A British Airways flight was cancelled after crew members reportedly got drunk in a hotel bar hours before the scheduled departure. Flight BA254 from Barbados capital, Bridgetown, to London Heathrow was axed on Sunday, ruining the travel plans of up to 336 passengers. A number of British Airways crew members have been suspended while an investigation is carried out, the Press Association understands. The Sun reported that the crew members involved were engaged in a “vodka and beer session”, with one female cabin crew member vomiting and one of her male colleagues collapsing. The incident happened at an “all-inclusive, ocean-fronted retreat” popular with honeymooners, according to the newspaper, which did not name it. It reported that other guests filmed the crew members, one of whom said: “We’re British Airways crew, what of it?” The flight was due to depart at 4.25pm local time, arriving in the UK at 6.15am on Monday. British Airways said in a statement: “We expect the highest standards of our crew, and we are urgently investigating this matter.” Source link

The European Commission has stepped up its emergency response as wildfires in Portugal and France continue to spread, deploying firefighters, aircraft and other resources through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). Both countries requested European assistance after multiple large fires burned simultaneously across thousands of hectares. The coordinated response has already delivered personnel and aerial firefighting support to help national authorities contain the blazes and protect affected communities. The latest deployments are part of the EU’s largest-ever seasonal wildfire preparedness effort, with hundreds of firefighters and a fleet of aircraft strategically positioned across southern Europe to improve response times during the peak fire season. Aircraft and firefighters sent to affected areas France activated the UCPM on 5 July after several major fires broke out. During a very productive life of more than nine decades, Crews—literary critic and professor emeritus of the University of California Berkeley—became famous twice. The first round, between 1963 and 1965, came after the publication of The Pooh Perplex, an erudite satire that became an unexpected bestseller. The second time, from 1993 onward, came after his explosive article “The Unknown Freud,” which appeared in The New York Review of Books, igniting the so-called Memory Wars and opening up the debate about the true cultural, social, and scientific legacy of Sigmund Freud and the psychoanalytic movement. The incident at Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow on Saturday night caused minor smoke damage to an internal room but no injuries or significant structural damage, the Community Security Trust said. The building is close to a school and children’s playground, and police were seen searching a black SUV nearby on Sunday morning.
