Sacked Morrisons worker Sean Egan says ‘they threw me under the bus’ | UK | News

Sean Egan has claimed the company threw him under the bus ‘for doing the right thing’ (Image: -) A long-serving Morrisons employee, dismissed after confronting a violent shoplifter, has spoken out against the supermarket giant. Sean Egan has claimed the company threw him under the bus “for doing the right thing” after being sacked following 29 years of loyal service. The 46 year old became embroiled in a confrontation with career criminal Daniel Kendall, who spat in his face and turned aggressive inside the store in Aldridge, West Midlands. Kendall, who has more than 100 offences to his name, managed to flee with two bottles of Jack Daniel’s despite Mr Egan’s best efforts in December. Mr Egan, a married father from Wolverhampton, West Midlands, had recognised Kendall as a prolific shoplifter who had previously targeted the same store. Speaking today, Mr Egan said: “I dedicated my whole life to Morrisons, but they did not even take my 29 years of service into account and just threw me under the bus for standing up for what …

Police later found and arrested the suspected arsonist outside OpenAI’s headquarters in San Francisco’s Mission District, booking him on charges including arson and attempted murder, the San Francisco Standard reported. On top of the firebomb, housekeepers at the hotel Morena-Gama stayed at found a 9mm pistol and a laptop. When police took him into custody, they reportedly found a three-part manifesto in his pockets warning of the existential threat AI poses to humanity, per the Standard. Benjamin Wood: ‘John Fowles’s The Magus was so frustrating I threw it at the wall’ | Books

My earliest reading memoryWhen I was eight, my mother bought me Stanley Bagshaw and the Short-sighted Football Trainer by Bob Wilson. I grew up thinking he was the same Bob Wilson who played in goal for Arsenal and presented sport on ITV. That wasn’t true, but it has never dampened my appreciation of this brilliant rhyming picture book, which ought to be reissued to inspire more kids to read. My sons adore it. My favourite book growing upThe Red Pony by John Steinbeck had a profound effect on me in secondary school. I was amazed by how vividly a writer could evoke a landscape in words. It was also the first novel that moved me to tears, and stories that can do that will always stay dear to me. The book that made me want to be a writerAround the age of 20, I had a bout of illness that left me bed-bound for a few weeks. I was feeling pretty low. But it was during this time that I read Mr Vertigo and In the Country of Last Things …

Dad who threw ‘farewell’ party before cancer surgery now running London Marathon

Get the Well Enough newsletter with Harry Bullmore for tips on living a healthier, happier and longer life Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore A father who faced a testicular cancer diagnosis with remarkable humour and resilience is now preparing to run the London Marathon, urging men across the country to prioritise their health. Patrick Frank, 40, originally from Washington, DC, but now residing in Fulham, west London, famously threw a “farewell to righty” party before his surgery and later completed a penis-shaped run to raise awareness. Patrick, a video agency founder, first noticed his right testicle felt unusually hard in early 2021. Following a check-up and subsequent tests, he received the news that he had a tumour requiring surgical removal. Determined to maintain a positive outlook, he hosted a “farewell to righty” Zoom party the night before his operation that same year. During the virtual gathering, he shared a video featuring illustrations by a friend, depicting his testicle’s journey through the years, set to …

I’ve tested dozens of power stations – this one handled at everything I threw at it

I’ve tested dozens of power stations – this one handled at everything I threw at it

Bluetti AC180 portable power station ZDNET’s key takeaways The Bluetti AC180 is on sale on Amazon for $453 right now. Its build provides simple functionality that delivers exceptional power performance. It’s fairly heavy given its capacity, weighing in at 37 pounds. You can divide power stations into three broad categories — there are the tiny, highly portable units, huge units that roll about on wheels, and then in between, you have the bulky — but still portable — units you can lug about, just not too far. I quite like this intermediate category because I can throw one in the back of the car or truck when I go camping or on photo/video/drone trips, and it’ll provide all the power I need for a few days. Also: The Jackery Explorer 1000 V2 is one of the best entry-level portable power stations Recently, I used and abused one such power station: the Bluetti AC180, and this unit ticks all the boxes for what I want from a device that can keep me going when off-grid for …

