Hakeem Jeffries Humiliated After Trump Attack Backfires

Authored by Matt Margolis via PJMedia.com, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) tried to score points off Donald Trump’s appearance at Madison Square Garden for Game 3 of the NBA Finals. And, oh boy, did it backfire spectacularly. Monday’s press conference gave the House Minority Leader a stage, and he used it to attack Trump’s planned appearance at the game and to question whether Trump was even a true Knicks fan. “I think Knicks fans just want to enjoy Game 3, the first home [NBA Finals] game that we’ve had in 27 years,” Jeffries said. “But it also is not clear to me that Donald Trump is a big Knicks fan. I mean, does this guy even know the difference between Karl Rove and Karl Anthony Towns? I don’t think so. He’s just injecting himself into the NBA Finals because he always has to bring the MAGA circus into town, and that’s unfortunate.” The problem with Jeffries’ claim is that Trump is, in fact, a longtime Knicks fan, and there is photographic and video evidence of Trump …

ICE at airports: Trump’s troll move backfires

ICE at airports: Trump’s troll move backfires

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have been deployed by the Trump administration to airports around the country, and the idea appears to have started during call-in segments on right-wing radio shows. This is no exaggeration. Journalists Ben Smith of Semafor and Brian Stelter of CNN traced the ICE-in-airports idea to “Linda from Arizona,” who called into a D-list conservative radio show hosted by Clay Travis and Buck Sexton on March 20. Both Linda and the hosts were blunt that the goal was not actually helping the Transportation Security Administration run more efficient checkpoints but to trigger the liberals. “I think it would set their hair on fire,” Linda said, full of glee at the idea. “Democrats would go absolutely insane,” agreed one of the hosts. Related Trump’s Cabinet retreats behind military gates It’s unclear why Linda and Clay-and-Buck thought that annoying Democrats would pressure or persuade them to drop their opposition to funding the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE operations. DHS has been shut down since Feb. 14, when the GOP refused to …

Trump White House’s Attempt To Use A Pokémon Meme Backfires

Trump White House’s Attempt To Use A Pokémon Meme Backfires

President Donald Trump’s White House social media team tried to capitalise on a popular new Pokémon meme. Tweeting from the official account on X, the White House social media team used a meme generator to place Trump’s MAGA slogan into a scene from the new “Pokémon Pokopia” game: And neither was The Pokémon Company, which released a statement distancing itself from the memes – although it didn’t mention the Trump administration by name. “We are aware of recent social content that includes imagery associated with our brand,” company spokesperson Sravanthi Dev told The New York Times. “We were not involved in its creation or distribution, and no permission was granted for the use of our intellectual property. Our mission is to bring the world together, and that mission is not affiliated with any political viewpoint or agenda.” The company issued a similar statement last year when Homeland Security used Pokemon music and images to promote ICE, saying it was “not involved” and did not grant permission. Soon after the White House posted the latest meme, …

When Gender Policing Backfires | Blog of the APA

Recently, I was coming home from a conference, and I had just gotten through TSA at an airport that I had been to before. I noticed something that I had noticed the previous time I was there, which is a startlingly long line. The line that I had noticed previously is the line to the women’s restroom. I usually notice the line to the women’s restroom at major events, whether Comic-Con, a concert, a speech, or a book signing; the lines for women and men are literally night and day. This moment at the airport was no different. As per usual, there was no line for the men’s room; men and boys went in and out of the restroom like clockwork. Yet the line for women and girls moved more slowly than molasses on a cold winter’s day. The long women’s bathroom line is not an unusual phenomenon, but it is still painful to witness. We can make planes, trains, cars, and Wi-Fi fast, but not the restroom line designated for women and girls. One …

Keir Starmer Lives To Fight Another Day After Anas Sarwar Ambush Backfires

Keir Starmer Lives To Fight Another Day After Anas Sarwar Ambush Backfires

Anas Sarwar has managed to achieve the seemingly impossible and united Keir Starmer’s cabinet behind him – at least for now. The Scottish Labour leader decided to push the nuclear button by calling an emergency press conference and demanding the prime minister quit. It led to feverish speculation that it would be the first salvo in a concerted attempt by senior Labour figures to unseat Starmer ahead of May’s elections in Scotland, Wales and across England. Indeed, Sarwar himself made it clear that he wanted to see the PM replaced by someone more popular to at least give Scottish Labour half a chance as they try to defeat the SNP. Specifically, he said Downing Street’s disastrous handling of the Peter Mandelson scandal meant Starmer had to go. “The distraction needs to end and the leadership in Downing Street has to change,” the Scottish Labour leader said. “We cannot allow the failures at the heart of Downing Street to mean the failures continue here in Scotland, because the election in May is not without consequence for …

AIPAC’s million campaign badly backfires in NJ Democratic primary

AIPAC’s $4 million campaign badly backfires in NJ Democratic primary

A relatively unknown progressive candidate surged into the lead in the special New Jersey Democratic primary to replace Gov. Mikie Sherrill in Congress after pro-Israel groups spent millions attacking former Rep. Tom Malinowski, D-N.J. Several news outlets like The Hill, Bloomberg and NJ Insider called the election for Malinowski Thursday night before a considerable number of day-of votes for progressive activist and union organizer Analalia Mejia overtook Malinowski’s early voting lead. As of Friday, the candidates are nearly tied with Mejia holding a slight lead. AIPAC’s preferred candidate, former Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way, sits in a distant third place with 17% of the vote on Friday. The pro-Israel group’s super PAC previously supported Malinowski during his two terms serving New Jersey’s 7th District in Congress. Malinowski had received funding from AIPAC directly and nearly $400,000 in pro-Israel interests. However, the PAC turned its favor away after Malinowski said he wasn’t going to “unconditionally, unquestionably, blindly support any request for assistance that Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel might make.” Directly and through subsidiary PACs, AIPAC launched a …

Amazon’s Melania Ad Strategy Backfires In LA

Amazon’s Melania Ad Strategy Backfires In LA

In Los Angeles, activist art collective INDECLINE has claimed credit for alterations to at least one billboard for the film, writing on social media that “we have gone to great lengths and risks to help create a little marketing buzz ahead of the premiere.” Above those words was a video of a masked vandal adding a scatological element to the billboard, a suggestion that the first lady — ad shown in the ad — is relieving herself on an American flag. Other incidents of vandalism across the Los Angeles area include those on white-pasted posters and display advertising at bus stops, some of which now show Melania Trump in devil horns, a Hitler mustache, or with the words “deport” above the film’s title. The defacements concerned city officials enough that Los Angeles Metro buses with Melania ads have been routed from some neighborhoods into other, presumably Melania-friendlier zones. “After seeing significant vandalism at city bus stops on advertising for the Melania movie, Metro proactively reassigned some of the buses containing that advertising to other geographic areas to …
