During an interview with The Wall Street Journal published earlier this month, the 43-year-old businesswoman said she’s a “max three-hour mum,” meaning she’s only with her four kids from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on each day of the weekend. She spends the rest of those two days focusing on activities for herself. The remarks about her parenting choices were met with immense backlash online, which Grede addressed during a Tuesday appearance on Today. When the show’s co-host Sheinelle Jones asked if she was “caught off guard” by the criticism, Grede said she wasn’t. “I just think …

3 Scientifically Proven Ways 3-Day Weekends Make Us Better People

There’s no denying that a long weekend is a treat, but the best part is that a shortened workweek is more beneficial to your well-being than you might even realize. Even though science has confirmed that 3-day weekends are better for everyone, we’re still stuck with only 2 days. Since these coveted weekends only come a few times a year, they’re basically a saving grace for those of us who work over 8 hours a day and have to answer an endless stream of emails. But the fact remains that long weekends improve pretty much everything from overall happiness to even workplace productivity. If every weekend were a 3-day weekend, we would all be better people in three scientifically proven ways: 1. We’d be in better health maxbelchenko | Shutterstock You know that feeling on a Friday night? The feeling that there’s nothing hanging over your head on Saturday morning? There is no early meeting, no commuter traffic, no looming deadlines. Instead, you feel peaceful and joyful. That joyful feeling is better for your physical …

Think “Weekends” Rather Than “Weeks”

Think “Weekends” Rather Than “Weeks”

By Elwin de Groot, head of macro strategy  As another volatile week comes to an end, investors and market participants appear to be clinging to the hope that the two‑week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which began on Wednesday, will not unravel entirely – at least until a direct, face‑to‑face exchange and clarification of key demands can take place during the planned talks in Islamabad this weekend. Near‑dated Brent crude edged up by $2 to $97, equity markets posted modest declines in Europe, whilst US stocks rose. European bond yields rose by 3–5 basis points, as UST yields dropped a few. This suggests that the powerful risk‑on move seen on Wednesday has been dented but not broken. Experts continue to stress the fragility of the ceasefire, but markets are showing slightly greater confidence than the underlying geopolitical reality might warrant. Compared with the first day of the ceasefire – which saw Israel launch its largest‑ever strike on Hezbollah, the UAE carry out a large‑scale operation against Iran’s oil and petrochemical assets in the …

11 Things Teens Used To Do On Weekends That Feel Unreal Now

11 Things Teens Used To Do On Weekends That Feel Unreal Now

Weekends used to unfold differently. There were fewer pings, fewer group chats coordinating every move, and far fewer digital breadcrumbs documenting what happened. Plans weren’t optimized. They were improvised. And once you left the house, you were mostly unreachable. Unstructured social time plays a huge role in identity formation and confidence, and teen life before smartphones and constant connectivity created a kind of freedom that feels almost fictional now. Those weekends weren’t curated for photos. They were lived in real time. Looking back, some of what teens casually did then feels almost impossible to recreate today. These are 11 things teens used to do on weekends that feel unreal now 1. Show up at someone’s house unannounced Dejan Dundjerski / Shutterstock There was no text warning. You rode your bike, drove over, or walked up and knocked. If they were home, you hung out. If they weren’t, you left. It was simple and surprisingly normal. Social spontaneity was expected, not intrusive. Repeated in-person social risk builds confidence. You learned to handle awkward moments naturally. Now, …

V.J. Edgecombe Leads Team Vince to Victory at NBA All-Star Weekend’s Rising Stars

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — V.J. Edgecombe seems quietly confident he’ll be at an NBA All-Star weekend quite soon to play in the main event. Until that day arrives, the Philadelphia rookie celebrated his first trip to this midseason showcase with two game-ending scores and an MVP trophy in the Rising Stars event. Edgecombe led Team Vince to victory in the kickoff event for the NBA All-Star weekend Friday night, scoring 17 points in the semifinal before hitting two free throws to ice the final. “We all wanted to compete, and I wanted to win,” Edgecombe said. “I really hate losing, and we had a chance to win it all, so why not go out there and win?” The NBA’s rookies, sophomores and G League prospects opened the All-Star weekend at the Los Angeles Clippers’ Intuit Dome with this four-team tournament of three games played to a set point total. While Edgecombe was the most impactful player, he didn’t have the most memorable bucket: San Antonio guard Dylan Harper ended the first semifinal by scoring the …

How to Prep for This Weekend’s Big Winter Storm: Power, Heat, and Underwear

How to Prep for This Weekend’s Big Winter Storm: Power, Heat, and Underwear

The Winter storm has no name. But a storm is coming, An extreme winter weather system is expected to move eastward from New Mexico to Georgia and Maine beginning Friday, and affect anywhere from a third to half the country’s population by the end of the weekend. This will likely bring snow, ice accumulation, and biting cold to parts of the country unaccustomed to harsh winter weather. The best thing to do is bunker in. But doing so requires preparation. Extreme winter weather can cause a nest of difficulties that combine into a crisis, especially if you live in an area without infrastructure and experience handling a foot of snow and single-digit temperatures. Ice buildup and high winds, and the high energy use that comes with extreme cold, cause power outages that disable the electric home heating systems commonly used in places with normally mild weather. Roads may be impassable for days in cities without a fleet of plows. You’ll want to be prepared to shelter in place until travel is safe, with warm clothing …

Huh/AP Much of the country is bracing for fierce cold and wintry weather this weekend. To prepare people, the National Weather Service has issued several types of notices nationwide, including winter storm watches, extreme cold warnings and winter weather advisories. Different regions might define the terms differently, the NWS told NPR. Georgia, for example, may have different criteria than North Dakota about what’s considered “extreme cold,” since residents there are less accustomed to freezing temperatures. “You will probably find there’s going to be a certain amount of regionalization that is necessary,” NWS forecaster Richard Bann said. People can find the notices that have been issued by their local NWS office by searching their zip code on the NWS homepage. Here’s a guide on how to sift through some of those notices, and what to anticipate in order to stay safe. Winter storm watch As of about …
