SpaceX’s Starlink nabs American Airlines contract, another win for its IPO

American Airlines said Tuesday it plans to install Starlink on more than 500 narrow-body Airbus aircraft beginning early next year, the latest carrier to pick the SpaceX unit for inflight Wi-Fi service. The deal provides more than just financial lift for Starlink, the satellite communications network and the only SpaceX business unit that generates meaningful revenue. It also hands SpaceX a win over the competition — such as Amazon Leo and other legacy providers like Viasat. The FAA announced in April that it would be taking “action to prevent endless delays [and] cancellations at Chicago O’Hare.” It is believed that fewer than 60% of arrivals and departures were punctual at O’Hare last summer, with the airport keen to boost performance in 2026. O’Hare is expected to handle almost 15% more flights on its busiest days this year compared to summer 2025, according to MSN. This creates the risk of overscheduling. Carriers have been instructed to reduce services in an effort to avoid flight disruptions, reports the Mirror. “We appreciate the airlines working together with us to reach a responsible level of …
