The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales review – a playable love letter to Zelda | Games

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales review – a playable love letter to Zelda | Games

You can’t help but wonder if developer Team Asano is in a private competition with itself to come up with the most ridiculous name for a video game. Following Project Triangle Strategy and Bravely Default: Flying Fairy we have this mouthful: The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. It’s a playable love letter to the Zelda adventures of yesteryear rendered in the studio’s trademark glorious 2D-HD art style, melding evocative pixel sprites with modern visual effects. From west Philabieldia, born and raised, our hero is adventurer Elliot. The antagonist making trouble in the neighbourhood is a king’s dastardly aide intent on summoning an ancient evil. The story is pure after-school-TV schlock, fully voice-acted but still unafraid to make you sit through reams and reams of text, and the action comprises treasure-hunting, temple-roaming and dispatching monsters. It’s part Chrono Trigger, part Oracle of Seasons as our almost obnoxiously upbeat hero journeys through the ages in order to solve puzzles, tip his fedora and of course, save a princess. In each of the world’s four time periods, …

26 bucket list adventures around SoCal for your summer of 2026

26 bucket list adventures around SoCal for your summer of 2026

This is San Diego’s backyard, a condensed, flatter version of Griffith Park, but with more historic buildings, more museums and a zoo with a global following. If you’re a Balboa Park rookie, start with the San Diego Zoo, which may take your entire day. (Admission: $68-$74 per adult, $58-$64 per child age 3-11.) If you’ve already done that, well, it’s lucky for you that the zoo is less than 10% of Balboa Park’s 1,200 acres, and the park’s other institutions have been growing and changing. The park’s emblematic 1914 Botanical Building is open again after major reconstruction that ended in late 2024. The Mingei International Museum, which focuses on global folk art, won Michelin praise in 2023 for its eclectic restaurant, Artifact at Mingei (which serves lunch Tuesday through Sunday, dinner Thursday and Friday). The park’s museums and other institutions cover art (fine, folk, contemporary and photographic), natural history, anthropology, flight, model railroading and all the imagined worlds that come with Comic-Con (which opened its museum here in 2021). The Old Globe theater complex includes …

Doctor Who star teases how Thirteen and Yaz’s relationship develops in new adventures

Doctor Who star teases how Thirteen and Yaz’s relationship develops in new adventures

If you’re still not over the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz’s ‘will they, won’t they’ romance in Doctor Who, you’re not alone. When we last saw them on screen, Mandip Gill’s Yasmin Khan had admitted her feelings for Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor – although the pair then parted ways in an emotional scene at the end of The Power of the Doctor, with many fans eager to hear more of their story. Now, the two actors have reprised their roles in Big Finish’s audio adventures, with Gill teasing how that relationship will develop. “Their relationship, and the development of that relationship definitely continues,” she explained to Radio Times. “It’s not heavy, it’s not the forefront of all of their storylines which I quite like because that’s not what it was on the TV show. It’s slow, and they’re not quite sure what it is. And, like you saw when she was in the latest series, we don’t know if it can head that way. “So it’s quite nice, because it is in there, and there are …

The ‘Adventures of Cliff Booth’ Cast Has Been Revealed. Here’s Everything We Know

The ‘Adventures of Cliff Booth’ Cast Has Been Revealed. Here’s Everything We Know

So: Who’s in the Adventures of Cliff Booth cast, and who will they be playing? Since April of last year, rumors about the thirteenth film from David Fincher—the upcoming Netflix production currently being referred to as The Adventures of Cliff Booth—have held the majority of the film-bro community’s curiosity. Now, in the wake of a 64-second long Super Bowl trailer (which, it’s worth noting, never actually drops an official title for the film) and a (still-unannounced) release date presumably set for sometime this year, it has our attention. The film, shrouded in a Quentin Tarantino production’s standard veil of secrecy, is an unconventional sequel to Tarantino’s ninth (and I’d argue best) film, the grand late-period summation Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. What makes this project so unusual is that it represents the union of two of the best directors of their generation (Fincher is seven months older), with one master stepping in to take the directorial reins of a sequel written by the other. There’s no real precedent for something like this I could …

10 of the best affordable family adventures in Europe | Family holidays

Sea kayaking in Greece Several companies offer affordable multi-activity trips for families in Greece, but if you’re looking for something less frenetic, and a bit more challenging for teenagers, how about Greek island-hopping by sea kayak? Running on regular dates through the summer months, Trekking Hellas’s three-day, two‑night odysseys in the Ionian Sea start in Nidri, on Lefkada, and paddle on past Skorpios to Meganisi, camping out at Lakka before continuing the next day to Mikros Gialos for a second night under the stars before turning for home. There are stops for swimming, resting and barbecues along the way, and some thrilling cave detours, but with about six hours of paddling a day, the minimum age is 14.From €352pp including kayaking and camping equipment, guiding and meals (trekking.gr) A stylish refuge in France Photograph: Hemis/Alamy The world’s most handsome bothy? ‘Children see magic in the smallest adventures’: exploring Scotland with my four-year-old | Highlands holidays

