Record Share Of Home Sellers Cut Listing Prices In February: Report

A record share of home sellers cut their listing prices in February as competition for homebuyers necessitated steep price reductions, an April 9 report by real estate platform Redfin said. About 34.2 percent of sellers reduced their listing prices in February, up from 31.5 percent in the same month a year earlier, according to Redfin’s analysis of MLS data. That was the highest February share since the firm began tracking MLS records in 2012. The sellers who cut their listing prices reduced them by an average of $40,915, said Redfin. That amounts to a 7.3 percent cut, the highest for any February since 2023. Final sales prices could include further reductions due to negotiations on such items as closing costs, contingency fees, and other contractual stipulations. “Price cuts are on the rise because it’s a buyer’s market,” said Redfin data journalist Lily Katz and senior economist Yingqi Xu. “There are hundreds of thousands more home sellers in the market than buyers because buyers have been spooked by high mortgage rates, high prices and economic uncertainty. …

Ozark star Linney has been in three Eastwood films – Absolute Power (1997), Mystic River (2003) and Sully (2016) – and they’ve been pleasant experiences for the Oscar-nominated actor. She told The Independent in new interview series Life in Pictures that the 95-year-old’s hesitancy to shout on sets stems from his experiences working on westerns, including the 1960s TV show Rawhide, where making too much noise would alarm the horses on set. Laura Linney reflected on working with Clint Eastwod in new interview (Laura Linney reflected on working with Clint Eastwod) “I learnt an invaluable lesson from – how to relax on set. He only …

DeviantArt Is Helping Artists Cut Through The Noise and Fuel Careers

More than 25 years after its founding, the site has evolved into the internet’s leading platform for artists to grow and monetize their audience. If you spend much time online — especially around Gen Z — you may have noticed that Y2K  internet culture is having a moment. Scrolling fatigue, coupled with a reliable nostalgia factor, has sparked a return to the user-generated, creator-centric format and aesthetics of the Blogosphere and early social media. Launched in 2000, DeviantArt is to many an avatar for this era and synonymous with Web 2.0’s niche subcultures. But in 2026, DeviantArt is more accessible, widely used, and creator-friendly than ever before. After a period of network decline through the 2010s, the platform underwent a multi-year overhaul to modernize its user experience and strengthen its core offerings. As a result, usership has been on a steady rise since 2019; DeviantArt now boasts more than 108 million users worldwide. BBC to Cut Almost One in 10 Staff to Tackle “Financial Pressures”

BBC to Cut Almost One in 10 Staff to Tackle “Financial Pressures”

The BBC is set to slash its workforce by almost one in 10 people. The move, described as the broadcaster’s biggest scaling back in 15 years, is going ahead in a bid to tackle “significant financial pressures.” It’ll mean between 1,800 and 2,000 jobs are cut. Staff were reportedly informed of the news on Wednesday afternoon in an all-staff meeting, with interim director-general Rhodri Talfan Davies expected to confirm the redundancies. The news comes before former Google executive Matt Brittin takes the reins in the top job in early May. The BBC needs to save £500 million ($678 million) over the next two years, and Davies did not rule out axing entire channels or services. “We need to look at everything, and at a scale of £500m inevitably there are going to be some big and some difficult choices, but we do need to step through this carefully,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Media Show on Wednesday. He recognized the cuts would be “really difficult news” for staff. An email sent to all employees from …

BBC to cut up to 2,000 jobs in biggest downsize for 15 years | UK News

The BBC will cut up to 2,000 jobs as part of its biggest downsize in 15 years, according to reports. Staff were told of the news of redundancies during an all-staff call at 3pm on Wednesday but were not given details of who would be affected. The cuts would mark the biggest round of job cuts at the BBC in almost 15 years. They come as the broadcaster attempts to reduce costs by 10% over the next three years. In February, it was revealed it aimed to reduce spending by hundreds of millions of pounds within this timeframe as it continues to face “substantial financial pressures”. The latest cuts, originally reported by the Financial Times, come as former Google boss, Matt Brittin, prepares to take over as director-general next month. JPM Stock Fizzles Despite Blowout Quarter As Key Forecast Cut

