It’s been a warmer and sunnier few weeks but snow could return to the UK once more before the end of the week, according to the latest Met Office weather maps. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind on Thursday covering mostly the north of England and Nothern Ireland, and this will be followed up with snow on Friday according to the forecaster’s latest weather maps. According to its latest forecast maps, snow will hit Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England by 8am on Friday, March 13. Areas set to be affected include Lancashire, North Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, Cumbria and County Durham, including towns and cities such as Preston, Burnley, Skipton, Hexham, Kendal, Lancaster, Settle and parts of Manchester. In Scotland, much of central Scotland will be affected including Glasgor, Biggar, Strathyre and Loch Rannoch. A map from the Met Office shows 11 areas under a yellow warning for snow and ice. People living in the affected parts of the British Isles have been warned built up snow and ice could lead to slips and falls as well as delayed journeys. The warning came into force at 3pm on Monday and ends at 10am on Tuesday (February 17). The Met Office has issued weather warnings for ice in 99 regions in the UK on Wednesday, with 93 of these areas under the same 10-hour alert. Covering almost the entirety of Northern Ireland is covered by a yellow weather warning for ice which kicks off at 3am tomorrow morning, January 28 and will remain in place until 10am. The weather agency warns that ice will form overnight Tuesday and may lead to some disruption through Wednesday morning. Temperatures will plunge to below sub zero and, after the recent very wet weather, icy patches are likely to develop on some untreated surfaces. The Met Office has issued two new weather warnings for rain as downpours of up to 40mm and localised flooding are forecast. A yellow alert is in place for much of Northern Ireland from 10am today until 11.59pm, covering five out of the six counties. County Fermanagh is the only one to escape the downpours and, elsewhere, areas of high ground could see accumulations of 30 to 40mm, potentially causing flooding and travel disruption. The Met Office said: “Persistent rain leading to some flooding and transport disruption on Thursday. Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer. A man has been found dead after a tree fell onto a caravan as weather warnings remain in place after Storm Goretti hit the UK. Devon and Cornwall Police said emergency services were called at around 7.35pm on Thursday to the Mawgan area of Helston where work took place on Friday to remove the tree. A man in his 50s was found dead within the vehicle. His death is not being treated as suspicious, and his next of kin have been informed, police said.
