Leaker: This Is Why Apple Is Delaying the iPhone 18

Apple proactively chose to delay the standard iPhone 18 as a deliberate market strategy, the leaker known as “Fixed Focus Digital” claims, with the move said to extend the iPhone 17’s sales window while lowering production costs and improving Apple’s competitive position against Android rivals. In two new posts on Weibo, Fixed Focus Digital said that a downgrade to the ‌iPhone 18‌ standard model was largely inevitable due to global supply chain shortages, and that Apple made the deliberate choice to delay the device rather than rush it to market. By extending the ‌iPhone 17‌’s production cycle and launching a large-scale manufacturing ramp, Apple is said to be using the additional time to let the ‌iPhone 17‌ consolidate market share at the mainstream price tier before its downgraded successor arrives. The leaker said Apple has targeted sufficient ‌iPhone 17‌ supply to participate in China’s Double 11 shopping event later this year. Double 11, also known as Singles’ Day, is one of the world’s largest annual retail sales events and a significant battleground for smartphone market …

Oak trees use delaying tactics to thwart hungry caterpillars

Oak trees use delaying tactics to thwart hungry caterpillars

Two oak trees in the spring, with varying degrees of leaf growth Sven Finnberg If caterpillars have munched through a lot of an oak tree’s leaves one year, then, the following spring, the tree’s buds open three days later. This delay means the caterpillars don’t have food available when they hatch, and so many die, halving how many leaves get eaten. In spring, longer, warmer days drive trees to start growing again, opening buds and unfurling young leaves. Many species time their life cycle to match this, so some caterpillars, for example, hatch when the leaves are new and soft, so they can start eating immediately. Now, Soumen Mallick at the University of Würzburg in Germany and his colleagues have discovered that oak trees have a way to fight back. They analysed the condition of tree canopies in images from Sentinel-1 radar satellites for a 2400-square-kilometre area in the northern Bavaria region of Germany between 2017 and 2021. The forests there are dominated by two species of oak: the pedunculate or English oak (Quercus robur) …

France and Greece call for delaying Covid debt repayment and for more EU bonds – POLITICO

The Greek prime minister was on the same page. “What sense does it make right now to go and repay the Recovery Fund, thereby eating into the budget for the next six years, when we have no reason to do so and when there is strong demand for European bonds that will also make us stronger as a European Union?” said Mitsotakis. Mistotakis and Macron, who lead respectively the most-indebted and third most-indebted countries in the EU, are expected to defend their position in tense negotiations around the EU’s €1.8 trillion multi-annual budget for 2028-2034. The option of rolling over the Recovery Fund debt was mentioned by several EU leaders on Friday during an informal meeting in Cyprus as the EU is due to start repaying €25 billion a year from 2028 on the joint debt it issued to tackle the economic fallout from the Covid pandemic. But frugal countries have pushed back strongly. “This is not going to happen,” one EU diplomat said on the sidelines of the Council meeting. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz …

Research may have found the secret to delaying chronic illness in old age

Get the Well Enough newsletter with Harry Bullmore for tips on living a healthier, happier and longer life Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Imagine two people in their 70s. Both are active, live independently and enjoy life. But over the next 15 years, one of them develops two or three chronic illnesses – heart disease, diabetes, depression – while the other remains relatively healthy. What made the difference? According to our new research, diet may be a key part of the answer. In our new study, our group at the Aging Research Center at the Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, followed more than 2,400 older Swedish adults for 15 years. We found that people who consistently ate a healthy diet developed chronic diseases more slowly, in contrast to those whose diets were considered more inflammatory; that is, diets high in processed meats, refined grains and sugary drinks, which are known to promote low-grade chronic inflammation in the body. This is important because having several health conditions …

OpenAI is delaying its “adult mode” for ChatGPT

OpenAI is delaying its “adult mode” for ChatGPT

Last fall, OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, promised that it would enable an “adult mode” for verified users of the service sometime in the first quarter of 2026. Today, we learned that the service has been delayed. In a brief roundup, independent journalist Alex Heath revealed on his newsletter, Sources, that an OpenAI spokesperson told him that the company was “pushing out the launch of adult mode.” OpenAI stated further that the company wanted to “focus on work that is a higher priority for more users right now,” such as “personality improvements, personalization, and making the experience more proactive.” SEE ALSO: OpenAI updates Department of War deal after backlash The news may disappoint some, as the “adult mode” was allegedly meant to launch in Q1 of this year. Erotica is understood to be a potentially lucrative market for AI, and many people are already relying on generative AI for romantic connections or to find “digital companions” for NSFW chatting. However, there’s also apprehension about the marriage of artificial intelligence and human sexuality, with experts …

Genesis is delaying the ultra-luxe GV90 again

Genesis is delaying the ultra-luxe GV90 again

The GV90 will be the largest, most lavish Genesis vehicle to date. After another delay, the flagship electric SUV won’t be arriving in early 2026 as expected. Why is Genesis delaying the GV90 now? If you were waiting on that “ultra-luxe” full-size electric SUV, as Genesis calls it, you might have to wait a little longer. The GV90 was initially scheduled to go into production at Hyundai Motor’s Ulsan Plant in South Korea by the end of last year, with sales kicking off in early 2026. As part of Hyundai Motor’s product development plan released last May, as reviewed by The Korea Economic Daily, mass production was pushed back until June 2026. The delay is reportedly due to “unresolved technical challenges,” and the recent executive shakeup at Hyundai Motor and Genesis. In December, former Porsche and BMW exec, Manfred Harrer, was promoted to President and head of R&D …
