Humanist school speakers reach half a million pupils on 10th anniversary of Understanding Humanism – Humanists UK

Humanists UK is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Understanding Humanism, its education programme supporting teachers and pupils to learn about humanism as part of a broad, balanced education about religion and worldviews.  The anniversary coincides with a landmark of its own: humanist school speakers, trained and accredited by Humanists UK, have now reached half a million pupils since the programme launched. Since 2016, Understanding Humanism has gone from a fledgling service to a major national programme, helping to transform the teaching of religious education across England and Wales. It has produced over 500 classroom resources, supported more than 20,000 people through its online courses, trained 3,000 teachers, and delivered 5,000 school visits.  A decade of bringing humanism to life Among the programme’s most popular resources are its animated films and classroom materials. Over the past decade, Understanding Humanism has built up a library of short films, including a series with broadcaster and scientist Professor Alice Roberts exploring the humanist approach to life, human origins, and humanity’s place in the natural world, and a series with …

Iran Counter-Blockade Bites As No Tankers Load At Kharg For 10th Day

Iran Counter-Blockade Bites As No Tankers Load At Kharg For 10th Day

Earlier today, in response to news that the number of tankers anchored at Iran’s Kharg Island oil terminal had hit a post-blockade peak, we wondered if this means that Iran is running out of tankers to store oil, i.e., Trump’ blockade of the blockade is working. In any case, it certainly means that Iran is no longer able to sell any of the oil, depriving it of much needed oil export revenues which it has found itself forced to shut in as there is no open downstream path for the product. Tanker Tally at Iran’s Kharg Island Hits Post-Blockade Peak: BBG Running out of tankers to store oil. — zerohedge (@zerohedge) May 18, 2026 A few hours later, Bloomberg echoed question, writing that Iran’s main oil export facility in the Persian Gulf stayed devoid of tankers for at least a 10th day, underscoring the growing strain on Tehran from a US naval blockade. Using Sentinel satellite data of Kharg Islan, Bloomberg found that since May 8, no loadings of large ocean-going tankers are visible at the facility’s …

Swanson’s 2-Run 9th-Inning Blast Fuels Cubs’ Comeback Win, 10th in a Row

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dansby Swanson hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the ninth inning to cap a four-RBI performance from the No. 9 spot, rallying the Chicago Cubs past the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 on Friday night for their 10th consecutive victory. Craig Counsell reached 899th managerial victories. Swanson’s 413-foot shot off Tanner Scott (0-1) landed in the left-field pavilion, scoring Pete Crow-Armstrong who singled leading off. The Cubs trailed 4-0 against Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan, who allowed one earned run over 6 1/3 innings and tied his career high with 10 strikeouts. The right-hander struck out seven of the first nine batters he faced. Then Chicago got to the Dodgers’ bullpen. The Cubs scored six consecutive runs off the erratic trio of Alex Vesia, Blake Treinen and Scott. They closed to 4-3 in the seventh off Vesia. With two outs, Swanson tripled to center for two runs and Nico Hoerner followed with an RBI single. Alex Bregman homered leading off the eighth against Treinen, tying the game 4-4. Ryan Rolison (1-0) got the …

ICE Reportedly Stole a 10th Grader’s Phone, Then Seemingly Sold It for Cash

ICE Reportedly Stole a 10th Grader’s Phone, Then Seemingly Sold It for Cash

Stephen Maturen / Getty Images Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents reportedly stole a teenage boy’s phone — and then seemingly pawned it afterwards for cash. That detail comes from alarming new reporting from ProPublica that documents more than forty cases of ICE agents putting civilians in chokeholds and other moves that can block breathing. One of these civilians was tenth grader Arnoldo Bazan, who was getting McDonald’s with his father, Arnulfo Bazan Carrillo, when they were pulled over by masked agents. According to Arnoldo, after several agents violently tackled his father — who is undocumented — to the ground, with one pressing a knee into his neck, another put the 16-year-old in a suffocating chokehold. When he told the agent that he was a citizen and a minor, the agent didn’t stop. “I started screaming with everything I had, because I couldn’t even breathe,” Arnoldo told ProPublica. “I felt like I was going to pass out and die.” Arnoldo took footage of the encounter, but his phone was confiscated after he was taken into …
