Cillian Murphy is a stalwart of the acting world, having established himself as a safe pair of hands thanks to standout performances in Oppenheimer, Peaky Blinders, 28 Years Later and Steve. Rebecca Ferguson has spoken about her approach to her intimate scenes in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. The Swedish actress, known for her roles in the Dune and Mission: Impossible series, joins the franchise for the feature film outing, playing the mysterious Kaulo Chirklo, the identical twin sister of Tommy Shelby’s former lover, Zelda, with whom he sired his eldest son, Erasmus “Duke” Shelby (Barry Keoghan). British TV viewers first encountered the Birmingham gangster in September 2013, when he rode a black stallion through the streets of 1919 Small Heath. For Murphy, presently sitting opposite me in a London hotel suite, the introduction came months before that, when he first opened Steven Knight’s script and realised Shelby was a part in a million. “I could tell that it was special,” says Murphy, a glossy amalgam of expensively barbered hair and radiant skin that belies his 49 years. “I read the opening sequence where he rides into Birmingham. Tommy Shelby is finally back on our screens after four years away. The long-awaited Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man, is in select cinemas now (ahead of its arrival on Netflix on 20 March), and it ushers in a new chapter in the Shelby clan’s story. As a long-time fan of the show, I had been a little worried that a movie may not have the same magic as the show did. But boy, was I wrong. Steven Knight has created something incredibly special with this film. It’s everything that a fan of the show could want it to be, and even more. Personally, I’d give it five stars. Cillian Murphy and his artist wife Yvonne McGuinness have finally secured planning permission to restore a cinema in Dingle, Ireland. The Oscar-winning Oppenheimer actor, 49, and his wife of 22 years bought the dilapidated cinema in November 2024 with the intention of restoring it to its former glory. It wasn’t an easy sell to get Cillian Murphy to don his cap again and take back up the mantel of Tommy Shelby, by the sounds of it. But if anyone can get it done, it’s creator Steven Knight. Murphy, who first embodied the character he’s become synonymous with in the BBC TV series back in 2013, was confirmed to be reprising the role last year, months before filming began on the long-rumoured movie continuation, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. “It was pretty much from like 2019-2020 we’ve been talking about this and going through different versions of the script and working it and reworking and revising it,” Murphy told Deadline recently, ahead of the film’s release.
