If so, chances are you overhauled everything – your diet, your exercise plans, your sleep routine, even your wardrobe. This probably worked for a while, and will continue to work for a select few. For most people, however, these major changes soon prove unsustainable and fall by the wayside. But what if there was a better way to nudge your health in the right direction? I’ll try to explain this with an analogy. If you wanted your living room to be a different colour, chances are you wouldn’t buy a new …

Canada tweaks dual citizenship rule, allowing all generations to apply

Canada tweaks dual citizenship rule, allowing all generations to apply

Pledging allegiance to ice hockey, Celine Dion and poutine has just become easier for U.S. citizens. Late last year, the Canadian government amended the Citizenship Act to grant Canadian citizenship to a wider pool of people seeking dual citizenship through their family lineage. Before the revised law went into effect on Dec. 15, the country limited Canadian citizenship to the first-generation children of a Canadian parent. Now, all generations who were born outside of Canada and have direct Canadian ancestry can become Canadian citizens, as long as they possess the correct documents and fall within the correct legal provisions. The tiny lifestyle tweaks that could help you live longer

The tiny lifestyle tweaks that could help you live longer

Scientists say even the smallest lifestyle tweaks could have a meaningful impact on how long we live and how healthy those years are. A major new study led by researchers in Australia suggests that modest adjustments to everyday habits may be enough to extend lifespan. Analysing data from tens of thousands of participants, the team found that adding just a few minutes of sleep, a short burst of physical activity and a slight improvement in diet could collectively make a measurable difference. The power of tiny daily tweaks The findings indicate that as little as five extra minutes of sleep, roughly two additional minutes of exercise and a small increase in healthy food intake, such as half a serving of vegetables, may add a year or more to life expectancy. While each of these changes might seem insignificant on its own, together they appear to have a much greater effect. In fact, the research suggests that combining these small adjustments produces stronger benefits than making a larger change in just one area. “There seems to …

Trump tariff tweaks smooth the way for EU-US trade deal approval – POLITICO

Trump tariff tweaks smooth the way for EU-US trade deal approval – POLITICO

European lawmaker Bernd Lange, responsible for the European Parliament’s negotiations on the EU-U.S. trade deal, told POLITICO he believed the Trump administration’s announcement made a final deal more likely. Lange noted that the U.S. administration had scrapped 50 percent tariffs on many steel derived items, bringing some, like motorcycles, to the agreed 15 percent levels. In other cases, however, a special 25 percent rate applied. “The US is increasingly adopting a stance of not further breaching the Scotland Deal,” said the EU lawmaker. But, he added, “we wanted a little bit more, so let’s see.” The White House also confirmed that a 15 percent tariff applied to pharmaceutical imports from the EU, in line with the Turnberry deal, and not the 100 percent tariff applied to products from elsewhere. Olof Gill, the European Commission’s deputy chief spokesperson, said the Commission was assessing the announcement. “We will continue to work towards reducing tariffs,” said Gill. “Our priority remains to preserve a stable and predictable transatlantic trading environment, in full respect of the commitments agreed.” Source link

After a decade spent bouncing around the BBC, in 2004 she landed a plum gig anchoring the Strictly Come Dancing companion show, It Takes Two. From there, her ascent has been dazzling: promotion to Strictly proper, presenting three seasons of The Great British Sewing Bee, and, finally, national treasure status with The Traitors. When she announced her Strictly departure back in October last year, the question was not whether she’d get another gig, but what it would be. The answer? The Claudia Winkleman Show, a lavishly backed new primetime celebrity chat show. “I’m so nervous I just need to touch people,” Winkleman remarks at the outset of her show’s first episode (which is not a joke about the BBC’s historic issues). But she doesn’t seem excessively skittish as she introduces her first slate of …

Windows 11 HDR looks bad for browsing and gaming, so I fixed it with these tweaks

Windows 11 HDR looks bad for browsing and gaming, so I fixed it with these tweaks

