It’s hard to believe it’s been a decade since Rihanna first made fashion history at the Met Gala. While she had previously attended the ultra-exclusive event, it was the yellow, fur-trimmed embroidered gown with a lengthy train by designer Guo Pei, that she wore for “China: Through the Looking Glass” in 2015 that instantly secured her spot on best dressed-lists the world over. “I can’t really walk in it without any help—but it’s so worth it. I love this dress so much! It’s Chinese couture and it’s made by Guo Pei. It’s handmade by one Chinese woman and it took her two years to make. The Federal Communications Commission is using the presence of “controversial gender identity issues” in children’s television programming as a pretense for questioning how TV ratings are developed and enforced, according to a notice published Wednesday by the federal agency. The notice generally assesses TV ratings, but specifically points out that these industry guidelines have rated shows featuring “transgender and gender non-binary programming” as appropriate for children. It argues that parents aren’t provided this information, “thereby undermining the ability of parents to make informed choices for their families.” In the document, the FCC poses a series of open-ended questions about TV ratings development, including whether the board responsible for the guidelines is “sufficiently balanced” with viewpoints outside of the entertainment industry and if faith-based organizations should be represented in the body. “What more could the board do to include family-oriented perspectives — which are not well represented in the media industry — in its ratings process?” the notice asks. Pixar‘s chief creative officer Pete Docter is explaining why the Disney-owned company settled on cutting LGBTQ themes from their 2025 film Elio. In a new interview with the Wall Street Journal, Docter explained that Pixar did not want their film to force parents to have conversations they weren’t ready to discuss with their children. “We’re making a movie, not hundreds of millions of dollars of therapy,” he said. The Hollywood Reporter previously reported on the lengthy reworking of Elio, which spotlights the story of a lonely boy who is beamed into outer spake after being mistaken as the leader of Earth. The film was originally slated to be directed by Adrian Molina, with the main character of Elio initially being portrayed a queer-coded. After an early screening in the summer of 2023 in Arizona, where viewers reportedly said they liked the movie but no one raised their hand when asked if they’d see it in a movie theater, shifts followed.
