UK lender Barclays and supermarket Tesco have launched a joint cashback offer as Britons face the highest diesel prices since the start of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022. The initiative comes amid soaring fuel prices in part caused by the unresolved conflict in the Middle East. The US and Israel have carried out joint strikes on several key Iranian sites since February 28. Iran retaliated by striking sites across the Middle East and closing the critical Strait of Hormuz trade route through which 20% of global oil is traded. The US and Iran have agreed on a short-term ceasefire, but the closure of the strait remains. The US has also imposed a blockade on Irainian ports in the strait in a bid to strangle the Iranian economy, force the closure to be lifted and pressure long-term peace negotiations. Fuel prices flatlined over the weekend for drivers across the country, the Mirror reports. Figures from motoring group the RAC found national average for unleaded stood at 157.17p a litre on Monday, with diesel 189.23p. Both …

According to the Cleve Hill solar website the now operational site can provide “affordable and clean electricity” to power 102,000 homes with 550,000 solar panels. However, the power generated has been purchased in corporate agreements, with supermarket firm Tesco buying 65% and the remaining 35% going to the oil giant Shell. With a 373 megawatt (MW) capacity Cleve Hill produces less energy than the average coal power station, which see output of around 500MW. As a nationally significant infrastructure project, permission to build the solar farm was granted by the Government, not Swale Borough Council (SBC). The local authority later refused permission for the massive lithium Battery Energy …

From April 2026, the statutory minimum wage will increase to £12.71. But the Real Living Wage, which is determined by the Living Wage Foundation, a charitable organisation, is higher than that, and some employers opt to pay that as a minimum rate to their staff. Scientists are analysing shopping data to identify early signs of 10 different types of cancer (Image: Getty ) BBC Morning Live’s resident GP, Dr Oscar Duke, has revealed the latest findings from a study designed to potentially help people spot early warning signs of cancer through their purchasing patterns. The medical expert discussed the recent developments during today’s programme (February 11), presented by Neil Jones and Helen Skelton. Dr Oscar explored the research, spearheaded by Imperial College, now in its second phase, to establish whether loyalty card information from retailers such as Boots and Tesco could be used to identify potential “cancer red flags”. Scientists suggest that consumer behaviour recorded in loyalty card data, including that from Boots and Tesco, may help detect cancer earlier. The research involves nearly 3,000 participants to determine whether purchasing patterns can serve as an early warning for 10 different forms of cancer. Previous work by the same team found that an increase in purchasing painkillers and indigestion remedies could suggest early indicators of ovarian cancer. The scientists will now …
