Is today’s royal wedding the start of ‘The Harriet Effect’?

Anytime Princess Kate wears something new, from a lipstick shade to a shawl, the item inevitably sells out – so much so, the phenomenon has been given a name: The Kate Effect. The Kate Effect refers to the economic influence the Princess of Wales wields – and with a new, polished, intelligent and charismatic woman joining the royal family today, we wonder if we’re witnessing the beginning of The Harriet Effect? WATCH: Harriet Sperling arrives at her wedding to Peter Phillips The Harriet Effect Just like Princess Kate, Harriet Sperling is a “normal” person marrying into the royal family, and just like our future queen, Harriet exudes a warmth and class that the public is undoubtedly set to warm to. It’s not just her charm and character that are set to make Harriet a hit with royal watchers; it’s her effortlessly chic style. © WireImageHarriet Sperling is elegent and polished While she has only attended a handful of public occasions so far, this is set to ramp up once she is married into the family, …

Turkmenistan’s ‘heavenly’ Akhal-Teke horses celebrated in annual beauty pageants

Turkmenistan’s ‘heavenly’ Akhal-Teke horses celebrated in annual beauty pageants

Trainers clad in ornate uniforms and traditional white fur headgear led golden-bedecked stallions round a stage arena at an annual horse beauty pageant in the ultra-closed Central Asian state of Turkmenistan. The ancient and endangered Akhal-Teke is the subject of a fervent state cult in the desert nation, built up by horse-loving Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, ex-president and official father of the nation. AFP was given rare access to the competition, held at an equestrian complex in the capital Ashgabat and presided over by strongman president Serdar Berdymukhamedov, Gurbanguly’s son. Crowds of men in matching tracksuits clapped in unison and waved national flags as sand-coloured stallion Hankerven, adorned with jewellery and a traditional carpet, clinched the top prize. “There are no beauty contests for women in Turkmenistan but there are for horses,” said Ashir, a 70-year-old breeder. “We Turkmen are known for our carpets and horses,” he told AFP at his stud farm not far from the capital. “That is why our flag features carpet motifs and our coat of arms depicts the Akhal-Teke.” The beauty of …

Sali Hughes on beauty: the best facial self-tans for summer | Makeup

Sali Hughes on beauty: the best facial self-tans for summer | Makeup

I can’t be without a facial self-tan in spring/summer. Keen to offload heavier coverage foundations that can slip, slide and suffocate in the sunshine, I reach for a subtle tanner as a warmer, lighter and, truly, easier base layer for makeup. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Learn more. People wrongly imagine self-tan to be too effortful, fiddly and risky, and understandably wonder where to slot it into their skincare routine, but a new crop of facial self-tanners simplifies both these issues. double quotation mark The colour is so subtle that it would probably take three nights’ use before anyone smelled a rat I’d never tried TV personality Vogue Williams’ tanning brand until her new Overnight Tan Mask (£26) caught my eye. It’s a rich but not oily hydrating cream that just slathers on to face and neck like regular night cream to impart a golden tint while you sleep. The resulting colour is so subtle and buildable that it would probably take three consecutive …

The Things We Do’s Vanessa Lee Says You Can Skip an Upper Bleph in Your 30s and 40s: Here’s What to Do Instead

It’s time to see beauty through Vanessa Lee’s eyes. The Things We Do founder has built a loyal following thanks to her less-is-more approach to aesthetics.  Vanessa Lee/Instagram With a newly opened West Hollywood, California location joining her three Los Angeles studios and Hawaii outpost, the cosmetic RN and Eastern Face Reader has become a trusted beauty expert for clients including Khloé, Kourtney, and Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Gabrielle Union, and Kate Hudson. And if there’s one piece of advice she’d give beauty lovers right now, it’s simple: think twice before rushing into cosmetic surgery.  “Stop messing with your eyes. We have seen celebrities that have access to the best and most expensive surgeons get work done and it really changes the essence of the face. If you are in your 50s and need to remove excess skin, that is one thing but getting an upper bleph in your 30s and 40s and altering the shape of your eye completely may leave you with regrets in a couple of years,” she tells ET. Celebrity Hairstylist Travis Ogletree’s Golden Rules for Shiny, Sun-Kissed Locks All Summer Long

