Barry Keoghan talks Peaky Blinders film role alongside Cillian Murphy

A whole host of Peaky Blinders fans were proved right last week, with their theories that Barry Keoghan would be playing Tommy Shelby’s son Duke being confirmed. Duke was previously played in season 6 by Conrad Khan, but in upcoming film, The Immortal Man, Keoghan will take on the role. The character will be seen having taken the lead of the Peaky Blinders in Tommy’s absence, and running them with a ruthlessness and brutality. Now, Keoghan has finally opened up on playing Duke, saying to Empire of playing the son of Cillian Murphy’s character: “Go on, be honest – who’s got bluer eyes?” “I look more Cillian Murphy than Cillian looks Cillian Murphy,” he joked. Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man star talks reuniting with a “very different” Cillian Murphy

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man star talks reuniting with a “very different” Cillian Murphy

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man star Jay Lycurgo has reflected on reuniting with Cillian Murphy on “very different” terms, following their earlier collaboration on indie film Steve. The 28-year-old actor, also known for Netflix’s The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself and Channel 4’s Generation Z, spoke to Radio Times at Newport Beach Film Festival this week. Lycurgo was named one of the festival’s breakout artists, following a celebrated turn in Netflix original Steve, where he played a troubled student to Murphy’s embattled school headteacher. The title character couldn’t be farther from Peaky Blinders antihero Tommy Shelby – which is a testament to the impressive range of Academy Award winner Murphy – as Lycurgo shared on the festival’s red carpet. “Steve as a character was very lost and fragile,” he explained. “I feel like, me and him, we were on our own different processes and that is a whole different thing.” Contrasting with The Immortal Man, Lycurgo continued: “But Tommy Shelby… he’s so cool! When I saw Cillian in the suit for the first time, …

Now, Fiennes, who previously played the character in the film adaptations, appeared to jump the gun when asked on the red carpet for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple: “Who do you think should fill your shoes for Voldemort in the upcoming HBO show?” In a viral TikTok clip shared by Let’s Talk Film, he responded: “I’m told they are already filled, aren’t they? ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Director Nia DaCosta on Cillian Murphy’s Big Cameo: ‘I Was Gagged’

With all that being said, they were so supportive, and for a franchise film, a studio film—I mean, technically it’s an indie, because it’s negative pickup [Ed. Note: This means that Sony agreed to buy The Bone Temple after it was finished]—but still, it’s a lot of money, and everything I wanted I got to do, and the collaboration was beautiful. What was the nature of that collaboration? Did you have any oversight from Alex or Danny at all? Did they give you any guardrails? There weren’t guardrails, really. There were things about the world and the lore that we had to ensure made sense. If you go on Reddit, the fans can be pretty fastidious. It’s really intense. I used to be a very online nerdy fan as well, and I still have that spirit within me, so I get it. But no, they’re producers on the film, and they’re also directors, so I’m always nervous walking into that space, being like, “Oh, are they trying to get me to direct it in the …

Cillian Murphy Is Still a Pro at Subtle Red-Carpet Suiting

Cillian Murphy Is Still a Pro at Subtle Red-Carpet Suiting

Some guys like to treat the red carpet like a whole performance, but Cillian Murphy does the exact opposite. The man just turns up, stands still, and somehow steals the room. At the world premiere of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple in London on Thursday, he reminded everyone that, sometimes, holding back is the biggest flex. On the red carpet, the Irish national treasure calmly and quietly pulled up in a double-breasted gray suit from Anglo-Italian, a label based in Marylebone, London. Crafted in Italy, the suit was built with soft shoulders, and sharp, fanged-out lapels, plus some nice tortoiseshell buttons. The cloth itself was a vintage-looking nailhead flannel woven by Fox Brothers in Somerset, England. It’s all very wintery, all very serious, and all very Murphy. There aren’t winners and losers. It’s subjective. I might think something’s a bag of shite and it gets five f***ing Baftas.” He added: “That’s happened quite a few times, in fact.” The This is England star went on to use Murphy as an example of when he doesn’t agree with awards bodies. “I might get myself into trouble here but Cillian Murphy, right? Wonderful actor. He’s never won a Bafta for playing Tommy Shelby [in Peaky Blinders]!” he said. “One of the finest performances I’ve ever seen. What …
