Star Trek brings back iconic character for “canon-adjacent” adventure

Star Trek legend Nana Visitor has brought back her Deep Space Nine character Kira Nerys for a short but sweet new adventure. In Lost and Found, the latest animated short from Scopely, the team behind the game Star Trek Fleet Command, the crew of the Realta joins forces with Major Kira Nerys (who’s on board the USS Defiant). They’re tasked with investigating the disappearance of a Starfleet training vessel along the edge of Federation Space – but they discover the ship is far from empty, with Major Kira and co encountering an old enemy. Major Kira is forced to grapple with the loss of the crew of the Adelphi and report back to Captain Sisko before salvaging the remains of the ship. But she points out to the crew of the Realta: “I can’t shake the feeling that this is the beginning of something terrible” – leaving the short on a very settling note indeed. Repair Shop guest brings in late son’s Cretan Lyra in emotional scenes

Repair Shop guest brings in late son’s Cretan Lyra in emotional scenes

Emma MacLennan had her late son Alex’s treasured Cretan lyra restored in the latest episode of The Repair Shop. Alex, whose grandmother was from Crete, immersed himself in the island’s culture from childhood and taught himself how to play the lyra, treasuring the instrument up until motor neurone disease ended his ability to perform. Tragically, Alex passed away at the age of just 31, and the lyra holds huge emotional significance for the family. Speaking to instrument repairer Luthier Becky Houghton during the episode, MacLennan said of the instrument: “It was my son Alex’s, and it was something that Alex loved.” She continued: “My mother was from Crete and Alex had been going since he was a small child. Alex spoke the Cretan dialect, and he just loved the music. So, he was keen to learn to play and that’s why in 2013 he ordered this and taught himself.” “I’m hugely proud of him, he was a real people person anyway. He got to know people in every walk of life including some shepherds from …

A birthday gift for a spouse with dementia brings unexpected joy : NPR

A birthday gift for a spouse with dementia brings unexpected joy : NPR

My wife’s birthday was a few weeks away. Should I buy her a present? The reason I asked that question is that my wife has dementia. She is now in a stage where she cannot summon up words, where she doesn’t always seem to respond to my visits. And even if I were to tell her that her birthday was coming up, there was no way to know if she could understand what I was saying. In the first years after her diagnosis she was aware of events like her birthday. And as a loving hubby I’d get her a gift — earrings and scarves are two of her favorite things. I long ago gave up on clothing because it was hard to figure out if a garment would be a good fit unless she were to try it on. I used to get her CDs as well from some of her favorite artists. I think she really does love Bob Dylan more than she loves me! And books I knew she’d like — the …

Tesla brings its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston

Tesla brings its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston

Tesla is expanding its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston, according to a social media post from the company. The post says simply that “Robotaxi is now rolling out in Dallas & Houston 🤠” and includes a 14-second video showing Tesla vehicles driving without human monitors or drivers in the front seat. The company now offers robotaxi service in three cities, all of them in Texas, after launching in Austin last year and starting to offer rides without safety drivers in January 2026. In a February filing, Tesla said that its Austin robotaxis have been involved in 14 crashes since launch. It also offers a more limited ride service with human drivers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Tesla may not be running many vehicles in either of these new markets yet, with crowdsourced data on the Robotaxi Tracker website only registering a single vehicle in each city (compared to 46 active vehicles logged in Austin). Robert Eggers’ ‘Werwulf’ Brings Scares to CinemaCon

Robert Eggers’ ‘Werwulf’ Brings Scares to CinemaCon

Horror king Robert Eggers is back with another creature feature, which got a special sneak peek at CinemaCon on Wednesday. Following the success of vampire flick Nosferatu, Eggers has moved onto werewolves with Werwulf, which he co-wrote and directed. During Universal’s presentation to theater owners and distributors in Las Vegas, the first footage was shown with the declaration that it would be “his most terrifying motion picture yet.” The film is largely black and white, with hints of color; the clips showed Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily Rose Depp as a villager couple, trudging along in dirty clothes and dragging a few kids behind. “Do not dread the darkness,” says a husky voiceover, with a supercut of violent images and horses running the forest. The footage ended on a close-up of Taylor-Johnson’s face screaming in horror — and no reveal of the titular monster, much like how Nosferatu‘s monster was hidden in promotional materials. Taylor-Johnson, Depp and Willem Dafoe star in the movie, which like Nosferatu is set for a Christmas Day (2026) release in an …

Sabrina Carpenter brings out Susan Sarandon and Will Ferrell for ‘iconic’ Coachella appearance

Sabrina Carpenter brings out Susan Sarandon and Will Ferrell for ‘iconic’ Coachella appearance

The 26-year-old pop star was the first headliner of this year’s California music festival, performing on Friday night (10 April). Her Old Hollywood-themed performance transformed the stage into “Sabrinawood”, and featured surprise cameos from stars including Sarandon, Will Ferrell, Corey Fogelmanis, and Landman actor Sam Elliott. Sarandon, in particular, was a stand-out. The 77-year-old actor delivered a nearly seven minute-long dramatic monologue in the middle of Carpenter’s set in which she played an older version of the singer. Dressed in a crisp white shirt in a classic car, the actor reflected on “what it was like to be a star” in her prime – and ruminated on what a future niece would think of her. Fans on social media have reacted to the moment, …

Sabrina Brings Out TK For Coachella Headlining Set

Sabrina Brings Out TK For Coachella Headlining Set

Sabrina Carpenter had a premonition the last time she played Coachella in 2024, singing to a buzzing crowd during her set at the time that she would “see you back here when I headline.” It was a less distant reality than even she may have anticipated. Almost exactly two years later, Carpenter served as the first night’s headliner for Coachella 2026 on Friday, delivering an intricate, vintage Hollywood-style set — complete with acting cameos from the likes of Sam Elliott, Susan Sarandon and Will Ferrell — that only further reflected her status as one of pop’s biggest performers. “If I said that and I didn’t headline, it’d be pretty fucking awkward,” Carpenter joked at one point during the night, referencing that 2024 callout. Starting at just past 9 p.m. Friday night, Carpenter opened her set with a long video intro featuring Elliott playing a menacing cop who pulled her over in a sort of classic film noir scenario. After emerging from her car in real life just off the stage, she took to a catwalk …
