European, African oil market gets tighter as Asia buys more

LONDON, March 30 : The European and African oil market is showing more signs of tightness with some crude differentials hitting record highs as peak summer demand nears and Asia seeks supplies to fill shortages caused by Iran’s blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, now into its fifth week.  The Iran war has forced the shutdown of at least 10 million barrels per day of oil from the Middle East due to Iran’s effective closure of the strait, and attacks on Iranian and other Middle East Gulf nations’ energy infrastructure.  That production volume represents at least 10 per cent of daily global oil consumption. Asia has been most affected by oil and gas disruptions, as it is the world’s largest oil-importing continent and relies on supplies from the Middle East. The Middle East Dubai oil benchmark hit an all-time high of $169.75 on March 23, breaking Brent futures’ previous record of $147.50 set in 2008 to become the most expensive oil benchmark ever.  In an example of tightening markets, North Sea Forties crude surged to …

The Marshall Bromley 450 takes the big, stage-bred idea of the previously released Bromley 750 and shaves it down without sanding off the vibe. It’s still unmistakably Marshall in grille-fronted black and brass. But where the $1,299 750 arrived as a rolling party rig, the $799 450 feels like the smarter everyday Bluetooth speaker capable of turning an intimate gathering up to 11. It’s a tighter footprint, lower asking price, and slightly more plausible to get from living room to pulsing patio. See It The 450 keeps pro-leaning bits intact, building around a six-driver array featuring dual 6.5-inch woofers, four 2-inch full-range drivers, and a pair of 8-inch passive radiators, all wrapped in a water-based PU leather wrapped enclosure with TPU corner caps and fed by Class D amplification. And the 42Hz – 20kHz response is tuned for what Marshall values most: fast, punchy bass, …

The House Article | Labour MPs Push For Tighter Controls On Holiday Lets

Illustration by Tracy Worrall 9 min read29 min Short-term holiday lets are a major part of Britain’s tourism industry – but many Labour MPs want tighter controls on their number. Will the government listen? Noah Vickers reports Across the world, politicians are getting tough on short-term holiday lets. Barcelona plans to ban all self-catering rentals from 2028, while in New York it is already illegal to list your property online unless you are staying with your guest throughout their visit. Concerns about holiday lets have grown as their popularity – and importance to tourism economies – has soared. Platforms like Airbnb, Vrbo and Booking.com have been variously blamed for hoovering up housing supply, hollowing out communities and driving up prices among the few homes that remain. Neighbours, meanwhile, complain about holiday lets being used as party houses, pop-up brothels or drug dens. While still in opposition, Labour promised to establish a “licensing system” for holiday lets, though details of how it would work were never fleshed out. In a 2022 speech, …

Chrome takes on AI browsers with tighter Gemini integration, agentic features for autonomous tasks

2025 was the year when a swarm of AI browsers from companies like OpenAI, Perplexity, Opera, and The Browser Company launched with an aim to replace Chrome with features like sidebar assistants and automated tasks. Now, Google is flexing its own AI muscles by adding similar features to Chrome, the world’s largest browser by market share. While Google had introduced Gemini to Chrome last September, the assistant lived in a floating window. With this update, the company will put its AI helper into a persistent sidebar, so you can ask questions about the current website or other open tabs. One interesting feature Google demoed to press ahead of today’s launch involved multiple tabs. When you open different tabs from a single webpage, the Gemini sidebar understands them as a context group. This is helpful when you are comparing prices or different products you’re considering purchasing.
