The Black Ops star, 40, has revealed that she had to leave the show early after “throwing up” on set while sitting with Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty. Ikumelo proved herself to be a worthy competitor on the Prime Video series – which challenges 10 comedians to last six hours in a room without smiling or giggling, while trying to make one another laugh. The comic lasted four episodes before becoming the first to chuckle her way out of the competition. However, while eliminated stars are invited to sit with hosts Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty in the control room, Carr told viewers that Ikumelo wasn’t “feeling well” and so had to leave the control room. …

Suspect Arrested For Allegedly Throwing Molotov Cocktail at Sam Altman’s Home

San Francisco police arrested an individual early on Friday morning for allegedly attacking the home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and making threats outside of the company’s headquarters, a spokesperson confirmed to WIRED. OpenAI’s corporate security team sent a note to employees about the incident on Friday. “At approximately 3:45am PT, an unidentified individual approached Sam’s residence and threw an incendiary device toward the property. The device landed nearby and extinguished. There were no injuries and only minimal damage was reported,” the message to staff reads. “Shortly afterward, an individual matching the suspect’s description was contacted by security outside MB1,” the message continues, referring to OpenAI’s headquarters in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood. “This person made threatening statements about the building.” OpenAI’s corporate security team told staff that it is cooperating with law enforcement to assist with an investigation, and that employees may notice an increased police and security presence around the office on Friday. The security team said that the company’s offices remain open, but employees were advised to “not let anyone tailgate into …

OpenAI is throwing everything into building a fully automated researcher

OpenAI is throwing everything into building a fully automated researcher

“I think it’s going to be a long time before we can really be like, okay, this problem is solved,” he says. “Until you can really trust the systems, you definitely want to have restrictions in place.” Pachocki thinks that very powerful models should be deployed in sandboxes, cut off from anything they could break or use to cause harm.  AI tools have already been used to come up with novel cyberattacks. Some worry that they will be used to design synthetic pathogens that could be used as bioweapons. You can insert any number of evil-scientist scare stories here. “I definitely think there are worrying scenarios that we can imagine,” says Pachocki.  “It’s going to be a very weird thing. It’s extremely concentrated power that’s in some ways unprecedented,” says Pachocki. “Imagine you get to a world where you have a data center that can do all the work that OpenAI or Google can do. Things that in the past required large human organizations would now be done by a couple of people.” “I think …

The Iran War Is Throwing Global Shipping Into Chaos

The Iran War Is Throwing Global Shipping Into Chaos

After years of chaos in the global supply chain, Ryan Petersen, CEO of the logistics company Flexport, felt 2026 might offer some modicum of order. The pandemic was firmly in the rearview mirror. Red Sea shipping channels—which had been closed due to the Gaza crisis—were finally opening. The Supreme Court struck down many of Donald Trump’s tariffs, and some Flexport customers were hoping for refunds. Petersen could finally concentrate on what he had identified as the company’s major push of the year—embracing the latest AI technologies to make Flexport run more efficiently. Then the United States and Israel went to war with Iran. Chaos is back, and it’s going to cost us all. I spoke with Petersen this week to get a sense of how bad things are in the global supply chain—and what this means for Flexport’s business. While the Iran war will wreak havoc on Flexport’s customers, it’s also an opportunity for the company to prove its worth. After all, its business is built on routing and tracking goods with cloud technology, improvising …

The US actor, 49, stars in Apple TV’s new adaptation of Araminta Hall’s murder mystery novel Imperfect Women, along with Elisabeth Moss and Kate Mara. It follows three old college friends Eleanor (Washington), Nancy (Mara) and Mary (Moss), whose very different lives are disrupted by a devastating crime that surfaces buried secrets and unspoken rivalries. In an interview with The Guardian, the Scandal star said the offering of complex female roles was “better” than it once was and suggested this was mostly because “so many of us have become producers”. Washington is a producer on Imperfect Women through her company, Simpson Street, which also worked on the 2020 Emmy-nominated mini-series Little Fires Everywhere. Meanwhile, Reece Witherspoon, with …

Bosses throwing whiteboard dusters: Why some workers closed the door on SME employers

Bosses throwing whiteboard dusters: Why some workers closed the door on SME employers

“The boss would just gaslight you into thinking you’re not doing enough. And they will use that as an excuse not to remunerate you fairly or give a fair increment,” said the 29-year-old. In fact, Adrian knew of an employee at an SME where he used to work who got promoted and handed more responsibilities, but was severely underpaid by market standards. When grievances arise, many find themselves having no proper channel – if any at all – to give their feedback. Mr Royston Loh, 37, who worked in an SME dealing with semiconductors five years ago as an employee engagement executive, said that while his former company had an HR manager, who was not a boss, the manager was “far too young and inexperienced”. This coupled with the company’s lack of proper systems, guidelines and processes, especially in terms of resolving any work conflicts or HR issues made it challenging, he said. “Each issue that came up was handled differently than another based on the whim of the CEO,” said Mr Loh. “It became …

Gordon Ramsay shares admission 28 years after throwing critic out of restaurant

Get the latest entertainment news, reviews and star-studded interviews with our Independent Culture email Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Gordon Ramsay has reflected on throwing prolific critic AA Gill out of his restaurant after receiving a bad review in the late Nineties. The chef infamously ejected Gill, who died in 2016, from the Chelsea establishment The Gordon Ramsay, while Gill was out dining with Dame Joan Collins in October 1998. At the time, the critic worked for The Sunday Times, and Ramsay was angry that the writer had described him as “a failed sportsman who acts like an 11-year-old” in a review of Ramsay’s previous restaurant, Aubergine. He waited until Gill had ordered before asking him to leave. Ramsay reflected on the incident in a new Netflix documentary while discussing his treatment by the media, admitting: “I know it was wrong.” However, he branded the late Gill a “knobhead” for having “a brutal personal vendetta” against him. “Critics are important, …

Man Sentenced to 4 Years in Prison for Throwing Molotov Cocktail During LA Immigration Protest

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 23-year-old man was sentenced to four years in federal prison after he admitted throwing a Molotov cocktail at Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies during protests against immigration raids across the region last spring. Emiliano Garduno Galvez, a Mexican national who authorities say is in the U.S. illegally, pleaded guilty in October to possessing an unregistered destructive device and civil disorder connected to his actions June 7 in Paramount, a city near LA. He was sentenced on Friday. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a large protest that day at which demonstrators were throwing rocks and other items outside a Home Depot where U.S. Border Patrol agents had gathered. According to the plea agreement obtained by the Los Angeles Times, Galvez admitted that he went behind a wall, lit the Molotov cocktail and then hurled it toward where he had seen the deputies. The incendiary device landed in a grassy area near the foot of a protester and about 15 feet (4.5 meters) from the deputies, according to the plea agreement. Galvez said …
