Malaysian senior cop among 6 nabbed for alleged armed robberies targeting wealthy foreigners; US$1.1 million stolen

KUALA LUMPUR: Six men, including a senior police officer, were arrested on Wednesday (Apr 8) over their alleged involvement in three armed robberies targeting wealthy foreign nationals, with losses from the heists estimated at RM4.4 million (US$1.1 million). The senior police officer purportedly acted as the coordinator in the heists, allegedly impersonated police officers to gain access to victims’ homes in Kepong in the early hours on Sunday (Apr 5), Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus told local news outlets at a press conference on Wednesday.  The suspects reportedly stole three luxury cars – a Toyota Alphard, a Rolls-Royce and a Bentley – and a safe containing RM24,200 and US$1,200 in cash, assorted jewellery and gold bars, according to local news publication The Star. The victims include two Chinese nationals – a man and woman – and an Indonesian woman, aged between 29 and 52, said the police chief. “One of the suspects allegedly threatened the victims with an object resembling a pistol,” Fadil was quoted saying in a Malay Mail report. The arrested police officer has been suspended from …

SEC’s top cop quit as White House seeks Musk wrist-slap

SEC’s top cop quit as White House seeks Musk wrist-slap

The top enforcement official of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Margaret Ryan, quit last Monday after just six months on the job. Reuters now says the reason for her departure is due to tension between Ryan and top SEC officials over enforcement cases against financial backers of Donald Trump, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Ryan joined the SEC just six months ago, and had not had previous experience in securities law. She was previously a US marine, a military judge, and a clerk for Clarence Thomas. Her departure on Monday was a surprise, given so little time on the job. But Reuters’ new report puts some light on the matter. According to people familiar with the matter, Ryan clashed with others in the department over enforcement against against both Musk, who gave $288 million in bribes to Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign (an office he is Constitutionally barred from holding), and Justin Sun, a crypto billionaire who bought into one of Mr. Trump’s crypto scams. Goldendoodle abandoned at airport is adopted by cop who rescued her

Abandoned at the airport with nothing but a leash and a lot of confusion, a young goldendoodle has landed somewhere better than any arrival gate — on the couch of the officer who rescued him. The dog was found tied to a carry-on-baggage sizer by the JetBlue ticket counter at Terminal 3 at Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport earlier this month, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. A group of Las Vegas police officers responded to reports of the abandoned pooch at 11:39 p.m. on Feb. 2. After speaking with airline staff, they learned that the owner had ditched her dog when told she needed to complete additional paperwork in order to bring him on board as a service animal. Officers then tracked the owner down at Gate D1 where she was waiting to board her flight, sans pooch. When officers questioned her, she became defensive, stating that the airline wouldn’t let her fly with him and that the dog had a tracking device, “implying it was acceptable to leave the animal …

Woman Uses AI to Apologize for Burning Down House, Biting Cop and Declaring She Had AIDS

Illustration by Tag Hartman-Simkins / Futurism. Source: Getty Images The point of making an apology is that it should be sincere. It also helps if you put some actual effort into making it. A judge in New Zealand is being forced to mull over these criteria after receiving a written apology from a defendant that appears to be generated with — and why else would we be talking about it on this website — an AI model. The defendant had a lot to answer for: she pleaded guilty to arson and other charges after burning down a house. She also bit a police officer while in custody, after which she apparently “took delight” in telling the cop that she had AIDS, The New Zealand Herald first reported. When it came time for sentencing, the judge, Tom Gilbert of the district court in Christchurch, confronted the defendant about the apology letters she sent, one to the judge and one for the victims. “The issue of remorse is interesting,” Gilbert said according to a transcript viewed by …

Cop shoots ‘armed man who targeted police officer’ during ceremony | World | News

A man reportedly wielding a knife was shot and injured by police after he allegedly tried to attack an officer during a ceremony beneath the Arc de Triomphe monument in Paris, officials said. The man allegedly targeted an officer on Friday afternoon, as the cop was securing the ceremony for relighting the eternal flame honouring unknown soldiers at the Napoleon-era landmark, according to a Paris police official. Another officer shot the alleged attacker, who was hospitalised, the official said. No bystanders or police officers were injured in the incident, the official told The Associated Press. The French counterterrorism prosecutor’s office said it is investigating the case and sent an investigator to the scene.  A statement from the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office read: “Following the events that occurred on February 13, 2026 in Paris, the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office has taken up these facts and opened a preliminary investigation. “A magistrate from the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office is travelling to the scene in Paris.”  The incident happened at around 6pm local time (5pm), when three members …

