Snow-covered hills surround the Iranian side of the frontier at the Kapikoy border gate in Turkiye’s Van province, where families and lone travellers emerge, many after days on the road. Hundreds have crossed in recent days, and there is now a steady flow in both directions as the US-Israel war on Iran expands across the region. Some say they fled because bombs were falling on their cities. Others decided to leave after losing contact with loved ones, travelling by land when flights were cancelled. Egyptian factory worker Mohammad Fauzi, 46, crossed from Iran with no Turkish SIM card, no local currency and no knowledge of the language. He only had the phone numbers …

Oil prices surge 20% as expanding US-Israeli war with Iran cuts supplies from Mideast

TOKYO, March 9 : Oil prices surged about 20 per cent on Monday, hitting their highest since July 2022, as the expanding U.S.-Israeli war with Iran led some major Middle Eastern oil producers to cut supplies and on fears of prolonged disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz chokepoint. Iraq and Kuwait have begun cutting oil output, adding to earlier liquefied natural gas reductions from Qatar, as the war blocked shipments from the Middle East. Analysts predict the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia will have to also cut output soon as they run out of oil storage. The war could leave consumers and businesses worldwide facing weeks or months of higher fuel prices even if the week-old conflict ends quickly, as suppliers grapple with damaged facilities, disrupted logistics and elevated risks to shipping. Brent crude futures rose as much as $18.35, or 19.8 per cent, to $111.04 a barrel and were up $15.24, or 16.4 per cent, at $107.93 as of 0014 GMT on Monday. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were …

US-Israeli strikes on Iran put China’s energy security at risk

US-Israeli strikes on Iran put China’s energy security at risk

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi condemned the US and Israeli attacks on Iran on Sunday, calling the “blatant killing of a sovereign leader” and attempts to provoke regime change “unacceptable” and urging an immediate ceasefire and a return to talks to prevent a wider regional conflict. China has long been a key Iranian ally, buying some 90% of its crude oil and providing economic and technological support. The recent US-Israeli strikes, which disrupted key installations and killed senior figures including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, put Beijing in a delicate position: it refuses to get involved in the Middle East firestorm, yet its energy security is at stake.  Watch moreDisinformation exaggerates Iran’s military successes against US and Israel Shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, used for half of the oil China imports from the Gulf, have been disrupted, highlighting the vulnerability of Beijing’s energy imports. Iran is a partner Beijing cannot easily replace, especially given the discounts it secures through sanctions-driven arrangements. By Parisa Hafezi and Alexander Cornwell DUBAI/TEL AVIV, March 3 (Reuters) – Explosions tore through Tehran and Beirut on Tuesday and stock markets around the world tumbled while oil prices soared at the prospect of a prolonged disruption to global energy supplies from the U.S.-Israeli air war against Iran. Iranian drones struck the U.S. embassy in Saudi Arabia after previously hitting the mission in Kuwait. Washington responded by shutting both embassies and ordering non-emergency government personnel and their families to leave countries across the Middle East. A day after President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave open-ended answers when asked how long the war would last, a source told Reuters that ‌Israel’s campaign had been planned to last two weeks and was ‌moving faster. The source, familiar with Israel’s war plan, said its aim was to overthrow Iran’s clerical rulers, and there was no firm deadline to achieve it. US-Israeli Strikes On Iran: Key Details You Must Know

Donald Trump has sparked global chaos once again after giving the green lught to joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran over the weekend. The attacks killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei – a devastating moment for the Islamic Republic he has ruled for almost 40 years. Iran retaliated by firing its own missiles at countries linked to US military operations across the Middle East, plunging the region into fresh turmoil. As more countries get roped into the violence, here’s what we know so far. How Did This Conflict Start? The White House has been trying to force Iran to accept a new deal which would prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons. Israel and the US have pointed to Iran’s extensive uranium enrichment programme as proof, as it has almost reached weapons-grade level. Iran continues to reject their accusations, claiming its programme is for peaceful, civilian purposes. Iran also terminated their previous nuclear agreement in June 2025, after the US and Israel waged a 12-day war against the country, hitting its nuclear and …
