Accio, Wizards: Harry Potter Audiobooks Arrive on Spotify

Fans of the Harry Potter series have a new way to tune into the chronicles of the Boy Who Lived. Spotify on Wednesday added the complete Harry Potter audiobook series to its platform, including the narrations by Jim Dale and Stephen Fry.  The audiobooks are available to Premium subscribers in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and across Europe. Listeners in North America can tune into Jim Dale’s narration, while subscribers in all markets can access Stephen Fry’s version. “We are delighted that these books are now available to an even wider audience on Spotify, as we continue to connect readers and fandoms with stories they love, and bring more books to more people,” Duncan Bruce, Spotify’s director of partnerships and licensing, said in a statement. It’s not just the core Harry Potter books that are making their way to Spotify. Companion titles including The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages are also available in select markets. Listeners can also access these …

The Most Popular Queer Romance Audiobooks on Libby

The Most Popular Queer Romance Audiobooks on Libby

Our friends over at Libby shared which queer romance audiobooks their patrons, which stretch across more than 22,000 public libraries in the US, have been listening to the most. Unsurprisingly, Rachel Reid, author of Heated Rivalry—which was adapted into the mega-popular show—has a few books that made the list. There’s also another sports romance that seems to have Libby readers in a hold. The overall list, though, is not very diverse. If you are looking for more diverse queer romance audiobooks, make sure to check out Summer Official by Rebekah Weatherspoon, The Feywild Job by C. L. Polk, As Long as You Loathe Me by Swati Hegde, and The Celestial Seas by T. A. Chan. Below, you’ll find the most popular queer romance audiobooks on Libby—some are sporty, one royal, and one magical—all perfect for summer reading. This content contains affiliate links. My audiobooks deserved their own Plex, and this is it

My audiobooks deserved their own Plex, and this is it

Most people assume their existing media server can handle audiobooks the same way it handles music. Since the files are audio, the app has a library view, and everything seems fine right up until you try to actually listen. Unfortunately, if a server is not built for audiobooks, it tends not to handle them well. It’s hard to find a good Audible alternative, but one exists that I love. Related I get full-length audiobooks for free legally — here’s the site I use I found the most generous corner of the internet for book lovers. Plex doesn’t really know what a chapter is When you start building a digital library at home legally, Plex is usually the first thing people try. It’s very easy to get into, but it’s not that good with audiobooks. The problem is that Plex, like most media servers, was built around music and similar media. Everything gets sorted into Artist, Album, and Track, which makes sense for songs but falls apart completely for a 12-hour audiobook (free or paid) split …

The Best LGBTQ+ Audiobooks for the Whole Family

The Best LGBTQ+ Audiobooks for the Whole Family

It’s summertime, and many families are about to spend a whole lot more time together than they do during the rest of the year. What better time to search out the best LGBTQ+ audiobooks for the whole family? Road trips, days by the pool, and even sweltering afternoons hunkered down in the AC can all be improved by an excellent audiobook playing in the background. Why LGBTQ+ audiobooks? Whyever not? My own kids are moving out of middle school and into the nebulous teenage world. Through their stories and the conversations they report overhearing, I’m confronted with an uncomfortable truth. For all our “progress,” human beings often default to small minds, and the need to normalize some people being themselves and other people minding their business is not going to go away. LGBTQ+ books (and representation) are crucial for queer kids and families, but they are needed as windows into other worlds for all kids, full stop. So make it easy: listen to one of these books with the fam this summer! They’re great for …

A startup, Everand, is now bundling ebooks, audiobooks, and book clubs in challenge to Amazon

A startup, Everand, is now bundling ebooks, audiobooks, and book clubs in challenge to Amazon

Audiobook, ebook, or both? Now, you won’t have to choose. The Scribd-owned reading subscription service Everand wants to make the choice unnecessary. On Tuesday, the company took the wraps off a combined subscription that brings together Everand’s catalog of over 1.5 million audiobooks and ebooks with the social book club app Fable, which Everand acquired in 2025, into a single plan, directly challenging Amazon’s dominance in digital reading. The new subscription is available to two apps’ 5 million combined readers and provides access to that over 1.5 million title library of audiobooks and ebooks, plus Fable’s nearly 200,000 online book clubs. As you read or listen in one app, that activity is synced to the other. Image Credits:Everand The entry-level plan offers one book for $11.99 per month in the U.S., while a $16.99 per month plan offers three books, and a $28.99 per month plan lets you dive into five. Because the subscription covers both ebooks and audiobooks, that’s a fairly competitive deal compared with Audible Premium Plus ($14.95/month), which offers one credit for …

Spotify’s Audiobooks Play is Working

Spotify’s Audiobooks Play is Working

Spotify dropped major lore during its annual Investor Day presentations May 21 indicating that the big bets the platform placed on books are paying off. Total audiobook listening hours are up 60% year-over-year. More than 1 million customers—accounting for $100 million in annualized revenue—have subscribed to Audiobooks+ to access additional books and listening hours beyond those included in Spotify Premium. Audiobooks+ customers are super valuable, accounting for 3x more lifetime value than standard subscribers who listen to audiobooks. PageMatch, which makes it easier to bounce between audio and print formats of the same title, has resulted in increases of up to 55% more monthly listening, with some users completing books twice as fast. Most notable is the revelation that nearly half of Spotify’s audiobook consumers, many of whom had never tried the format before audiobooks were included in Spotify Premium, started listening within the last year. This means that the platform’s foray into audiobooks hasn’t just resulted in a shuffling of the deck chairs between major players in the space but has actually created new …

John Grisham Would Prefer if You Didn’t Listen to AI Slop Versions of his Audiobooks

John Grisham Would Prefer if You Didn’t Listen to AI Slop Versions of his Audiobooks

In today’s book news, John Grisham rails against AI slop audiobooks, painted book covers make a comeback, lawsuits reveal the messiness of copyright, and more. John Grisham Would Prefer if You Didn’t Listen to AI Slop Versions of his Audiobooks If you want to listen to John Grisham’s audiobooks, you have a few options. You could buy the official audiobook with a professional human narrator or borrow it from the library. Alternatively, you could listen to an AI voice drone through it on YouTube, accompanied by unsettling AI-generated visuals. Unsurprisingly, John Grisham would prefer if you didn’t choose the latter option. The YouTube video, which violates copyright, has been up for six months and has accumulated almost 100,000 views. Music (and TV and movie) publishers use Content ID to automatically detect copyrighted work—but that strategy doesn’t work for AI audiobooks, because it’s searching for identical audio, not text. YouTube has responded by saying no one has issued a takedown notice for the video. I expect publishers will have to develop strategies to deal with this, …

5 Must-Read Audiobooks by Latine Authors

5 Must-Read Audiobooks by Latine Authors

I’m beginning to think there’s a Bad Take Troll out there somewhere with regular reminders in his calendar to start desmadre, and one of his favorite pots to stir is the one about audiobooks counting as reading. Why he decided to send the psychologist from Law & Order SVU as his messenger this time around is beyond me, but let’s just clear this up now: audiobooks count as reading, y punto. Full stop. Shoutout to Roxane Gay (and countless others) for calling out this foolishness. Audiobooks have saved my reading over the last several years. They’ve helped me balance the reading required of me for my job with reading for pleasure. They’ve allowed me to engage differently with poetry and nonfiction, where hearing the words read by their authors added a new layer to the reading experience. They’ve allowed me to keep reading, period, when my focus was too frazzled to do eyeball reading, and pulled me out of the roughest of reading slumps in difficult times. So today, I’m rounding up a few of …