‘There! There – I can see it!” The cries of my four-year-old echoed around the ruins of 13th-century Urquhart Castle, causing a group of US tourists to come running over to the corbelled bartizans (overhanging turrets) where we stood. “It’s Nessie, I saw her,” he insisted, pointing at the ripples spinning out from the back of a sightseeing vessel on Loch Ness. This was day four of a budget, week-long Scotland adventure for the two of us, and we were spending the day in Drumnadrochit, on the shores of the country’s most famous body of water, looking for the fabled monster. It wasn’t the first time that reality and wishful thinking had seemingly combined on this holiday. When I told people I was going to take my son on a week-long trip across Scotland and my budget was £500, they were sceptical – especially as we were travelling in the school holidays. But as a woman who likes a challenge, I was up for proving them all wrong. double quotation mark The car journey was punctuated by stops …

‘In Switzerland, it’s possible to sledge between two railway stations’: readers’ favourite family adventures in Europe | Family holidays

‘In Switzerland, it’s possible to sledge between two railway stations’: readers’ favourite family adventures in Europe | Family holidays

Take the toboggan to the train, Switzerland Travelling by rail in Europe gives you plenty of opportunity for ad-hoc adventure. We were returning from a ski trip in Italy and took the Bernina Express part of the way. We’d heard that if you disembark at Bergün, leave your luggage at the station and take the train back one stop to Preda village it’s possible to sledge between the two stations. So there we found ourselves renting traditional wooden sledges from Preda and walking the short distance to the start of the tobogganing run. What we thought might be a gentle run into town turned into a fast and fun-filled couple of hours as we hurtled down the tree-lined course. At times it felt like we were in the game Mario Kart and at one point a children’s birthday party overtook us, the birthday girl’s sledge trailing balloons. About 5 miles later we arrived back in Bergün, before continuing our train journey onwards.Layla Astley Profile Readers’ tips: send a tip for a chance to win a …

The Adventures of Prince Achmed, the Oldest Surviving Animated Feature Film, Is Now in the Public Domain (1926)

The Adventures of Prince Achmed, the Oldest Surviving Animated Feature Film, Is Now in the Public Domain (1926)

Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed, or The Adventures of Prince Achmed, lays fair claim to being the earliest animated feature film in existence. If we do grant it that title, it beats the next contender by more than a decade. While Prince Achmed came out a century ago, in 1926, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, whose production was presided over by a certain Walt Disney, didn’t reach theaters until 1937. The latter picture holds great distinction in the history of cinema, of course, not least that of being the first feature made with cel animation: the dominant technique throughout most of the twentieth century, and one whose digital replacement has been lamented by classic animation enthusiasts. But the quivering silhouettes of Prince Achmed show an alternative. The making of Snow White was, by the standards of the day, a vast undertaking, requiring Disney to marshal artistic and industrial resources at a scale then unknown in animation. Prince Achmed, by contrast, owes its existence mostly to the work of one woman: Lotte Reiniger, who first learned the craft of scherenschnitte silhouette-making as a …

Rivian has a new performance division but for crazy off-road adventures

Rivian has a new performance division but for crazy off-road adventures

Rivian just announced a new division within the company focused on feats of performance, but with a uniquely Rivian twist, aiming for extreme off-road stunts instead of your standard circuit racing. There is a long tradition within the automotive industry of automakers having divisions dedicated to extracting maximum performance out of their vehicles. Fiat’s Abarth, Mercedes’ AMG, Nissan’s Nismo, and Ford’s RS, among many others. The electric startups, so far, have not had such a division. But that’s true no longer: Rivian has just officially launched a performance brand, but with in keeping with the Rivian ethos, it has an off-road twist. It’s called the Rivian Adventure Department, or RAD, and Rivian says it’s for “Exploring what our vehicles can do, and how much fun you can have.” Advertisement – scroll for more content While Rivian has only made this formal announcement of RAD as an official “skunkworks” division today, RAD isn’t really brand new. Rivian has already focused on sending its cars on various adventures over its lifetime, including before the R1T was even …

‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’ Super Bowl Teaser: David Fincher Takes on Quentin Tarantino

‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’ Super Bowl Teaser: David Fincher Takes on Quentin Tarantino

Film bros the world over were tossed a hail mary in their breadbasket Sunday night, with a surprise teaser for David Fincher’s The Adventures of Cliff Booth—an unconventional continuation of Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which we’ve all been speculating and salivating over since it was officially announced with Fincher attached to direct in April of last year—that droppped in the midst of the Seattle Seahawks’ delightful smothering of the New England Patriots in the 60th Super Bowl. The minute-long teaser is obviously light on plot but knows its audience will be freeze-framing and hashing out particulars on Reddit between now and whenever the next preview drops ahead of the movie’s still undated release sometime this year. Fincher, who doesn’t necessarily cut his own trailers but has had some of the greatest of this century attached to his films, appears to have upheld the standard of photoreal, immersive production design Tarantino set with the original installment. The director of Mank and son of a screenwriter might be one of the few …