High Dynamic Range: the pinnacle of pristine display formatting. Unless you’re using a PC, of course. Whether you’re on a low-end Windows laptop or own an RTX 5090-powered desktop, HDR continues to disappoint on Microsoft devices. I’ve been using Windows 11 since day one. In all that time, I’ve never been sure whether HDR was supposed to make things look better or not. That’s because questions surrounding how Microsoft handles HDR content have always remained in my mind. The wide-gamut color mapping of true HDR content is incredibly hit-or-miss on my rig. While the best Steam games can look spectacular if the format is working properly, when you’re navigating your desktop or browser of choice, Windows can have a massive problem with trying to make SDR images look half-decent on an HDR screen. Windows HDR is subpar, so here’s how to make it better Make your OS more dynamic with this one app Credit: Dave Meikleham \ MakeUseOf Thankfully, there are ways to make Microsoft’s latest OS play ball when it comes to displaying HDR images. …

5 simple note-taking tweaks that make NotebookLM twice as smart

5 simple note-taking tweaks that make NotebookLM twice as smart

There’s an old saying about information. Garbage in, garbage out. For all the powerful capabilities of NotebookLM, the AI notetaking tool is only as smart as the sources we feed it. Yes, the sources are the ingredients, and the prompts make the magic sauce. However, the recipe is also about how we write our notes before they ever become sources. AI chatbots are machine parsers after all. Slight adjustments to how we structure, add context, and format each note before uploading them helps NotebookLM summarize them better. The effort spent on the notes pays itself back when we need to refer to them later. OS Android, iOS, Web-based app Developer Google Pricing model Free Structure your notes with proper headings Make them scannable for machines and humans NotebookLM scans each source to locate relevant sections when you ask a question. When your notes have a clear hierarchy of headings (for instance, H2 and H3 headings), the AI can quickly pinpoint the right section and generate more precise, scoped answers. While NotebookLM can handle scattered and …

Surfing-World champion says many top tour surfers unhappy with Olympic qualification tweaks

Feb 23 : World champion Yago Dora and other top surfers have criticised the sport’s Olympic body over changes to the qualification system for the 2028 Los Angeles Games, saying the new system is flawed and that their concerns have been ignored. Under tweaks announced by the International Surfing Association (ISA) last week, the number of surfers qualifying for LA28 from the privately owned World Surf League’s world championship tour will drop to 10 from 20. “We don’t want an easier pathway to qualify than the rest of the surfers,” Brazil’s Dora told Reuters from Hawaii on Sunday.   “We just wanted it to be fair, and we want to make sure that all the best surfers are representing their nations in the Olympics.” A total of 20 surfers, 10 from each gender, will qualify from the ISA’s 2028 World Surfing Games out of an unchanged total field of 48 surfers.  Most of the remaining athletes will qualify through one-off regional ISA events, with the maximum number of surfers per country rising to three from two.  …

5 tiny Windows 11 tweaks that make it feel like Windows 10

October 14, 2025, is a day many Windows users will remember forever. That’s because it’s the day Microsoft pulled the plug on one of the most beloved iterations of its operating system — Windows 10. Windows 11 gets a lot of hate, and some of it is warranted (e.g., forced Copilot, telemetry, and TPM). But if you don’t want to completely let go of Windows 10, there are some things you can do to make the upgrade smoother. Most of the tweaks discussed here don’t require you to install anything (only one does). This speaks volumes about just how customizable Windows 11 is. These tweaks aren’t just for people who want to make the Windows 11 experience less alien. They’re for everyone, even those hankering for the classic elements of Windows past. Before making changes to your Windows installation, especially with the Registry Editor, it’s always best to create a system restore point. That way, you have a backup of prior settings that you can restore should something go wrong. Disable Microsoft Copilot Return to …

New ad controls let free and Go users limit personalization. Memory and history toggles shape privacy and better context. ChatGPT has come a long way since its introduction in 2022. Usually, when we discuss improvements, we talk about how the AI model has gotten better, safer, and smarter. But if you deconstruct the name ChatGPT, you’re left with “chat” and “GPT,” where GPT means generative, pre-trained transformer (that’s the AI part). Today, we’re going to dig into the chat side, because ChatGPT has become a far more full-featured AI chat app than it was back when it first launched. Also: I tried a Claude Code rival that’s local, open source, and completely free – how it went I’m using ChatGPT in Chrome on my desktop. But many of the tips I’m going to share with you work in both the standalone ChatGPT apps and the mobile versions. Also, I’ll show you …
