Laverne Cox admits she didn’t plan to fall in love with MAGA cop: ‘I betrayed myself’

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Laverne Cox is addressing her former relationship with a “blonde-haired, blue-eyed, MAGA Republican” police officer after her love life made headlines last year. The Orange is the New Black actor and trans activist, 54, faced backlash last summer when she announced in an Instagram video that she had previously been in a relationship for more than three years with a 26-year-old New York Police Department cop who voted for Donald Trump. Speaking about her experience during Monday’s episode of The View while on her press tour for her new memoir Transcendent, she told the ABC talk show panelists: “People show you who they are eventually.” She went on to say that the man, whom she did not identify by name on the show or …

Madison Square Garden Bans Lawyer Representing New York Cop Injured at a Boxing Match

Madison Square Garden Bans Lawyer Representing New York Cop Injured at a Boxing Match

His client is a New York cop who was injured during a private security gig at Madison Square Garden. He sued the Garden on behalf of the cop. Now John Scola, a lawyer well known for representing local police officers, is banned from the high-profile arena and several others owned by the famously controlling James Dolan. For years, Dolan openly excluded entire law firms from his venues if a single attorney was in any sort of legal dispute with the Garden; those bans would then be enforced by Dolan’s increasingly sophisticated facial recognition system. What wasn’t entirely clear was whether Madison Square Garden was continuing to grow its legal blacklist. A letter to Scola, dated April 30 and reviewed by WIRED, suggested this practice continues. “Any tickets to MSG Venues,” the letter reads, “are hereby revoked.” The ban also highlights the fissures in the multilayered relationship between New York City’s public servants and its most iconic arena. As WIRED reported last month, MSG security functionally acted as a second, unsanctioned surveillance force in midtown Manhattan—without …

Man who ate takeaway off cop car outside London police station served £480 fine

A “childish” man who ate a takeaway off the bonnet of a police car parked outside a central London police station has been fined. Adam Bachir-Belmehdi, 21, was convicted of causing criminal damage after the incident outside Bishopsgate Police Station. CCTV footage showed Bachir-Belmehdi, of McGrath Road, Stratford, approaching the police car and laying across the bonnet and windscreen while his friend took photos of him. He then put his takeaway meal on the car’s bonnet and start eating it, before kicking the side of the vehicle and wing mirror twice. After kicking the vehicle, he carried on causing damage by ripping the wing mirror from the car. Bachir-Belmehdi was captured on the CCTV, which was fed into the City of London Police control room, and officers were sent to the scene. Footage showed them chasing him as he realises that he has been caught in the act. His actions meant that the City of London Police had a marked vehicle off the road for five days. At Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday, Bachir-Belmehdi was …

How frustration at Cop stalemates inspires first global talks on phasing out fossil fuels | Fossil fuels

The world’s first Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels conference, co-hosted by Colombia and the Netherlands, takes place in Santa Marta, Colombia, from 24 to 29 April. A “coalition of the willing” – including 54 countries and various subnational governments, civil society groups and academics – will try to chart a new path to powering the world with low-carbon energy. What is the transition away from fossil fuels? With temperatures at land and sea breaking records, the prospect of limiting global heating to 1.5C above preindustrial levels looks increasingly remote. It is widely accepted that the only way of avoiding the worst ravages of climate chaos is to slam the brakes on fossil fuels and shift the global economy urgently to a low-carbon footing. The technologies needed to do that – wind and solar power, electric vehicles, heat pumps for home heating, battery storage – are all available and increasingly affordable. But the inertia of the fossil fuel economy, and the vast vested interests of the oil, gas and coal industries, are working against the shift. …

Malaysian senior cop among 6 nabbed for alleged armed robberies targeting wealthy foreigners; US$1.1 million stolen

