Trump says China has agreed not to send weapons to Iran

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that China has agreed not to send arms to Iran and is “very happy” with U.S. efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The claim was made as Washington and Beijing seek to maintain a détente ahead of high-stakes talks between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The long-contentious relationship between the two countries has been tested further by U.S. accusations that China is covertly aiding Iran militarily and anger in Beijing that its vessels could be swept up in Trump’s push to choke off traffic to Iranian ports amid halting talks over the war. What secret report reveals about British nuclear weapons tests – veterans claimed they were harmed by the fallout

“The Ministry of Defence has always maintained that it never rained,” said Ken McGinley, founder of the British Nuclear Test Veterans Association (BNTVA). “I’m sorry, you’re liars … I was there!” McGinley, who was a royal engineer, gave this interview in January 2024, shortly before his death, as part of our Oral History of British Nuclear Test Veterans project. McGinley was present during the Grapple nuclear weapons test series, conducted by the UK on the central Pacific island of Kiritimati (also known as Christmas Island) in the late 1950s. At the time, this remote atoll was inhabited by 250 villagers as well as thousands of British servicemen. For decades, many of those present during this and other above-ground British nuclear weapons tests have argued they were harmed by radioactive fallout. McGinley founded the BNTVA in 1983 to “gain recognition and restitution” for the veterans who took part in British and American nuclear tests and clean-ups between 1952 and 1965. UN Watchdog Says North Korea Is Boosting Nuclear Weapons Capacity

UN Watchdog Says North Korea Is Boosting Nuclear Weapons Capacity

By Joyce Lee and Kyu-seok Shim SEOUL, April 15 (Reuters) – North Korea has made “very serious” advances in its abilities to turn out nuclear weapons, with the probable addition of a new uranium enrichment facility, as it stepped up activity at a key complex, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said on Wednesday. Enriching uranium can provide an alternative, and experts say, a more effective, path to acquiring weapons-grade ‌material in addition to reprocessing spent plutonium extracted ‌from a nuclear reactor. Speaking in Seoul, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed a rapid rise in activity at the 5-megawatt reactor, the reprocessing unit, a light water reactor and other facilities at the North’s Yongbyon nuclear complex. NORTH’S NUCLEAR PROGRAMME ESTIMATED AT FEW DOZEN WARHEADS North Korea’s nuclear programme was estimated at a few dozen warheads, he told a news conference, citing signs of activity such as the operation of a light water reactor and activation of other facilities besides Yongbyon.  “All of them point to a very serious increase in the capabilities of the …

China Rejects ‘Baseless Smear’ It’s Sending Weapons To Iran After Trump Warned Of ‘Big Problems’

China Rejects ‘Baseless Smear’ It’s Sending Weapons To Iran After Trump Warned Of ‘Big Problems’

China has dismissed reports that it supplied or plans to supply weapons to Iran as “baseless smears,” after multiple outlets cited US intelligence accusing Beijing of potentially entering the war indirectly. “China has always adopted a cautious and responsible attitude towards the export of military items, implementing strict controls in accordance with its own export control laws and regulations and its international obligations. We oppose baseless smears or malicious association,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stated at a regular briefing on Monday. Source: Alma Reports first published by CNN and later cited by Reuters and The New York Times said US intelligence assesses that China is preparing to deliver new air defense systems to Iran within weeks, citing three people familiar with recent intelligence assessments. CNN reported indications that Beijing is working to route the shipments through third countries to conceal their origin. The report said China is preparing to transfer shoulder-fired anti-air missile systems known as MANPADs, while citing unnamed sources. A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington also addressed the claims, seeking …

Zelenskyy will fix Druzhba oil pipeline as he counts on Hungary to lift EU loan veto – POLITICO

“We believe this coincides with other commitments by European Union member states, particularly Hungary, which has blocked certain decisions that are important to us,” he added in reference to the loan. The Druzhba pipeline carrying Russian oil through Ukraine to Hungary and Slovakia has been at the center of a spat between the European Union and Hungary. After it was damaged during a drone attack in January, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán retracted his support for the €90 billion loan that Kyiv needs to sustain its war effort as Russia’s full-scale invasion enters its fifth year. But Hungarian Prime Minister-elect Péter Magyar’s landslide victory last weekend stemmed European leaders’ optimism about a quick turnaround in Budapest — with Magyar himself indicating Monday he’s ready to lift Budapest’s blockade. “We also want to quickly get the EU loan for Ukraine — agreed upon in December — up and running,” Merz said about the money. “The funds for military aid must be disbursed quickly now. Ukraine needs them urgently.” Merz and Zelenskyy met in Berlin with key ministers from …

Chaos erupts on quiet street as families brawl with weapons

This is the shocking moment members of a family turned vigilantes and sought revenge for an attack on their home. Armed with weapons including a plank of wood studded with nails, the Jenkins clan started brawling in the street with two brothers who earlier that day had smashed up their house with golf clubs. Sending five people to prison for their parts in the incident, a judge at Swansea Crown Court said while the disorder had been sparked by the golf club-wielding siblings, the Jenkins’ had armed themselves with weapons and engaged in an act of “vigilantism” without a care for its impact on the wider community or the fear they would cause residents. The court heard the background to the violence was a belief on the part of brothers Adam Miller and Kristian Thomas that Corey Jenkins was involved in drug dealing the Ravenhill area of Swansea. On June 6 the pair acted on that belief by taking up golf clubs and going to Jenkins’ family home on Rhodfa’r Brain where they proceeded to …

Saul Loeb | Afp | Getty Images The U.S. will impose tariffs of 50% on “any and all” goods imported to the country from any nation “supplying military weapons to Iran”, President Donald Trump said on Wednesday. Trump said in a Truth Social post that any country found to be supplying Iran with weapons would be subject to the levy “immediately”, with no “exclusions or exemptions”. The president wrote: “A Country supplying Military Weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions!” It came as Trump said the U.S. would “work closely” with Iranian authorities, following the ceasefire agreement announced on Tuesday and what Trump called “very productive regime change”. Trump said in a separate Truth Social post that “there will …

Did Trump Just Threaten to Use Nuclear Weapons in Iran?

This article was featured in the One Story to Read Today newsletter. Sign up for it here. The president of the United States is losing his head, and that means the rest of us must keep ours. At 8:06 a.m. eastern daylight time, Donald Trump posted this on his Truth Social site: A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran! The world, unfortunately, has gotten used to Trump’s overheated rhetoric, and to dismissing the commander in chief as something of a crank who (as the French president recently advised) should perhaps keep more of his thoughts to himself. …
