Live tracker of major mishaps

Live tracker of major mishaps

Four stories cited in Press Gazette round-up of AI going wrong in news publications AI is being widely used in journalism and can lead to reputation-killing scandals and mistakes if not monitored closely. Here Press Gazette rounds up some of the main examples of where AI has gone wrong. The Mississippi Free Press has admitted to being the latest news outlet caught out by publishing an AI column written by a fake author. The non-profit outlet said the journalist did not seem suspicious until they submitted an invoice that did not match their name. This was the same way that purported freelance journalist Margaux Blanchard was caught out by Wired last year. There have been numerous similar cases of AI work mistakenly published by major news outlets in the past year as the technology grows more sophisticated. Sometimes the ‘journalists’ are caught out pre-publication. There have also been examples of real writers getting caught out using AI in unsanctioned ways. Australian news website Crikey took down a series of articles because a writer had used …

Watch out, Whoop: I’d switch to Google’s new Fitbit tracker if these features are true

Watch out, Whoop: I’d switch to Google’s new Fitbit tracker if these features are true

The Whoop is one of the devices that Google’s rumored screenless health tracker would compete with. Nina Raemont/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways  Google is poised to unveil a Whoop dupe soon.  Steph Curry teased a screenless health band on his Instagram.  Here’s what I’d like to see from a Google fitness band.  Could Google’s latest fitness tracker return to its original, screenless Fitbit form? All signs say yes. Google has teased a screenless, Whoop-adjacent health tracker with the help of basketball star Steph Curry. A recent Instagram post from Curry shows him wearing a screenless, fabric band around his wrist, and the accompanying caption promotes “a new relationship with your health.”  There are scant confirmed details on this next device, but rumors suggest the band will be called “Fitbit Air.”  Also: I replaced my Whoop with a rival fitness band that has no monthly fees – and it’s nearly as good Why a screenless fitness band? And why now? Google’s new device could be taking interest away from …

I retested Apple AirTags after 5 years – how they compare to Bluetooth tracker rivals

I retested Apple AirTags after 5 years – how they compare to Bluetooth tracker rivals

Adrian Kingsley-Hughes/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways Apple AirTags remain the most reliable and precise tracking option. Third-party tags work well for both iOS and Android. Any tracking tag dramatically increases the chances of recovering lost items. Out of all the gear I’ve tested over the past few years, none has changed my life for the better like Apple AirTags. My grandpa had a saying — “a place for everything, and everything in its place” — but try as I might to be a tidy person like he was, I’m just never going to remember where I’ve put down my keys or in which bag or coat my wallet happens to be. I guess nobody’s perfect. Also: I bought an earwax camera for my toolkit and use it for everything but my ears AirTags changed all that. It wasn’t long before I’d attached tags to my keys, wallet, and bags that honestly, my life was improved, reducing home frustrations and travel anxieties in one fell swoop. Since then, the …

Apple Watch Series 11 Fitness Tracker Review 2026

Apple Watch Series 11 Fitness Tracker Review 2026

Impressive health tracking capabilities On the broader health tracking side of things, the Apple Watch is impressive—especially for people with cardiovascular concerns. You can access heart health data, like ECG readings and Afib notifications, which have helped people determine whether or not to see a cardiologist (although, the brand states that it is not a substitute for medical diagnoses.) However, as someone with a slight arrhythmic heart beat, it eases my mind to have a device that would supposedly give me an alert if my heart rate was abnormally high, abnormally low, or showing signs of (the more dangerous) atrial fibrillation. (In addition to my regular physicals at a doctor’s office, of course.) It has similar features to monitor blood pressure for signs of hypertension. Feels great on the wrist I will admit: I hate wearing a fitness tracker or watch on my wrist. Most of them are clunky, although in recent years it seems that brands have tapped into the idea that people want something a little more slim and suitable for daily wear. …

I walked 3,000 steps with my Apple Watch, Google Pixel, and Oura Ring – this tracker was most accurate

