Netflix paid over half a billion dollars for Ben Affleck’s AI startup InterPositive, which he founded in 2022. According to Variety, Netflix’s Form 10-Q report with the Securities and Exchange Commission disclosed that it paid $587 million in cash for an acquisition in March. While the company they acquired goes unnamed in the report, the InterPositive acquisition was announced on March 5, and a Bloomberg report estimated that Netflix could have paid up to $600 million. When Netflix acquired Ben Affleck’s mysterious AI company InterPositive earlier this year, it took the industry by storm. What was the company? What tools did it create for filmmakers? How would Netflix use them, and use Affleck, who committed to work as a senior advisor to the company in the deal? And then there was the question of price. How much was the company worth to the streaming giant? Thanks to a new securities filing, we know the answer to that final question. Netflix disclosed in an SEC filing Friday that it paid $587 million for InterPositive, in cash. The disclosure was made in the company’s form 10-Q, writing that “in March 2026, the Company completed an acquisition which was accounted for as a business combination for a total purchase price of approximately $587 million, consisting of cash consideration.” While the filing does not name InterPositive, Netflix announced the deal on March 5. Jennifer Lopez’s eldest child, Emme Maribel Muñiz, graduated from high school on May 28. Emme’s father, Marc Anthony, was seemingly absent from the celebration, with the 18-year-old supported by their mom, twin brother Max, and former stepbrother, Samuel Affleck. It also appears that Emme graduated with a new name. Ben Affleck has made a very generous donation to his ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez’s, estimated $400 million fortune. The Accountant star, 53, has handed over his entire portion of interest in their $60 million former marital home in Beverly Hills, according to TMZ. In 2022, Ben Affleck became so fixated on AI in film production that he quietly launched his own film tech company, InterPositive. Netflix brought the startup into the spotlight Thursday morning as it announced the full acquisition of the company. InterPositive’s mission, which focuses on developing “AI-powered tools built by and for filmmakers” and using new technology to “protect and expand creative choice,” will now be exclusive to Netflix. March 5 : Netflix said on Thursday it has acquired InterPositive, a filmmaking technology company founded by Academy Award winner Ben Affleck that produces artificial intelligence-powered tools for movie production. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The media industry is warming up to the idea of using AI for content and storytelling, a major pivot from Hollywood’s earlier concerns about the new technology challenging creative jobs and intellectual property rights. Late last year, Disney announced plans to allow OpenAI to use characters from its Star Wars, Pixar and Marvel franchises in the startup’s Sora AI video generator. “We believe new tools should expand creative freedom, not constrain it or replace the work of writers, directors, actors, and crews,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said. Netflix is getting into the AI business with Ben Affleck. This isn’t an output deal, it’s a business deal, with the streaming giant set to acquire an AI-powered filmmaking technology company that Affleck quietly founded a few years ago: InterPositive. Affleck will join Netflix as a senior adviser in the deal, alongside all of InterPositive’s staff.
