Comedian Diane Morgan says cheese now ‘smells like socks’ after vegan switch

Get the Well Enough newsletter with Harry Bullmore for tips on living a healthier, happier and longer life Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Get the Well Enough email with Harry Bullmore Comedian Diane Morgan, known for her distinctive deadpan humour, has revealed a surprising personal transformation, embracing a vegan lifestyle that has even altered her perception of cheese – a former culinary love now described as smelling “like socks”. The 50-year-old, currently starring in Last One Laughing on Prime Video, made the switch last January. While she was “never a big milk drinker anyway”, preferring oat milk, cheese proved a significant hurdle. “I couldn’t find a decent vegan cheese that I liked – it all tasted like glue sticks – so I just went cold turkey on it,” she explained. The shift in perception was stark: “Then, after four weeks, my brain just went, ‘Oh, I don’t like cheese anymore, it smells like socks’. So now I don’t crave it at all.” Morgan, who resides in central London, advocates for everyone to …

10 Questions with Diane Kruger

10 Questions with Diane Kruger

Add The Seduction to your watchlist Since its publication in 1782, Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses has been adapted many times, including the 1988 Stephen Frears film, Dangerous Liaisons starring Glenn Close and John Malkovich and, just over a decade later, Cruel Intentions with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe. This decade’s version, The Seduction, helps to launch the new streaming service HBO Max, and is a “freely adapted” prequel that places the secondary character of Madame de Rosemonde, played by German model-turned-actor Diane Kruger at the centre of the drama. An American critic claimed that you were “too beautiful to play a role of any substance”. How did that make you feel? I let that go a long time ago. It was devastating as a young girl to be judged on my exterior rather than the work I was doing. But, you know, life went on! Your first acting job was with Dennis Hopper on the 2002 film The Piano Player. Did he give you any advice? Dennis taught me everything …

Add LOL: Last One Laughing UK to your watchlist You’ve always kept a straight face as the deadpan Philomena Cunk. Did you draw on that experience? Yeah, I thought, “Look, I’ve had loads of training here.” It’s not just when you’re talking to the experts where you have to keep a straight face, it’s for the whole  shoot, whatever happens. So I went in there thinking, “This is going to be easy.” But it wasn’t! What makes you laugh the most in real life? People falling over and hurting themselves. There’s nothing funnier than that. Have you ever done a gig where no one laughed? I did stand-up for nearly 10 years and you have to get used to being on stage and having people just staring at you. It really helps on this show if you’ve had a stand-up background, and you’ve been forced to stand in front of people in silence. I quite like an awkward silence now. I sort of revel in it. What’s the most you’ve ever laughed? I once wet …

Diane von Furstenberg’s Annual Female Nominees Academy Award Lunch Brings Together Oscars Hopefuls and Bonafide Movie Stars

Diane von Furstenberg’s Annual Female Nominees Academy Award Lunch Brings Together Oscars Hopefuls and Bonafide Movie Stars

There is a certain assumption made about ladies who lunch—being, well, that they have the idle time for a languorous activity like a multi-course meal middle-of-the-day. (Often with wine.) And at Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg’s Trousdale Estates home in Beverly Hills, there were, yes, women enjoying a fantastic lunch—salmon, chicken salad, chickpeas and beets, and these delicious little pastry things made with Meyer lemon—with fantastic wine (never turn down a white Burgundy.) Yet aimless guests they were not: in fact, dozens of them will be up for an Academy Award on Sunday. The Belgian designer has thrown a picnic lunch honoring the female Oscar nominees for the past eleven years. It’s become somewhat of a staple on the see-and-be-seen awards-season circuit. But while many events focus on getting the buzzy, cloutiest names on their guest list, von Furstenberg’s guest list is curated by accomplishment. You’ll see bonafide movie stars there, sure. But you’ll also meet the directors of critically acclaimed short films, or producers of a social justice documentary. And the most impressive …

Diane Sindall: Family of murder victim appeal for information after wrongful conviction | UK News

