UK Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, is on the brink this morning as The Telegraph reports that six Cabinet Ministers reportedly call on him privately to quit and the number of MPs on the record saying he must go reaches 84. The Telegraph learnt before the meeting that six ministers – Shabana Mahmood, John Healey, Ed Miliband, Lisa Nandy, Yvette Cooper and Wes Streeting – had been expected to demand Sir Keir’s resignation. However the Prime Minister did not give Ministers a chance to speak against him and instead set out his case on why he should remain in office. He told Ministers: “The Labour Party has a process for challenging a leader and that has not been triggered. The country expects us to get on with governing. That is what I am doing and what we must do as a Cabinet.” He then spent the rest of the hour discussing policy issues and the impact of the Iran war. Ms Mahmood is said to have spoken to Sir Keir, as he and his allies desperately ring MPs to beg for support. It comes after four ministerial aides quit and around 80 Labour MPs called for the Prime Minister to trigger a leadership contest. The PM is on the brink after critics rejected his bid to move on from Labour’s disastrous local election drubbing. Israel is ready to resume attacks on Iran “immediately”, an Israeli official has warned. Speaking on News 14, an anonymous official said: “We’re ready to resume fighting in Iran immediately; we’re waiting for the green light from the Americans.” Israel’s military is closely monitoring the developments in the Gulf and remains on high alert, according to a military official who spoke on the condition of anonymity in line with military guidelines. A major supermarket chain with 300 stores is on the brink of administration, with thousands of jobs at risk. Southern Co-op is scrambling to secure a merger deal over fears it could go bust. The British supermarket, which operates more than 300 food stores, funeral homes and coffee shops across southern England, said three consecutive years of financial losses had pushed it to the edge of insolvency. Over 300 outlets all face potential closure unless a merger with the national Co-op Group proceeds. Southern Co-op’s chair and chief executive wrote a letter to members on April 22, warning that the proposed merger represents their best chance of survival. Janet Paraskeva and Ben Stimson issued a statement, saying: “Southern Co-op has made losses for the past three years. “Over the last year, trading has become more difficult, and we have relied on ongoing support from our banks and suppliers to continue operating. Donald Trump commented on a major airline facing difficulties, suggesting he wouldn’t be against a merger or even seeing the federal government helping it out. The US President said the government could help Spirits Airlines, which is struggling and facing liquidation. Speaking to CNBC’s, Mr Trump said: “I don’t mind mergers. I think I’d love somebody to buy Spirit, as an example. You know, Spirit’s in trouble. … Maybe the federal government should help that one out.” Spirit has already sought government aid from Mr Trump administration in recent days, according to people familiar with the matter, as reported by CNBC, and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is planning to meet with several discount carriers to discuss the impact higher fuel is having on airlines.