Nina Raemont/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways  I tracked my steps with three health trackers.  This included the Apple Watch, Google Pixel Watch, and Oura Ring.  Of the three trials, the Pixel Watch was the most accurate.  It’s been over a decade since the original Fitbit, with its step-tracking functionality, stepped onto the scene. Still, people are as obsessed with getting their steps in as ever.  Tracking your steps with a health tracker is one way to monitor your activity levels and make sure you’re moving enough throughout the day. By wrapping around the wrist or finger, these devices can also serve as helpful reminders to keep activity up, thanks to pings that encourage movement or screens that display daily activity progress.  Also: The best smartwatches of 2026: Expert tested and reviewed The greater question, though, is: do these step counters actually work? The companies behind your favorite smartwatch have spent millions of dollars on research and development, honing their step counters and calorie trackers to monitor every footstep …

KitKat heist update: This tracker lets you check if a KitKat was stolen

KitKat heist update: This tracker lets you check if a KitKat was stolen

The problem with announcing any kind of news on April 1 is that absolutely nobody will believe you. Case in point: On Wednesday morning, KitKat announced that customers could use a special online tracking tool to figure out if their purchased confectionery goods were part of the massive 12-ton KitKat heist that’s gotten the internet’s attention over the past few days. The KitKat heist tracker was advertised on the official KitKat X account, and whoever runs the account is ardently insisting, both in the original post and in the replies, that this is real and not an April Fool’s joke. Mashable Trend Report SEE ALSO: A 12-ton KitKat heist is breaking the internet This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed. Taking a look at the tracker itself, it’s hard to parse fiction from reality. It appears to be a pretty straightforward tracker with a text input for an 8-digit batch code on the back of each KitKat package. I don’t personally have any KitKats on hand to test this …

Amazon Big Spring Sale 2026 Live Deals Tracker

Amazon Big Spring Sale 2026 Live Deals Tracker

It’s the best projector I’ve tested yet. Palash Volvoikar/CNET I love TVs, monitors, projectors, and all things displays, and I’m also very nitpicky when it comes to them. So when I say that Xgimi gets a ton of things right with the Horizon 20 Max, you have to believe me. It’s bright, has punchy colors, and makes me want to not use my still very brilliant Samsung Neo QLED TV. I’ve hosted multiple movie and sports nights with this one now, and it’s excellent at it, or even if you just want to throw on some F1 while doing some work on your laptop. We reviewed it and loved its brightness, which can be a bit too much. But that can be a good thing for projectors, especially if ambient light seeps into the room where you set it up. It’s pricey, but currently has a $700 discount over at Amazon, bringing it down to $2,300. That’s a bargain for a model that’s only a few months old. Source link

‘Marshals’ Premiere Tops 20 Million Viewers With Streaming, DVR

‘Marshals’ Premiere Tops 20 Million Viewers With Streaming, DVR

The series premiere of Marshals logged more than 20 million viewers in seven days after its March 1 debut, making it the biggest show on TV that week — regardless of platform. The Yellowstone spinoff — which earned a speedy season two renewal from CBS — brought in 20.6 million viewers over seven days in the United States, based on Nielsen’s multi-platform ratings for the week of Feb. 23-March 1. That’s more than double its initial on-air total of 9.52 million and 6 million more viewers than any other series that week. Streaming on Paramount+ likely accounted for the bulk of the 11.08 million viewers who watched Marshals after its first showing on CBS. Network shows dominated the top 20, with only two streaming shows — Netflix’s Bridgerton and HBO Max’s The Pitt — claiming spots. That’s partly due to the below list’s methodology: It only counts shows that released new episodes during that week. It’s likely that something like The Night Agent — one of Netflix’s more popular shows — also had a big audience from Feb. 23-March 1, …

Your Android phone has a built-in tracker — here’s how to control it

Your Android phone has a built-in tracker — here’s how to control it

Most people know that their smartphones collect some data, but only a few pay attention to how much information is quietly collected in the background. Your search activity, app usage, location history, and more can be stored automatically. I only noticed this when I opened my activity history just out of curiosity, and it had a detailed record of places I had visited earlier. No, nothing is malicious. These features are there to offer a personalized experience. But it was surprising to see how much information it had accumulated. Thankfully, Android lets you control what gets tracked and stored. Once you know what features to look for, you can limit or even disable them entirely. I adjusted a few settings, and it helped me regain a bit more privacy. What Android’s built-in tracker actually is It’s not one tracker It’s worth knowing that Android doesn’t have a single tracker. Instead, there are several features in your Google account that collect your activity data for different services. Here are the most common ones: First is location …
