Kemi Badenoch savages ‘people pleaser’ Andy Burnham – ‘all airy-fairy’ | Politics | News

Andy Burnham has been slammed by Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch as a “people pleaser” with “airy fairy” plans. The new Labour leader will formally become Prime Minister on Monday, when he reportedly intends to make a “dynamic” start to his premiership. Plans to provide “breathing space” on the cost of living and boost economic growth across the UK could include approving new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea, but his ambitions remain largely uncertain, with new Cabinet appointments also not yet confirmed. Ms Badenoch criticised Mr Burnham for not setting out his approach before Monday in an interview with the BBC, describing his comments so far as “airy fairy stuff”. The Tory leader also told Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that she thought Mr Burnham was a “people pleaser” rather than someone who would make “tough decisions”. While the former Manchester Mayor has pledged to reach out to other parties and end a culture of political “point scoring” in Westminster, Ms Badenoch said she would “score as many points as possible if it means …

Kemi Badenoch brands Bridget Phillipson a ‘disgrace’ | Politics | News

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson (Image: Getty) Kemi Badenoch has branded Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson a “disgrace to people who grew up on a council estate” as she attacked the VAT policy on private school fees. The Conservative leader’s comments on Monday night came after the two politicians clashed in Parliament last week. Speaking at a Politics UK event, Mrs Badenoch accused the Education Secretary of failure and incompetence. She said: “Look at Bridget Phillipson, for example, there are 40,000 pupils who have been displaced because of her policies. “She claimed that she was taxing schools so that she could get more teachers. 6,000 more teachers she promised. We now have 2,000 fewer teachers. This is failure. This is incompetence. “And she doesn’t want to talk about the lives that she’s ruined and the jobs that she’s lost. Heritage schools that have been there for a long time. It’s not just private school [that have been ruined] but academies as well. “It’s not about them, it’s all about her. She grew up on a council estate. …

Kemi Badenoch Slammed After Calling Andy Burnham's Female Allies His 'Handmaidens'

Kemi Badenoch Slammed After Calling Andy Burnham's Female Allies His 'Handmaidens'

Kemi Badenoch and Andy Burnham Kemi Badenoch has been criticised after comparing the female allies around Andy Burnham to his “handmaidens”. The Tory leader said they were merely “window dressing” as Labour once again prepares to make a man its leader. Burnham is widely expected to succeed Keir Starmer after the PM announced he was resigning last Monday. The new MP for Makerfield is currently the only person to formally announce his intention to run to be the next Labour leader and de facto prime minister. If he gets into No.10, as expected, it means Labour will have missed another opportunity to appoint its first female leader. At a press conference on Monday, Badenoch – the Conservatives’ fourth female leader – tore into Labour for still not choosing a woman to lead the party. Asked about comments reported by the Spectator that some in Labour think Burnham would be the party’s first female leader in all but sex, Badenoch replied: “I don’t know what to say. “The idea that Andy Burnham is Labour’s first female …

Andy Burnham Hits Back At Kemi Badenoch With Epic Social Media Slapdown

Andy Burnham, wearing a t-shirt, leaves the Makerfield by-election count with his wife Marie-France Van Heel and their daughter Rosie. Andy Burnham has hit back at Kemi Badenoch after she described him as “a pair of eyelashes and a black t-shirt”. The Tory leader hit out at the new MP for Makerfield during a pugnacious performance at prime minister’s questions. Badenoch was accused of “absolute gutter politics” as she launched a series of attacks on cabinet ministers and Labour MPs over their treatment of Keir Starmer, who announced on Monday that he is resigning as PM. Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle had to step in at one point to warn Badenoch about her language. Referring to Burnham, who is set to succeed Starmer in No.10, she said: “Now they have abandoned [Starmer]. And for what? A pair of eyelashes and a black T-shirt. “Is it not the truth that, whoever is in charge, the real problem is the Labour Party? Burnham hit back by posting a video of online in which he fluttered his eyelashes, looked …

Badenoch And Phillipson Clash In Extraordinary Commons Bust-Up

Kemi Badenoch and Bridget Phillipson during prime minister’s questions in the Commons Kemi Badenoch accused Bridget Phillipson of “destroying children’s lives” during an extraordinary bust-up after prime minister’s questions. The pair clashed after several Labour MPs confronted the Tory leader in the Commons. Badenoch had earlier been reprimanded by Speaker Lindsay Hoyle after she called Phillipson, the education secretary, a “spiteful class warrior” for adding VAT to private school fees. A Tory source said: “Labour MPs confronted Kemi, including Bridget Phillipson. Kemi replied: ‘I will never stop fighting you. You’re destroying children’s lives’.” An ally of Phillipson told HuffPost UK: “Badenoch has once again disgraced herself.  “She and her putrid party can’t stand working class women who do well.  “If standing up for the 94% of kids in state schools makes Bridget a spiteful class warrior then she’ll wear it with pride.” The Conservative leader stunned many within the Labour Party with her visceral attack on Keir Starmer and his most senior ministers in the Commons today. Speaking during Starmer’s first PMQs since he announced …

Mr Lumsden got 14,308 votes, ahead of the SNP’s Richard Thomson at 8,258. Reform UK came third with a little over 2,000 votes. The Tory who took Aberdeen South from the SNP said the people of the city had spoken “loud and clear” that the “destruction of the North Sea oil and has industry must stop now”. He added: “We said at the start of this campaign that it is a referendum on the oil and gas industry and the people of Aberdeen have give a resounding answer that we back the oil and gas industry.” The Conservative win is only the fifth time this century the party has gained a Scottish seat at a Westminster by-election. The last time was Hartlepool in May 2021, when Jill Mortimer took the seat from Labour with a swing of almost 16%, a result …

Kemi Badenoch has been told she is “not fit to be prime minister” after comparing a cabinet minister to a Nazi. The Tory leader said education secretary Bridget Phillipson “has acted like a Gestapo officer” by ending a tax break for private schools. Badenoch made the remark in an interview with The Spectator. Responding on X, Phillipson said: “The Gestapo marched hundreds of thousands of innocent people to their deaths. I’ve ended private schools’ tax breaks to invest in state schools. “No responsible leader makes vile comparisons like this. Kemi Badenoch is not fit to be Prime Minister.” The Gestapo marched hundreds of thousands of innocent people to their deaths. I've ended private schools' tax breaks to invest in state schools.