The family of a woman who was murdered almost 40 years ago have appealed for people to come forward with information after DNA evidence showed the man believed to be her killer was wrongfully convicted. Diane Sindall, 21, was raped and murdered by a killer dubbed the “Beast of Birkenhead” in Wirral, Merseyside, in the early hours of 2 August 1986. For decades, investigators from Merseyside Police thought they had caught her killer: a local man called Peter Sullivan. Mr Sullivan, 68, had always maintained his innocence, and he was freed last year after new tests showed his DNA – unearthed due to scientific advances – was not present in semen samples collected at the scene. By the time his conviction was overturned, Mr Sullivan had spent 38 years in prison. It is the longest miscarriage of justice in UK history. Ms Sindall’s family’s appeal on Crimewatch Live is their first statement since the conviction was quashed. Image: Peter Sullivan spent 38 years in jail for the killing before he was freed last year. ‘I was mesmerised by Kate Bush and the Smurfs, so I had great taste’: Diane Morgan’s honest playlist | Diane Morgan

The first song I fell in love withBaggy Trousers by Madness. I remember thinking it was the most brilliant thing I’d ever heard, partly because there was a man in huge trousers suspended from the ceiling playing a saxophone on Top of the Pops. That probably helped. It was hilarious! The first single I boughtThe Smurfs? I think I just asked for it rather than went out and bought it myself because I was three. Apparently I was mesmerised by both Kate Bush and the Smurfs, so I had great taste in music. The first single I bought with my own pocket money was probably I Should Be So Lucky, because I hadn’t become acquainted with the Fall yet. The song I inexplicably know every lyric toIt’s weird when lyrics you don’t particularly like find their way into your memory. I know more music hall songs than I should for my age, because we were forced to sing them in drama school. I also remember the lyrics to the Hold a Chicken in the Air song from Spitting …

Diane Warren Performs Medley of Oscar-Nominated Songs and ‘Dear Me’

Diane Warren Performs Medley of Oscar-Nominated Songs and ‘Dear Me’

“Dear Me” is the name of the original song for which the legendary songwriter Diane Warren is Oscar-nominated this year — but it’s also what she says she thought, with a little bit of exasperation, when she sat down to record the medley, posted below, of all 17 songs for which she’s been nominated over the course of her career, as that is quite a lot of tunes to have written and to have to remember! The tune, which Warren wrote for and is featured in Bess Kargman’s documentary Diane Warren: Relentless, extends the songwriter’s undesirable records for most noms in that Oscar category without a win and most noms for a woman in any Oscar category without a win. (Warren did receive an honorary statuette from the Academy in 2022, but it’s just not the same thing!) It’s also her ninth consecutive nom in the category, and eleventh nom in 12 years. Given that Warren is a perennial bridesmaid, one might assume that the 69-year-old Van Nuys native is disliked by her peers, but the …

12 Clever Ways To Store Books Without A Single Bookshelf | Diane Quintana

12 Clever Ways To Store Books Without A Single Bookshelf | Diane Quintana

If you want to learn how to organize and store books without a bookshelf, it starts with a little creativity. I’ve been in love with books ever since I could sit still long enough to listen to a story. I’ve collected a wide variety of books and truly enjoy sharing my collection with family and friends. Over the years, I’ve reduced my book collection so that they fit on the few bookshelves in my home. But no matter how many books you have, you typically want a place to display them. The mere presence of books in your home has real benefits. A two-decade-long study discovered that having books visible around the house increases vocabulary development, attention, and even job success later in life. The most logical place is a bookshelf. What do you do if you love books and have a large collection of them, but don’t have a bookshelf? There’s no need to go shopping. You just have to get a little creative with your organizing strategy and repurpose empty, unused spaces in …

People Who Never Seem Frazzled Usually Do These 5 Things Before 10 A.M. | Diane Quintana

Are you feeling out of sorts? You know, sort of blah? Well, you’ve probably already realized that you are not alone. Many of us are feeling that way right now. One day sort of blends into the next. There is not a whole lot to distinguish one day from another. Some people seem to glide through their days with calm, Monk-like energy, while the rest of us are scrambling to catch up. The difference often comes down to what happens in those first few hours of the morning. These five simple habits take less than 10 minutes each, but they set up the entire day for success. People who never seem frazzled do these 5 things before 10 am: 1. They make their bed Set your alarm, get up, and get moving. Recently, I read a fabulous little book called Make Your Bed by Admiral William H. McRaven. He asserts that when you start your day by making your bed, you have accomplished one task. Even if this is the only task you accomplish in the …
