These 3 tweaks made my Steam Deck feel like a tiny PC

The Steam Deck is in a weird place at the moment. Despite the fact it beats every rival because of one thing no Windows handheld can match, this terrific little device is almost impossible to buy at its normal $549 MSRP due to RAMaggeddon. Valve hasn’t been able to restock Decks for months at the time of writing, which makes me feel really lucky to own this palm-friendly system that can also be turned into a decent mini PC. With the revamped Steam Machine delayed for the foreseeable due to RAM shortages, now is a great time to experiment with turning your Deck into a legitimately functional teeny desktop. If you’re willing to pick up a relatively cheap accessory, you can open up a world of exciting software solutions that are so much easier to access with the Steam Deck acting as a mini PC compared to its default handheld mode. The Steam Deck OLED beats every rival because of one thing no Windows handheld can match

The Steam Deck OLED is one of my favorite gaming devices of all time. And I don’t say that lightly — I’ve been playing handhelds since the prehistoric times of 1991 when my granddad bought me a Sega Game Gear. I also loved the OG LCD version of Valve’s teeny PC even if I was using my Steam Deck wrong until I made this one change. Though the likes of the Lenovo Legion Go 2 and ROG Ally X have since far outstripped the Deck in terms of pure horsepower, I still say Valve’s machine is the best handheld PC for most people. Thanks to its ultra-intuitive OS, canny design tweaks and a truly sensational screen, here’s why I wouldn’t swap my Steam Deck OLED for any of its rivals. Related I own 3 PC gaming handhelds, and this is the one I barely use Until Linux gets serious about multiplayer gaming, my Steam Deck will collect dust while I play on my Windows gaming handhelds instead. An incredible OLED screen I’ll always value display …

Warsh on Deck While Powell Remains

Warsh on Deck While Powell Remains

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Trump’s pick to lead the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh, has said he wants to bring “regime change” to the central bank, but if confirmed by the Senate he will find a Fed already transformed by the White House’s attacks. For the first time in almost five decades, there will be a former chair on the central bank’s board, potentially creating an alternate center of power. And on Wednesday multiple officials dissented from the Fed’s statement, a sign they won’t easily roll over for a new chair who has sharply criticized recent policy. Outgoing chair Jerome Powell — who announced he will remain on the board of governors for a “period of time, to be determined” — has also shown a new outspokenness since the White House launched an unprecedented legal investigation into a Fed building renovation. Warsh “is inheriting an institution that will fight for independent, consensus-driven decision-making, a potential obstacle to his vision of wholesale ‘regime change,’” said Jon Hilsenrath, a senior advisor to StoneX and visiting scholar at Duke …

Valve Breaks Silence on Steam Deck 2 Performance Goals

Valve has confirmed that the Steam Deck 2 is in development, but its release is not expected until at least 2028. According to TechAvid, this timeline reflects Valve’s focus on achieving substantial improvements in performance and efficiency rather than opting for smaller, incremental updates. The delay is largely attributed to current hardware limitations, particularly in silicon technology, which falls short of meeting the company’s goals for balancing power and battery life in a portable gaming device. The Steam Deck is more valuable than ever, and that really annoys me

If you buy a piece of consumer technology, then it skyrockets in value well after it initially launched — like a portable PC that can double up as a PS5 — you should go to bed dreaming of sheep perpetually jumping over fences with massive dollar bags under their wooly bits, right? Wrong! In the case of the Steam Deck OLED, I was lucky enough to buy one during its launch week back in mid-November 2023 for its decidedly reasonable MSRP of $649 for the 1GB model. Fast-forward 2.5 years later though, and Valve’s handheld PC would now cost me in excess of $1300 on Amazon. That’s because Steam Decks have been unavailable due to stock shortages on the Steam Store for months at time of writing. And it’s all “RAMaggeddon’s” fault. On behalf of everyone who can’t currently get their hands on a Deck, it makes me angry that global memory shortages have encouraged extortionate third-party prices. I turned my Steam Deck into a portable PS5 with this one app

Do you know how much I like the PlayStation Portal? Enough to keep it for a whole four days before returning Sony’s remote streaming device. Though its DualSense-aping ergonomics are excellent, its lousy LCD screen means I couldn’t justify keeping the expensive, first-party accessory. Sending back the PS Portal has proven to be an even better decision in hindsight, after I recently discovered I could transform my Steam Deck OLED into a portable PlayStation 5. Thanks to one free piece of software that can be installed on the Linux-based handheld in a relatively straightforward fashion, my beloved portable PC can now stream PS5 games in impressive style. Let me show you how you can install said software, and why it’s absolutely worth setting up if you own both a PS5 and a Steam Deck. Steam Deck Tips : Settings, Game Picks, Less Disappointment

Valve’s awesome Steam Deck is a versatile handheld gaming device, but its performance varies depending on the types of games you play. Below Deck Ready highlights that while it can technically run demanding titles like Starfield, these games often push the hardware to its limits, resulting in frame rate drops and longer load times. Understanding these distinctions can help you make the most of your gaming sessions. Formula 1 reshuffles the deck after major regulatory overhaul

Mercedes driver George Russell during pre-season testing at Sakhir, Bahrain, February 20, 2026. HAMAD I MOHAMMED/REUTERS Formula 1 is undergoing a seismic shift. Engine, aerodynamics, chassis, fuel, tires, race strategy – everything is changing in 2026. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has rewritten the rulebook, introducing technical regulations that are ushering Formula 1 into a new era, where drivers’ ability to manage their car’s electric power is becoming crucial. As the 22 drivers line up on Sunday, March 8, in Melbourne, Australia for the first of the season’s 24 Grands Prix (5 am Paris time), it is difficult to pick a favorite after such a comprehensive overhaul. “Everything is new. There’s no possible comparison with the previous generation of cars. For the teams, the learning curve is so steep that it will take several months before things become clear,” said David Sanchez, the technical director at Alpine. “We’re going to see, certainly in the early races, certainly in Melbourne, quite a decent chunk of unpredictability and chaos,” added Bradley Lord, a Mercedes spokesperson and the …

In an amended complaint filed in New York federal court in October and obtained by The Independent, the South African reality star alleged that NBCUniversal “promised him a benign, career-enhancing experience on a documentary-style program, but instead subjected him to a hostile work environment rife with sexual harassment, manipulation, and dangerous conditions — all engineered for television ratings.” Most notably, Kotze claimed that producers “orchestrated” a showmance between him and co-star Raquel “Rocky” Dakota, even though he initially expressed …
