Trump touted his judges. Now, they’re standing up on immigration

After Operation Metro Surge, in which an estimated 3,000 federal immigration agents were deployed throughout Minnesota from December to February, resulting in over 3,700 arrests and the shooting deaths of protesters Renee Good and Alex Pretti, the media and political class grew bored and moved on. Donald Trump’s mass deportation machine did not.  On April 15 NBC News reported that approximately 60,000 people are currently being held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facilities. The administration’s stated goal is to remove 3,000 people a day from the country, with an annual target of over one million deportations. As Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar and acting ICE direction, has explained, deportees will be put in dozens of warehouses all over the country to eventually be shipped out like Amazon Prime packages. By design, the deportation process moves so fast that detainees do not have time to obtain meaningful legal representation — a violation of their constitutional, civil and human rights. Other migrants have been sent to countries that routinely violate human rights such as El Salvador, …

Injectable peptides are touted online as a ‘glow up potion’. Here’s why experts warn against unapproved use | Natasha May

Injectable peptides are touted online as a ‘glow up potion’. Here’s why experts warn against unapproved use | Natasha May

Influencers are telling their audiences that injectable peptides are the “glow up potion” they need for everything from clearing up hormonal acne, thickening hair, relieving back pain and even treating chronic UTIs. These peptides, intended for research purposes (as some influencers do point out) and not approved for human use, are being increasingly sold through unregulated online channels. Despite experts warning against the potential dangers of these highly variable substances, claims of supposed benefits have been amplified by the US health secretary, Robert F Kennedy Jr, who recently said that he will approve the sale of “about 14” injectable peptide drugs to the public. What should we make of all the hype? Firstly, what are peptides? Peptides are short combinations of amino acids that occur naturally but can also be manufactured. They either act as “something that our body uses” (like collagen peptides for example) or they’re cell signalling like hormones that “tell our body to do really important things,” Dr Michael Bonning from the Australian Medical Association says. Many will be familiar with the …

FDA approves Wellcovorin for ultra-rare disease. The Trump admin touted it as a treatment for autism

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday granted expanded approval to Wellcovorin for the ultra-rare disease cerebral folate deficiency (CFD) in both children and adults, the same prescription drug that the Trump administration touted from the Oval Office as a potential treatment for symptoms of autism last year. Senior administration officials announced that Wellcovorin,… Source link

Trump touted support for gun rights but has defended restrictions in court

WASHINGTON — Soon after President Donald Trump took office last year, he issued an executive order proclaiming his steadfast support for the right to bear arms, but a year later, gun rights advocates say the administration has failed to live up to his promises. Even as the administration has challenged some state firearms laws, it is also defending long-standing federal gun restrictions in court, including one being considered by the Supreme Court on Monday. That case concerns whether users of illegal drugs can be barred from possessing guns. Gun rights advocates who are challenging those laws say they are frustrated to see the Trump administration defending the restrictions. “The Trump administration has been very good on gun rights issues that are coming up in the states. The same isn’t true at the federal level,” said Cody Wisniewski, president of the Firearms Policy Coalition Action Foundation. While the federal government generally has a duty to defend federal law, there have historically been exceptions when the Justice Department concludes a particular measure is unconstitutional. Wisniewski expressed some …

State of the Union 2026 recap: Trump touted economic gains

Spanberger: ‘We did not hear truth from our president’ Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger delivers the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address in Williamsburg, Virginia, U.S., Feb. 24, 2026. Steve Helber | Via Reuters Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger, in giving the Democratic response to the State of the Union address, said Trump “did what he always does: he lied, he scapegoated, and he distracted, and he offered no real solutions to our nation’s pressing challenges, many of which he is actively making worse.” “We did not hear truth from our president,” Spanberger said, speaking from Williamsburg, Va. She said that Trump, despite his promises, had made life less affordable for Americans with his tariff policies, and by “cutting food programs for hungry kids.” Spanberger also criticized Trump’s immigration enforcement policies, which have led to the arrest and detainment of U.S. Citizens and “people who aspire to be Americans.” “They have ripped nursing mothers away from their babies,” she said. And “over the last year, through DOGE mass firings and the appointment …
