Apple reportedly testing four designs for upcoming smart glasses

Apple reportedly testing four designs for upcoming smart glasses

Apple plans to sell its first smart glasses in 2027, with a possible unveiling at the end of this year, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Gurman has been reporting steadily on the evolution of the company’s smart glasses strategy, but now he has more details about how they’ll look — he said Apple is testing four designs, and could ultimately launch with some or all of them. Those designs reportedly include a large rectangular frame, a slimmer rectangular frame (similar to the glasses worn by CEO Tim Cook), a larger oval or circular frame, and a smaller oval or circular frame. Apple is also considering different colors including black, ocean blue, and light brown. In some ways, these glasses are a step back from an ambitious plan that once called for Apple to launch a variety of mixed and augmented reality devices — a plan that already stumbled with product delays and the lackluster reception of the Vision Pro. These glasses, meanwhile, sound closer to the Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses. They won’t have any displays, but …

Italian Winemaker Ornellaia Reveals Marina Abramović’s Designs

Ornellaia, the maker of Super Tuscan wines near the medieval town of Bolgheri, has revealed the designs it has commissioned performance artist Marina Abramović to make for its 2023 vintages. Part of the vintner’s Vendemmia d’Artista project, Abramović has created designs for the standard 750ml bottle, as well as its larger 3L, 6L, and 9L bottles. While the 750 ml have a much larger production, Ornellaia only makes 100 bottles in the 3L size, 10 in the 6L, and one in the 9L. Several of these limited-edition bottles with be auctioned in June at Bonhams, with proceeds benefitting the Guggenheim Museum’s upcoming exhibition “Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now,” opening in June. Related Articles Each size has a different work, with the 750ml and the 3L bottles having self-portrait drawings and the 6L a self-portrait photograph. The 9L bottle, however, provides a more conceptual approach, with the label reading: “Marina Abramović Instructions: Slowly drink wine with eyes closed and listen to the music.” In a video about the collaboration, Abramović, who is currently the subject of …

Artist Kyna Payawal designs a window display for Toast’s L.A. store

Artist Kyna Payawal designs a window display for Toast’s L.A. store

This story is part of Image’s March Outside issue, a celebration of the Los Angeles outdoors and the many lives to be lived under its unencumbered sky. In a feat of luck that surprises both visitors and me alike, I live in one of those coveted, mysterious and oxymoronic L.A. neighborhoods: a walkable one. Truthfully (I feel almost guilty saying so), it’s more than walkable; my neighborhood is seemingly oriented around pedestrians rather than just accommodating of them. The main street that intercepts the end of my block is tree-lined and buzzing, with generous sidewalks, gleaming (and respected) crosswalks, and wide windowscapes just begging to be strolled and observed. And yet, it’s rare to find a storefront that compels me to pause and look, as so few display anything other than exactly what is on the racks inside. For her window display at the new Toast store in West Hollywood, artist Kyna Payawal wanted to entice pedestrians to stay and linger. Her installation evokes what is perhaps the quintessential Angeleno celebration of spring: a shared …

5 J.Crew Designs That Defined the Brendon Babenzien Era

5 J.Crew Designs That Defined the Brendon Babenzien Era

After five years as men’s creative director at J.Crew, Brendon Babenzien is leaving the brand to focus on Noah, his own NYC-based label. Over the course of his tenure at the legendary American retailer, Babenzien managed to nod to the tastes of hard-boiled menswear enthusiasts and translate them to the masses—educating everyday shoppers on the virtues of tweed blazers, pleated trousers, and, yes, pants that don’t taper like an ice cream cone. He brought back the iconic oarsman logo, revived the Wallace & Barnes sub-label, and helped open the new men’s flagship store on Bond Street, complete with a coffee bar and the occasional celebrity sit-down. J.Crew has yet to announce a replacement, and we don’t expect Babenzien’s legacy to be erased from its archives—or its store shelves—any time soon. In case you’re worried, though, here are 5 defining pieces we’d familiarize yourself with from his run at J.Crew, a period that left the mass-market stalwart sharper, looser, and far more interesting than how he found it. The Genuinely Viral Chinos… J.Crew Giant-Fit Chino Pant …

MIT professor designs 2026 Winter Olympics torch

Get the Popular Science daily newsletter💡 Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent six days a week. Every Olympic Games has a torch. Every torch has a designer. For the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, that designer is MIT engineer and architect Carlo Ratti.  A winter sports enthusiast, Ratti owns the architectural firm Carlo Ratti Associati and is originally from Turin, Italy—which hosted the Winter Games in 2006. His firm’s work has been featured at numerous international expositions, including the French Pavilion at the Osaka Expo (World’s Fair) in 2025. The Cloud, a 400-foot tall spherical structure, was also a finalist for a special observation deck at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Olympic organizers invited Ratti to design this year’s torch, and he used several of his teaching principles when approaching the project. “It is about what the object or the design is to convey,” Ratti said in a statement. “How it can touch people, how it can relate to people, how it can transmit emotions. That’s the most important thing.” “Essential” …

Jonathan Anderson revives haute couture at Dior with nature-inspired designs

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Jonathan Anderson’s arrival at Dior has been one of the most talked about creative appointments in the fashion industry; from the red carpet gowns worn by Jessie Buckley and Priyanka Chopra at the Golden Globes to his second menswear show which split opinion online. But nothing has been anticipated quite like the Irish designer’s haute couture debut, taking place today at the Musee Rodin in Paris. It is the clearest signal yet of how Anderson plans to reshape one of fashion’s best-known houses, replacing reverence with curiosity and tradition with experimentation. Late last year, Anderson declared how he was “changing couture at Dior”. It seems he’s done just that with his first foray into formal tailoring – not by discarding its codes, but by …
