Concerns about whether the outgoing premier would concede dissipated when Orbán congratulated his challenger surprisingly early on election night.  Hungarian voters had turned out in the greatest numbers since the fall of communism in the 1990s to turn away from Orbán’s Fidesz party, with exit polls indicating a possible “super-majority” victory for Magyar’s Tisza movement. The movement rallied various opposition forces around the themes of fighting corruption and re-integrating the European mainstream.  Orbán congratulated Magyar in a concession speech less than three hours after polls closed. Early ballot counts suggested a possible two-thirds majority for Magyar and Tisza. If that happens, he …

JPMorgan concedes it closed Trump’s accounts after Jan. 6 attack

JPMorgan concedes it closed Trump’s accounts after Jan. 6 attack

President Donald Trump (L), and JP Morgan CEO, Jamie Dimon. Reuters JPMorgan Chase acknowledged for the first time that it closed the bank accounts of President Donald Trump and several of his businesses in the political and legal aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, attacks on the U.S. Capitol, the latest development in a legal saga over the controversial practice of “debanking.” The acknowledgment came in a court filing submitted this week in Trump’s lawsuit against the bank and its leader, Jamie Dimon. The president sued for $5 billion, alleging that his accounts were closed for political reasons, disrupting his business operations. “In February 2021, JPMorgan informed Plaintiffs that certain accounts maintained with JPMorgan’s CB and PB would be closed,” JPMorgan’s former chief administrative officer Dan Wilkening wrote in the court filing. The “PB” and “CB” stands for JPMorgan’s private bank and commercial bank. Until now, JPMorgan has never admitted it closed the president’s accounts, and would only speak hypothetically about when the bank closes accounts and its reasons for closing accounts. Emails and text …

Malinowski concedes to Mejia in House Democratic primary in New Jersey : NPR

Alex Wong/Getty Images hide caption toggle caption Alex Wong/Getty Images Former congressman Tom Malinowski conceded Tuesday to challenger Analilia Mejia in a closely watched Democratic primary in a special election to fill the U.S. House seat vacated by New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill. “I congratulate Analilia Mejia on her hard won victory in the NJ-11 special primary. I look forward to supporting her in the April general election,” Malinowski said in a statement. The Associated Press has not yet made a call in the race. Last Thursday, Mejia led by a narrow margin as polls closed in the district. Some mail-in ballots remain to be counted. The Democratic nominee will face Randolph Township Mayor Joe Hathaway, the only Republican to run, in the special general election to replace Sherrill. Sherrill resigned from her seat shortly after winning the gubernatorial race last November. The special primary contest is one of the …

Trump Concedes Iran ‘Seriously Talking To Us’ As Ayatollah Says ‘We Don’t Seek To Attack Any Country’

Trump Concedes Iran ‘Seriously Talking To Us’ As Ayatollah Says ‘We Don’t Seek To Attack Any Country’

President Donald Trump made a big admission to Fox News on Saturday. He said Iran is currently talking to US negotiators, and he offered it as a positive sign that attacks on Iran could be averted. “You could make a negotiated deal that would be satisfactory with no nuclear weapons,” Trump said. “They should do that, but I don’t know that they will. But they are talking to us. Seriously talking to us.” JPost: Shutterstock/Getty Images One significant problem remains: both sides are in complete disagreement as to precisely what can and should be negotiated. Tehran says it is open to resuming talks on nuclear weapons and development, while the Trump administration has started insisting that Iran be made to limit the range and capabilities of its ballistic missiles. But Iran has shut the door on talks on its ballistic missile arsenal, given this is all it has to wage war in the scenario of enemy attack. And of course, Israel is not being asked to do the same (limit or reduce its missile program). Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali …

EU concedes Trump is not on its side – POLITICO

Limited relief Trump’s speech at Davos, during which he called Denmark’s self-governing island “our territory,” did nothing to dial down the temperature 24 hours before the leaders’ hastily arranged gathering in the Belgian capital to discuss their next response to the disintegrating postwar order. While Trump ruled out the use of military force to seize Greenland, EU governments didn’t regard this as a climbdown because of the harshness of his language about Europe in general and clear confirmation of his intentions, according to two EU diplomats. Trump did eventually walk back his threat of issuing tariffs on the eight European countries which he considered to be standing in his way on Greenland, but by that point, things were already too far gone. “Our American Dream is dead,” said an EU diplomat from a country that has been among the bloc’s transatlantic champions. “Donald Trump murdered it.” | Mandel Ngan/Getty Images “After the back and forth of the last few days, we should now wait and see what substantive agreements are reached between [NATO Secretary-General] Mr. …

Sanna Marin: Finland’s Prime Minister concedes election

CNN  —  Finland’s left-wing Prime Minister Sanna Marin conceded defeat on Sunday in the Nordic country’s parliamentary election as the opposition right-wing National Coalition Party (NCP) claimed victory in a tightly fought contest. The pro-business NCP was expected to win 48 of the 200 seats in parliament, narrowly ahead of the nationalist Finns Party with 46 seats and Marin’s Social Democrats on 43 seats, justice ministry election data showed with all ballots counted. “We got the biggest mandate,” NCP leader Petteri Orpo said in a speech to followers, vowing to “fix Finland” and its economy. He will get the first chance at forming a coalition to obtain majority in parliament as Marin’s era as prime minister was expected to end. “We have gained support, we have gained more seats (in parliament). That’s an excellent achievement, even if we did not finish first today,” the prime minister said in a speech to party members. Marin, 37, the world’s youngest prime minister when she took office in 2019, is considered by fans around the globe as a …