The man tipped the kitten from the box into the water from Twickenham bridge (Image: Getty) A father who drunkenly threw his daughter’s pet kittens into the River Thames, declaring “let them die”, has been spared jail. Andrew Shephard was helping his daughter rehome the three young cats when he tipped them from a box into the water from Twickenham bridge, in south-west London, last November. As he did, he could be heard shouting “let them die” and “I want them to die”, Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court heard on Tuesday. JPs were told the 59-year-old – who previously pleaded guilty to three counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal – had said he did not know “what came over me”.  Read more: 15 hospital staff members arrested over assault, neglect and rape allegations Read more: UK park shut down after ‘girl sexually assaulted’ as teen boy arrested During his sentencing hearing, prosecutor Manisha Kukadia told the court that the police were called to “reports of a male throwing cats into the River Thames”. Hudson Williams Threw the Best New York Fashion Week Party (Possibly Ever)

Hudson Williams Threw the Best New York Fashion Week Party (Possibly Ever)

To anyone with eyes and ears on the ground at New York Fashion Week (and the internet), it’s clear that Hudson Williams is the most famous man in the world right now. Ever since word hit the TL earlier this week that the Heated Rivalry star was set to co-host a Lunar New Year party with Bridgerton’s Yerin Ha, the question on everyone’s lips has been: How does one secure the invite? By some miraculous force of nature (a.k.a. the lovely folks at Gold House, the AAPI-centered nonprofit that put on the event with Williams and Ha, alongside designers Prabal Gurung, Kim Shui, and Bach Mai), I did secure the invite. So come Thursday night, down I went to Chinese Tuxedo, prepared for exactly what was advertised: a night of karaoke and mahjong and dancing and a Bridgerton portrait studio. Nina Westervelt/WWD/Getty Images As far as I could tell, the karaoke and mahjong and portrait studio—though lovely—were not anyone’s primary concern. The real draw of the evening was Williams—as I waited in line at the …

Grammys 2026: An Industry Disruptor Threw a Great Industry Party

Grammys 2026: An Industry Disruptor Threw a Great Industry Party

This time last year in Los Angeles, the city was still beset by PTSD from the 2025 winter wildfires, and the mood around the Grammys was naturally somewhat somber and restrained. This year, however, the vibes were back up in full effect. Clive Davis’s long-running Saturday gala kicked off with a message from Barack Obama and a tribute to Ozzy Osborne by MGK and Jelly Roll, which is an insane sentence to be able to type. But it seemed like the entire music industry was outside during Grammy weekend—the Most Delightfully Random Sighting award goes to onetime Bad Boy rapper Shyne, who turned up to a DJ set from beloved breakout Nigerian artist Odeal at Opulence, music executive Lenny S’s annual post-show party. After a pretty solid telecast featuring mostly respectable wins, there was a lot to discuss: Bad Bunny’s historic Album of the Year win. Kendrick Lamar becoming the new title holder for rapper with the most wins. Lauryn Hill leading an emotional D’Angelo tribute. Cher. But later that night, all Larry Jackson wanted …

The 36-year-old allegedly left his dad, 65, dead and his mum with severe stab wounds. He then reportedly climbed to the top of the property and jumped off. National Police have said the events occurred at around 8.50am local time, when a call was received about the death of two men. It was also reported that a woman, the wife and mother of the deceased, respectively, had been taken to a hospital in serious condition. Police have since launched an investigation into what happened, with all evidence currently pointing towards the couple having been attacked by their son for reasons that remain unknown.  The reported parricide occurred in a property near Boliches Avenue in Fuengirola, a popular expat city and family-friendly resort town on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
