Bosch just unlocked more e-bike torque and power in a simple update

If you’ve been paying attention to the e-bike world lately, you’ve probably noticed a trend: riders always seem to want more power and torque. And Bosch’s latest update looks like a direct answer to that demand. The company has announced its new Performance Upgrade 2.0, a software-based boost for its popular Performance Line CX and CX-R drive units that can push torque up to 120 Nm and support levels as high as 600%.  That’s a pretty significant jump, especially considering many high-end mid-drives have hovered around the 85 Nm mark for years. But the real story here is how that power is delivered. Advertisement – scroll for more content Instead of simply cranking up output across the board, Bosch is leaning heavily into what it calls “intelligent” power delivery. The system detects when riders hit technically challenging sections – we’re talking steep climbs, tight switchbacks, or rooty trail features – and automatically delivers peak power right when it’s needed most.  In other words, you aren’t needlessly increasing power (and thus battery drain) when you don’t …

EU confident €90B Ukraine loan will be unlocked on Thursday – POLITICO

EU confident €90B Ukraine loan will be unlocked on Thursday – POLITICO

Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul celebrated the news, too, writing on X that “The €90 billion for Ukraine … are coming now,” since “Hungary is back in the European family.” After initially agreeing to the loan in December, Budapest blocked it in February as a dispute flared over the pipeline. Orbán accused Zelenskyy of slow-walking repairs to the infrastructure in retaliation for Hungary’s friendly relations with Russia. Zelenskyy sounded optimistic the cash would finally reach Ukraine. “The unblocking is the right signal under the current circumstances,” he wrote on X on Wednesday. EU ambassadors gave preliminary backing to the package, according to Cyprus, which holds the presidency of the Council of the EU, after Ukraine’s repairs and the westward flows resumed. POLITICO spoke to five EU diplomats and officials, present in a meeting of ambassadors on Wednesday or briefed by those who were, and who were granted anonymity to speak freely about the deal. In the meeting, Hungary and Slovakia made clear their support depends on oil physically reaching their territory, according to three of …

Michigan just unlocked M to fix EV charging gaps

Michigan just unlocked $51M to fix EV charging gaps

Image: Michigan.gov Michigan just hit a key milestone in its National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, unlocking the remaining funds for the state’s EV charging buildout. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has approved the state’s fiscal year 2026 EV Infrastructure Deployment (EVID) Plan, and Michigan has received “fully built out” certification under the NEVI program. That means the state has now met the federal requirement to build out fast chargers along designated highway corridors under the NEVI program. That allows Michigan to move beyond the corridor phase and start using the remaining $51 million of its $106 million in NEVI funding for a broader round focused on geographic gaps, charger reliability, user experience, medium-duty vehicles and fleets, and longer-term statewide charging priorities. The state is also aiming to align new charging sites with economic development, tourism, and long-term grid planning. I unlocked Developer Mode on my Android TV and made it noticeably more responsive

I unlocked Developer Mode on my Android TV and made it noticeably more responsive

Android TVs aren’t exactly known for their speed. And as apps pile up and storage fills, even simple tasks like opening a menu or switching apps can start to feel slow. That’s exactly what was happening to me too, so I finally decided to unlock the Developer Options settings on my TV. All it took was a couple of quick changes, and my Android TV felt quicker and more responsive than before. Android TV’s best-kept secret Credit: Shimul Sood / MakeUseOf If you’ve used an Android phone or tablet for a reasonable amount of time, you probably already know about its Developer Options menu. It’s where Android hides some of its fun and experimental settings. The same menu is also present on Android TVs, and much like Android phones, it’s hidden by default. To enable the Developer Options menu on your TV, head to Settings > System > About, then press OK on the Android TV OS Build entry seven times. You’ll then see a message that says “You’re now a developer!” Now, go back to …

Queen Elizabeth’s ‘balancing’ dietary hack she unlocked on Pancake Day

Queen Elizabeth’s ‘balancing’ dietary hack she unlocked on Pancake Day

It’s Shrove Tuesday, which means we all know what we’ll be eating for dinner – pancakes! The tradition of Pancake Day dates back to the 1400s, as it was deemed the last day to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast ahead of Easter. It was a tradition that the late Queen used to get involved in, and in 2021, a year before her death, the official Royal Family website released a list of their suggested pancake toppings – and it’s super varied. What did Queen Elizabeth put on her pancakes? © GettyThe Queen had a sweet tooth The base of the pancake accoutrements was ‘beurre noisette’, which translates to ‘browned butter’. It is a French culinary technique where unsalted butter is melted down until the water evaporates and milk solids turn a deep golden brown, creating a nutty taste. © Anwar HusseinThe late Queen enjoyed the classic lemon and sugar “This adds great flavour and keeps the pancakes moist,” the royal website explained. This would act as a base for the late …

How we unlocked the secrets of Denmark’s oldest plank boat – with the help of an ancient fingerprint

How we unlocked the secrets of Denmark’s oldest plank boat – with the help of an ancient fingerprint

Around 2,400 years ago, before the emergence of the Roman empire, a small armada of boats approached the island of Als off the coast of southern Jutland in modern-day Denmark. The armada carried around 80 warriors armed with spears and shields. Some of them were officers, and these men carried iron swords. The seafarers had travelled across what is now the Baltic Sea in sleek plank boats some 20 metres long. The planks were sewn together as boats at this time did not use metal nails, and the seams were caulked (waterproofed) with tar. At some point along the voyage, they had stopped to repair their vessels. One of them left a partial fingerprint in the soft, newly applied caulking material between the plank seams. This sea-warrior – age and gender unknown – was inadvertently leaving a message for scientists (including me) who, more than two millennia later, would finally recognise the fingerprint’s significance using cutting-edge technology. The small army was planning a quick marine assault on their enemies in Denmark – but their plans …
