Two Weeks in August’s Jessica Raine, Damien Molony break down kiss

Two Weeks in August’s Jessica Raine, Damien Molony break down kiss

*Warning – contains spoilers for Two Weeks in August episodes 1 and 2.* The first episode of Two Weeks in August ended with a shocking moment, as Jessica Raine’s Zoe saw her husband Dan (Damien Molony), while intoxicated, kissing the wife of her friend Solomon (Nicholas Pinnock), Antonia Thomas’s Jess. In the second episode, Zoe then saw a different side to Dan, who had been depressed for a long time and previously tried to end his life. After the kiss, he had a newfound spring in his step – something which infuriated Zoe. Explaining why the show’s drama was kicked off by an illicit kiss specifically, writer Catherine Shepherd told Radio Times: “I like the idea of it being a kiss and no more, because there’s a sort of ambiguity about how bad a kiss is, which I thought was really fun and interesting. “It’s a betrayal, but it’s not full-on infidelity. And I thought that would be a really interesting event on the first night of a holiday, because no one would be quite …

Chinese Woman Living In The US Alarmed By The Way Americans Take Their Lunch Break

Chinese Woman Living In The US Alarmed By The Way Americans Take Their Lunch Break

Lunch breaks are sacred in many places around the world. It’s an opportunity for workers to slow down, enjoy a meal, and briefly disconnect from their jobs. However, one woman was surprised to learn that not every country sees it that way. Jia, a Chinese wellness content creator on TikTok, explained that “the biggest culture shock when I moved from China to the U.S. was not about the food or language. It was about the lunch break time.” A Chinese woman living in the US shared her surprise about how Americans take their lunch break. In China, Jia said that it’s standard for everything to basically shut down during lunchtime, from the hours of 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Businesses, schools, and even hospitals all temporarily suspend their day so that employees can go home, eat their lunch, and take a nap. It’s considered a “nonnegotiable sacred ritual for all Chinese people.” “When I first moved to the U.S., I realized that’s a privilege we get in China, and it’s apparently not the same for …

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more When I told my housemate there was a Diet Coke shortage, she almost fell to her knees. “Do not come to me with this news. I’ll go and protest. I’ll get arrested. My day is ruined. I’ll genuinely be insufferable to be around,” she screamed, clutching the side of the fridge. In the hellscape of 2026, the drink of choice for many looking for that addictive boost at lunch before sending a flurry of fizz-fuelled emails is in danger. In recent weeks, reports have emerged that Diet Coke is vanishing from shelves across India as addicts start to stockpile the cans due to fears of an aluminium shortage linked to the Iran war disrupting supplies of the metal. Hands off: the drink has been …

The ‘doomsday’ glacier’s giant ice shelf is about to break away

The ‘doomsday’ glacier’s giant ice shelf is about to break away

The Araon, a South Korean ice-breaker vessel, navigates a bed of sea ice near the Thwaites glacier in January 2026 Chang W. Lee/New York Times/ Redux/eyevine Antarctica’s most threatened glacier is about be further destabilised, as the floating ice shelf in front of Thwaites glacier is set to break away. “Its final demise could happen suddenly, and to avoid being caught on the hop, we have already prepared an ‘obituary’ press release,” says Rob Larter at the British Antarctic Survey. Dubbed the “doomsday glacier”, Thwaites is about the size of Britain, but it is shrinking rapidly and is already responsible for 4 per cent of all global sea-level rise. Worse still, its collapse is expected to set off a domino effect in the entire West Antarctic ice sheet, ultimately resulting in a calamitous sea-level rise of 3.3 metres and changing the coastline of the entire planet. Many Antarctic glaciers form ice shelves that float out onto the ocean and buttress against the flow of ice from the continent. Thwaites glacier has one on its eastern …

Finnish spy chief warns Europe may never break free from foreign tech – POLITICO

Cloud services featured in the Finnish agency’s recent annual report, which said their adoption can obscure the digital independence of states. Martelius said that there had been discussion in Finland about putting election information in a cloud service, but given that the Finnish election system functions “extremely well,” the idea was eventually dropped. “The kind of information that is critical for securing national security, like for instance, election-related data, is one thing which definitely should not be handled by any foreign firm,” he said. On European innovation, Martelius said Finland has excellent R&D in the areas of quantum and space, but, like other parts of Europe, it lacks sufficient capital. The intelligence chief, who took up the post in 2024, questioned whether Europe could even develop European cloud services as efficient as those from U.S. hyperscalers or win the war against Russia without foreign technology. “Currently not,” he said. “But it’s also a question of how much does Europe want to win the war by itself and how much does it want to rely still …

When Romance Fizzles, Should You Break Up or Take a Break?

When Romance Fizzles, Should You Break Up or Take a Break?

Most adults have experienced a romantic breakup, at least once. Some breakups are decidedly final, such as dissolutions based on geographic undesirability or infidelity. Others are more ambiguous, reflecting uncertainty about the relationship’s future. In the face of this dilemma, couples have to consider whether to throw in the towel or take a time out. If you and your partner are considering taking a break instead of breaking up, ask yourselves what you are seeking to accomplish separately that you cannot work through together. After all, couples counseling is for couples, not singles. However, if a relationship is clearly not working, if one or both partners are unhappy and are not hearing wedding bells in their future, they might be better off parting company than hitting pause. Trouble in Paradise: Hitting the Pause on Passion Michael Langlais and Erika Elias (2025) explored the consequences of temporary breakups in a paper titled “When Love Pauses,” seeking to understand how temporary romantic breakups affect psychological and physiological well-being. Langlais and Elias distinguished temporary breakups from on-again off-again …
