‘Baywatch’ Reboot to Remain at Venice Beach After Filming Issues

The cast of Fox‘s Baywatch reboot will remain on Venice Beach. After reports suggested the series had encountered issues filming in Venice Beach, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass confirmed on X on Friday that production will continue as planned. “I’m pleased that Baywatch will continue to film right here on Venice Beach. When I heard there were issues with Baywatch filming in Los Angeles, my Office took immediate action with Councilmember Park to clear any City-related barriers, including making parking easier and more affordable for the production,” she wrote. Bass added: “This was a team effort, among my Office, Councilmember Park’s Office, the County, Coastal Commission, Fremantle and FOX, and I’m thankful for this continued partnership.”  The series will continue filming across Los Angeles’ iconic beaches, including Venice Beach outside of the Lifeguard Headquarters, Marina del Rey and Redondo Beach, as well as at the Fox lot in Century City. With the Fox series reimagining of the classic lifeguard drama in production, The Hollywood Reporter rounds up the influencer-heavy cast heading to Venice Beach. The 12-episode series is slated to premiere in the 2026-27 season. With production underway in Venice Beach and on the Fox studio lot in Century City, The Hollywood Reporter is rounding up the names audiences can expect to see in this new generation of Baywatch. James Pergola, who worked on Gentle Ben, Caddyshack and Major League before serving as a cinematographer on the first eight seasons of Baywatch, has died. He was 93. Pergola died of natural causes in hospice care on Feb. 23 in Naples, Florida, his wife of 63 years, Virginia Pergola, told The Hollywood Reporter. His feature credits as a director of photography included Dom DeLuise’s Hot Stuff (1979), Jerry Lewis’ Hardly Working (1980), Nobody’s Perfekt (1981), the Amy Madigan-starring Love Child (1982), Smokey and the Bandit 3 (1983), What Comes Around (1985) and Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach (1988). The respected Pergola shot 145 episodes of the David Hasselhoff-starring Baywatch from its start on NBC in 1989 and through its years as a syndication juggernaut until his retirement in 1998. Jessica Belkin is the latest cast member boarding the Baywatch reboot. The upcoming Elle actress has joined the cast of the Fox and Freemantle show in the series regular role of Charlie Vale, the biological daughter of Baywatch captain Hobie Buchannon, son of Mitch Buchannon (who was portrayed by David Hasselhoff in the original series). The official character description for Charlie reads, “Raised in Texas, Charlie is the biological daughter of Baywatch captain Hobie Buchannon – the child he never knew. She leaves her complicated home life in Galveston and shows up on her father’s doorstep with one goal: earn her place as a Baywatch lifeguard.
