Taylor Sheridan Moves ‘Tulsa King’ Spinoff From New Orleans to Texas

It appears Taylor Sheridan‘s Tulsa King spinoff, starring Samuel L. Jackson, won’t be taking place in New Orleans anymore. Paramount+ announced Tuesday that the spinoff, which was originally titled NOLA King and set in New Orleans, will now move to Texas and be called Frisco King. Sheridan has also been tapped to write all eight episodes of the first season. The spinoff will center on Jackson’s character, Russell Lee Washington Jr., who was first introduced in the third season of Tulsa King, starring Sylvester Stallone. “We are honored to have Taylor Sheridan write the first season of Frisco King and bring to life Samuel L. Gretchen Mol (Tulsa King) Indie Movie Lands Release

Horsegirls is racing toward a theatrical release. Sumerian Pictures has acquired North American rights to writer-director Lauren Meyering’s dramedy feature that stars newcomer Lillian Carrier (Everything’s Gonna Be Okay) and Gretchen Mol (American Gigolo), The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. The distributor is planning a nationwide theatrical release for later this year. Horsegirls centers on Margarita (Carrier), a 22-year-old woman with autism who aims to prove her independence to her mother (Mol) by learning about hobby horsing as she masters her skills on a stick horse. Jerod Haynes (Native Son) and Tony Hale (Love, Simon) round out the cast. With her feature directorial debut, Meyering helmed the project from her script that made the 2020 Black List and was based on the family life of close friend and Horsegirls producer Mackenzie Breeden. Breeden produces alongside Alix Madigan and Michael Sherman. Horsegirls premiered at last year’s Tribeca Festival.