JPM Stock Fizzles Despite Blowout Quarter As Key Forecast Cut

One day after Goldman Sachs reported its highest profit in 5 years (despite an ugly miss in FICC revenues), this morning JPMorgan impressed with just as solid results, when it reported that its Q1 profits rose 13% as the bank benefited from soaring market volatility and frantic trading amid the war with Iran and the US military operation in Venezuela. The largest US bank reported net income of $16.5bn, beating analyst estimates of a $15.2bn print, up from $14.6bn a year ago and the bank’s second-best quarter ever. Its best quarter remains the $18.1bn the bank earned in the second quarter of 2024 when JPMorgan benefited from a one-off gain from the sale of its stake in Visa.  One-upping Goldman, JPM reported the best quarter for trading in the bank’s history, boosted by the swings in equity and fixed income markets caused by geopolitical shocks. And unlike Goldman, JPM’s FICC also came in much stronger than expected; in fact at $7.1bn it was the second biggest FICC revenue on record.   The bank reported total trading revenues …

Daniel Slim/AFP via Getty Images hide caption toggle caption Daniel Slim/AFP via Getty Images CHICAGO — How the turf war at O’Hare International Airport started is a matter of debate. American Airlines CEO Robert Isom blames his rival, United Airlines. “Where we were headed in Chicago, due to the reckless scheduling of our competitor, OK, was going to be gridlock,” Isom said at an investors conference in Washington, D.C., last month. United CEO Scott Kirby laughed off that criticism when he got the same question a few hours later. Kirby pointed the finger at American, where he used to work, and said he’s glad the Department of Transportation is stepping in. “The DOT is going to come in and play dad and force us to share,” Kirby said. “And it’s going to all be fine.” Aviation regulators are working to head off a traffic jam this summer at one of the country’s biggest airports. Over 21,000 NHS jobs to be cut by 2028 as ‘morale through the floor’ | UK | News

Over 21,000 NHS jobs to be cut by 2028 as ‘morale through the floor’ | UK | News

At least 21,000 NHS staff at health trusts across England face redundancy by 2028 as employers struggle to balance their finances, according to new research. Public services union Unison revealed its study estimates a minimum of 21,000 positions are set to be axed by 2028 across hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Attempts to satisfy the Government’s requirement for trust budgets to break even from this year are driving workforce reductions throughout hospital, community and mental health services, the union warned. The cuts were uncovered by trusts responding to freedom of information requests submitted by Unison, and are on top of job losses at NHS England and integrated care boards announced last year, it cautioned. The union said its research reveals trusts are planning cuts to roles including nurses and other clinical staff, as well as support post reductions through vacancy freezes, restructuring and reduced use of agency workers. Unison’s head of health Helga Pile said: “Cutting thousands of NHS jobs is the wrong answer when staff are already stretched to breaking point. “The public are …

Trump promised to cut electric costs in half. In energy-rich West Virginia, bills now top mortgages

RAINELLE, W.Va. — Every month, Rebecca Michalski takes a deep breath before opening her electric bill. She lives on a fixed income, and heating her small house this winter has been staggering: Her February charge was $940.08 — more than her check. It makes no sense. She turns the lights off during the day and only burns one lamp with an energy-efficient bulb in the living room at night, but she keeps falling further behind on payments. In desperation, she took out a loan after getting a cut-off notice during an extended arctic blast that kept the state’s heaters cranking when temperatures regularly dipped below zero. “Every time you see that power bill, you’re just sick,” Michalski said, rifling through a stack of statements totaling thousands of dollars. “I already know before I open it. I just dread seeing how much.” She’s taken to social media, demanding answers alongside thousands of other West Virginians, including those who have been posting screenshots of their monthly charges. They are angry and perplexed over soaring utility costs that are sometimes …
