liège, Belgium. Subsequent claims included attacks on a Rotterdam synagogue (March 13), a Jewish school in Amsterdam (March 14), a site linked to Bank of …

U.S. Alerts Goldman Sachs Paris After Iranian Group Threatens Terror Bombing

U.S. Alerts Goldman Sachs Paris After Iranian Group Threatens Terror Bombing

Five days after French authorities foiled a terror plot targeting Bank of America’s Paris headquarters, the threat environment facing U.S. financial institutions in the French capital appears to be worsening. New reporting from Le Parisien says Goldman Sachs’ Paris headquarters was placed under police surveillance on Wednesday night following threats allegedly linked to Iranian terror networks.  Le Parisien outlines the rationale behind the heightened security posture: It’s 1:30 a.m. when the phone rings, shattering the night’s calm. A security guard on duty at the American bank receives a call from his head of security, based in London. According to our information, she informs him that she has received an email from the American authorities, advising him to “extend his vigilance” at the bank. The reason? “An Iranian group is threatening to attack the buildings with explosive devices,” explains a source close to the matter. By Thursday morning, however, the Paris prosecutor’s office said that “no suspicious elements were found at the scene” following surveillance operations in and around Goldman’s building at 85 Avenue Marceau in …

‘Strategy of ecological terror. Desalination as a weapon of war’ in the Middle East

Eve Irvine is pleased to welcome Dr. Michael Christopher Low, Associate Professor of History and Director of the Middle East Center at the University of Utah. As a historian of infrastructure and environmental systems in the Middle East, his work examines how seemingly technical systems, like desalination, become deeply embedded in geopolitical strategy, including in wartime. In his forthcoming book “Saltwater Kingdoms”, he argues that water infrastructure in the Gulf is not merely a tool of survival, but a central axis of political leverage and vulnerability. French Police Foil Overnight Terror Plot: Suspect Caught Trying To Ignite Bomb Outside BofA Headquarters In Paris

French anti-terrorism authorities thwarted an attempted attack early Saturday morning when police arrested a suspect as he tried to ignite an explosive device directly in front of the Bank of America headquarters in Paris.  The incident unfolded around 3:25-3:30 a.m. when officers from the Paris police’s BAC (Brigade Anti-Criminalité) unit, already on heightened patrol near the building due to prior threats, spotted the individual attempting to set fire to the device with a lighter. The device consisted of a 5-liter transparent jerrycan filled with an unidentified flammable liquid (reportedly a hydrocarbon such as gasoline) attached to a mortar-style tube or large firecracker containing approximately 650 grams of explosive powder. No detonation occurred, and there were no injuries or damage. A second individual, believed to have been acting as a lookout, fled the scene on foot. The arrested suspect, a 17-year-old minor born in Senegal and residing in a Paris suburb, was taken into custody. During initial questioning, he reportedly claimed he had been dropped off at the location by a driver and was recruited via …

Schoolboy ‘groomed’ online by Russian after joining far-right group jailed for terror offences | UK News

A 16-year-old boy who joined a banned far-right group and researched a synagogue has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for a series of terror offences. The teenager, who cannot be named because of his age, was found guilty last month of possession of terrorist documents, dissemination of terrorist documents and membership of a proscribed terrorist organisation. But the jury at Leeds Crown Court failed to reach a verdict on whether he was planning a terror attack. The Crown Prosecution Service said in court it would not seek a retrial on this charge. In February 2025, the then 15-year-old boy was arrested at his father’s home in a village in Northumberland, where police found several journal entries about pupils at his school. He wrote “I swear to God I just hate my f***ing school”, and “I want to do horrible things to the people in my school. Some of them should be shot”, the court heard.
