All-in-one chocolate cake

Put 150g self-raising flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 30g good-quality cocoa powder, 150g soft light-brown sugar, 2 tsp instant espresso powder, 175g room-temperature butter, 3 lightly beaten large eggs, 1 tsp vanilla extract and 50g melted and cooled dark chocolate into a mixer or a food processor with a pinch of salt (or use an electric hand whisk – just make sure the bowl is big enough otherwise the ingredients will fly everywhere when you start to beat them). Beat or whizz everything together until combined. The mixture should drop softly off a spoon. If it’s too stiff, add 2 tbsp milk. Source link

On Wednesday night, fashion designer Laura Kim invited her nearest and dearest over to her Lower East Side apartment for her version of a Lunar New Year celebration. There were a few deviations from ancient traditions—Kim’s dinner, which she prepared herself, came with custom cocktails incorporating cognac from Maison Martell and a guest list that combined over 4 million Instagram followers. Kim, wearing a fuzzy pink sweater and studded jeans, was joined by Fernando García, her design partner at Monse and, until recently, Oscar de la Renta, influencer and restaurateur Ezra J. William, Max Mara’s SVP of marketing and communications Judgie Graham, Felicia Quaning, and socialite and model Nicky Hilton Rothschild. Two genuine princes of darkness in it together up to their rotten necks. I mention Profumo: he was practically a saint compared to Mandelson. John Profumo was of course the Secretary of State for War in 1963. He had an affair with the then 19-year-old Christine Keeler, who was simultaneously involved with a Soviet naval attache. The threat to national security was always pretty thin – not much more than theoretical, in fact – but Profumo stupidly lied to Parliament about the affair, got found out, resigned, and spent the rest of his life atoning for his mistake, working tirelessly for charity. Valentine’s is on the horizon, which means we are about to officially enter chocolate cake season – that soft-focus part of winter when confectionery and romance blur together. For our four-year-old goddaughter, it is always that time of year. Just hearing the two words together makes her roll her eyes and roll out her little tongue in anticipation of pleasure, like a cartoon kid. When we told her we would come and bake a chocolate cake with her, there were squeals of joy.