KUALA LUMPUR: Six men, including a senior police officer, were arrested on Wednesday (Apr 8) over their alleged involvement in three armed robberies targeting wealthy foreign nationals, with losses from the heists estimated at RM4.4 million (US$1.1 million). The senior police officer purportedly acted as the coordinator in the heists, allegedly impersonated police officers to gain access to victims’ homes in Kepong in the early hours on Sunday (Apr 5), Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus told local news outlets at a press conference on Wednesday.  The suspects reportedly stole three luxury cars – a Toyota Alphard, a Rolls-Royce and a Bentley – and a safe containing RM24,200 and US$1,200 in cash, assorted jewellery and gold bars, according to local news publication The Star. The victims include two Chinese nationals – a man and woman – and an Indonesian woman, aged between 29 and 52, said the police chief. “One of the suspects allegedly threatened the victims with an object resembling a pistol,” Fadil was quoted saying in a Malay Mail report. The arrested police officer has been suspended from …

SEC’s top cop quit as White House seeks Musk wrist-slap

SEC’s top cop quit as White House seeks Musk wrist-slap

The top enforcement official of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Margaret Ryan, quit last Monday after just six months on the job. Reuters now says the reason for her departure is due to tension between Ryan and top SEC officials over enforcement cases against financial backers of Donald Trump, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Ryan joined the SEC just six months ago, and had not had previous experience in securities law. She was previously a US marine, a military judge, and a clerk for Clarence Thomas. Her departure on Monday was a surprise, given so little time on the job. But Reuters’ new report puts some light on the matter. According to people familiar with the matter, Ryan clashed with others in the department over enforcement against against both Musk, who gave $288 million in bribes to Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign (an office he is Constitutionally barred from holding), and Justin Sun, a crypto billionaire who bought into one of Mr. Trump’s crypto scams. Goldendoodle abandoned at airport is adopted by cop who rescued her

Abandoned at the airport with nothing but a leash and a lot of confusion, a young goldendoodle has landed somewhere better than any arrival gate — on the couch of the officer who rescued him. The dog was found tied to a carry-on-baggage sizer by the JetBlue ticket counter at Terminal 3 at Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport earlier this month, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. A group of Las Vegas police officers responded to reports of the abandoned pooch at 11:39 p.m. on Feb. 2. After speaking with airline staff, they learned that the owner had ditched her dog when told she needed to complete additional paperwork in order to bring him on board as a service animal. Officers then tracked the owner down at Gate D1 where she was waiting to board her flight, sans pooch. When officers questioned her, she became defensive, stating that the airline wouldn’t let her fly with him and that the dog had a tracking device, “implying it was acceptable to leave the animal …

Woman Uses AI to Apologize for Burning Down House, Biting Cop and Declaring She Had AIDS

Illustration by Tag Hartman-Simkins / Futurism. Source: Getty Images The point of making an apology is that it should be sincere. It also helps if you put some actual effort into making it. A judge in New Zealand is being forced to mull over these criteria after receiving a written apology from a defendant that appears to be generated with — and why else would we be talking about it on this website — an AI model. The defendant had a lot to answer for: she pleaded guilty to arson and other charges after burning down a house. She also bit a police officer while in custody, after which she apparently “took delight” in telling the cop that she had AIDS, The New Zealand Herald first reported. When it came time for sentencing, the judge, Tom Gilbert of the district court in Christchurch, confronted the defendant about the apology letters she sent, one to the judge and one for the victims. “The issue of remorse is interesting,” Gilbert said according to a transcript viewed by …

Cop shoots ‘armed man who targeted police officer’ during ceremony | World | News

A man reportedly wielding a knife was shot and injured by police after he allegedly tried to attack an officer during a ceremony beneath the Arc de Triomphe monument in Paris, officials said. The man allegedly targeted an officer on Friday afternoon, as the cop was securing the ceremony for relighting the eternal flame honouring unknown soldiers at the Napoleon-era landmark, according to a Paris police official. Another officer shot the alleged attacker, who was hospitalised, the official said. No bystanders or police officers were injured in the incident, the official told The Associated Press. The French counterterrorism prosecutor’s office said it is investigating the case and sent an investigator to the scene.  A statement from the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office read: “Following the events that occurred on February 13, 2026 in Paris, the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office has taken up these facts and opened a preliminary investigation. “A magistrate from the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office is travelling to the scene in Paris.”  The incident happened at around 6pm local time (5pm), when three members …