Ex-royal cop who ‘saw Andrew bring women to Palace’ contacts police | Royal | News

A former royal police protection officer who saw Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor bringing women into Buckingham Palace has contacted Thames Valley Police, it has been reported. Paul Page, who worked at the palace between 1998 and 2004, has accused the disgraced royal of preventing official logs recording the names of his guests. Andrew has denied any wrongdoing. Mr Page told The Sun he felt obliged to contact cops with his own information after seeing the publication’s front page. He claims that women who turn up at the palace as guests of Andrew were allowed in with no security clearance. In direct violation of security protocol, officers were not permitted to know the guests’ names – even with the late Queen Elizabeth II residing in the residence, he said. Mr Page said: “We were just told a female will be coming at whatever time. It’s always after closing, and a female will be approaching the front gate. “We were told to call footmen and then either the female would walk through unescorted, or the footman would come down …

New York Mayor Mamdani Pays Hospital Visit To Man Who Tried To Kill A Cop

Authored by Tim O’Brien via PJMedia.com, While snow and ice continue to wreak havoc in New York, while the homeless continue to live in deadly cold conditions on the street without the city’s safety net of warm shelter when the weather gets below freezing, and as the mayor himself warns residents of a dire fiscal crisis ahead, Zohran Mamdani found time this week to visit a man in the hospital who tried to kill a police officer with a knife.  Police were forced to shoot Jabez Chakraborty on Jan. 26 after the man’s family called 911, wanting an ambulance to take the 22-year-old for treatment over some form of mental health crisis. Reportedly, the caller made no mention of the possibility that Chakraborty might have a weapon.  When police arrived on the scene, and a family member let them into the house, Chakraborty charged the officer with a large knife in his hand. Body camera footage shows that as he retreated out of the front door, the officer had to shoot the man to neutralize the threat.  Mamdani just …

Love ‘The Pitt’? Stream This Underrated Cop Drama Right Now

Once TNT took full control of Southland, they trimmed some of the show’s fat and really locked in on the most interesting characters and actors. Mismatched partners Cudlitz and McKenzie along with Regina King’s Det. Lydia Adams and Hatosy’s Det. Sammy Bryant became the core four. McKenzie became a TV star on the primetime soap that was The O.C., but he proved his acting bonafides on Southland, delivering his first real adult turn, and demonstrating true inner conflict as Ben, who repeatedly has to confront why he’s actually doing this job. And after a long career that included appearances in dozens of hit shows, including ER, 24, Band of Brothers and Lost, Cudlitz finally got his big shot with Southland, and he responded by giving the best performance of his career. To his partners, Cooper comes off as an overly-critical commanding officer who takes too much pleasure in his power over them, but much of it a shield for his struggles with his sexuality and painkiller abuse. And for anyone watching Southland, it came as …

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Netflix Cop Thriller

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in Netflix Cop Thriller

Writer-director Joe Carnahan bows at the altar of Michael Mann in The Rip, from the foreboding Miami nightscapes to a pulsing synth score by Clinton Shorter that echoes the tense atmosphere of classics like Thief and Heat. That’s not to say this gripping Netflix cop thriller is derivative, especially given that Carnahan has his own foundations in the genre, starting with his neo-noir breakthrough, Narc. While his new film doesn’t reshape the mold, an ace cast led by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck — who produced under their Artists Equity banner — and twisty plotting that bristles with paranoia and mistrust make it an entertaining watch. Inspired by true events, the film kicks off with a prologue in which Miami-Dade narcotics division captain Jackie Velez (Lina Esco) speeds through a rainy night while trying to keep a woman on the other end of the phone calm. She promises to protect her and get her out of a dangerous situation, but before she can reach the distressed woman, Jackie is shot and killed by two men …

What Drove an Ex–Police Officer to Attack a Fellow Cop on January 6

In the early-morning hours of January 5, 2021, Thomas Webster, a former U.S. Marine and retired police officer, drove south on Interstate 95 toward Washington, D.C. Webster, who was then 54, had been conflicted about whether to attend the “Save America” rally, but Donald Trump had used the word patriot. Webster had joined the military at 19, taken his first plane ride to boot camp in South Carolina, gotten his first taste of lobster tail on a ship in the Mediterranean. He loved the sense of purpose he’d drawn from the oath he’d sworn when he joined the Marines: I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