Bright, glossy hair is always in demand during the summer, but between heat, humidity, chlorine, and sun exposure, the season can also be one of the toughest times to maintain strong strands. So, what does it take to achieve lustrous, hydrated, and polished hair while avoiding dryness, frizz, and oil? Luckily, celebrity hairstylist Travis Ogletree is sharing his golden rules with ET. Travis Ogletree/Instagram The hair expert, whose clients include Shay Mitchell, Lana Del Rey, Miranda Kerr, January Jones and more, is known for creating effortless California-inspired color that looks like it was earned after a long weekend at the beach. But according to Ogletree, maintaining that lived-in look takes more than just sunshine. According to Ogletree, a clean scalp is the foundation of healthy hair, and the key to preventing greasy roots during the warmer months. “Apply conditioner to your ends before you shampoo your hair. Then, make sure you count a full 100 when you massage your scalp. Most of the time, we think we’re washing our hair for a lot longer than we …

Bethenny Frankel is doing things on her own terms and reminding others there’s no ‘aging out’ of beauty

Bethenny Frankel is doing things on her own terms and reminding others there’s no ‘aging out’ of beauty

Forget retirement, Bethenny Frankel is in her rookie era. At 55, the businesswoman and Real Housewives of New York City alum joined Sports Illustrated’s 2026 Rookie Class. It’s a moment that doesn’t feel like a new act for Bethenny, who has appeared on television and built an empire. Instead, it’s a bonus chapter. “This feels like the only act because it is completely on my terms and was supposed to be my retirement era, so everything happening now feels like a fun bonus round,” she told HELLO! over email. This stage has also brought an unexpected surprise for Bethenny. The Just B with Bethenny Frankel podcast host admitted: “I’m honestly surprised to feel more relevant than ever at an age many people consider ‘older.’” © James Macari/ Sports IllustratedSports Illustrated Swimsuit shot with Bethenny Frankel in Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico “What’s even more unexpected is how much younger audiences connect with me. It’s inspiring for me, but more importantly, I hope it’s inspiring for others to see what’s possible,” she continued. And it’s her authenticity that …

I tried the non-surgical treatment loved by Victoria Beckham, and here’s my honest thoughts

I tried the non-surgical treatment loved by Victoria Beckham, and here’s my honest thoughts

I’m realistic about ageing, and honestly not interested in trying to look 25 again, but over the years I have noticed changes to my skin tone and texture. Even with foundation on, my skin no longer had that healthy, lit-from-within quality it once did. And that was the problem: I never went anywhere without foundation. So when I started hearing more about Exion – a non-invasive skin treatment reportedly loved by Victoria Beckham – I was curious. The treatment, offered at ACL Cosmetic Clinic, combines radiofrequency energy and targeted ultrasound technology to improve skin quality, firmness and hydration over time, without needles or downtime. According to the clinic, Exion is designed to stimulate the skin’s natural production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, helping create a plumper, firmer and more radiant appearance gradually over a course of treatments. EXION stimulates the skin’s natural production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid Unlike more aggressive laser procedures or invasive cosmetic treatments, the appeal of Exion is that it feels subtle and cumulative. It’s a non-invasive in-clinic treatment …

Botox at the dentist and fillers on your lunch break: how did cosmetic treatments become the new normal? | Beauty

Botox at the dentist and fillers on your lunch break: how did cosmetic treatments become the new normal? | Beauty

Mary Munson’s first non-surgical cosmetic treatment wasn’t the result of a plan, or a concrete decision. She describes it in terms of sating her curiosity. Munson, 41, was visiting a clinic to extend her lashes when a woman working there spoke to her about a procedure that she referred to as “baby Botox” – which was, in fact, Botox. Since deciding to try it, she hasn’t looked back. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Learn more. “It was just a starter to see what it was like, and I realised that I enjoyed it. And to be honest I don’t feel like I see a huge change,” says Munson, who was 37 when she started treatments. While she thinks her Filipino and Scottish genes “give me good skin”, Munson started getting other treatments alongside regular Botox injections, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy (sometimes referred to as a vampire facial, in which platelets are drawn from a patient’s own blood), as well as platelet-rich fibrin …
