Why Prince Edward is the perfect antidote to his disgraced brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

Why Prince Edward is the perfect antidote to his disgraced brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

I have just got back from Portugal after a whirlwind three days with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and thought I’d share some of my thoughts with you. I have been on a few overseas royal tours in my time, including with Prince William and Kate and with the King and Queen, whom I joined in Australia in 2023. But this trip was different. While the King travels with a huge entourage and has dozens of members of the press in tow, Prince Edward and Sophie’s trip was far more low-key, and gave me a chance to observe them up close – something I haven’t had an opportunity to do so before. I was one of a very small handful of media who joined this tour, so rather than travelling around on a fleet of buses with writers, photographers and camera crews, we were ferried around in a people carrier and followed the royal couple in convoy – led by police outriders – as they travelled between engagements. King Charles makes surprise Bank Holiday trip to Sandringham just miles from disgraced brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

The King is spending time at Sandringham over the Bank Holiday weekend, but will not be visiting his disgraced brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, HELLO! understands.  Charles, 77, reportedly arrived at Wood Farm Cottage at his Norfolk residence on Sunday, the same secluded property where Andrew was temporarily housed after his exit from Royal Lodge in Windsor.  Andrew is now at the five-bedroom farmhouse, Marsh Farm, which has been renovated over the past few months, including extra security measures being installed ahead of his arrival.  However, HELLO! understands that the King will not be paying a visit to his brother and is in Sandringham for a few days of “private time” away from royal engagements.  Recommended videoYou may also likeWATCH: King Charles brotherly moment with Edward Charles stripped Andrew of his remaining styles and titles last October, meaning he is no longer known as “prince” or “Duke of York”. Disgraced newsreader Huw Edwards reportedly set to ‘state his case’ in new Channel 4 series

Disgraced newsreader Huw Edwards will “state his case” in a new Channel 4 series, according to reports. The news comes after it was claimed Edwards had enlisted a publicist and was reportedly planning a comeback after Britain’s one-time highest-paid news anchor pleaded guilty, in 2024, to receiving and making indecent images of children. According to The Times, Channel 4 will air Edwards’s version of events, which one employee has allegedly described as “a desperate publicity stunt”. The channel is already facing criticism this week after allegations of rape made by Married at First Sight UK contestants. Huw Edwards intends to make his own documentary or podcast (Lucy North/PA) (PA Wire) The Independent has contacted Channel 4 for comment. In March, Edwards put out a statement condemning a Channel 5 drama about the scandal, starring Martin Clunes, and shared that he planned to produce his “own account of these terrible events”. To prepare for his reported return to show business, Edwards is working with publicist Barry Tomes, who has accepted the role on a volunteer basis. Tomes, …

Bombshell moment Starmer refuses to deny lobbying for second disgraced job | Politics | News

Sir Keir Starmer has refused to deny that Downing Street tried to give another disgraced peer a top diplomatic job. Former Foreign Office chief Sir Olly Robbins said on Tuesday that No 10 wanted him to look at “available head of mission jobs” for Lord Doyle, a former Downing Street director of communications who was later suspended from the Labour Party over his links to a convicted paedophile. At Prime Minister’s Questions, Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey asked whether the PM knew his office was lobbying for an ambassadorial role for Lord Doyle and whether they were doing it on his authority. Sir Keir told MPs: “Matthew Doyle worked for many years in public service for me as Prime Minister and other ministers. “When people leave roles in any organisation, there are very often conversations about other roles they may want to apply for. In this case, nothing came of it.” Sir Ed replied: “The House and the public watching will note the Prime Minister failed to answer my question.” Sir Olly said that …

While playing a word association game in a Forbes interview published Wednesday, Usher said that “legacy” came to mind when he thought of Combs, who is currently serving a 50-month sentence after he was convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution following a bombshell eight-week trial last summer. The “Yeah!” singer said that although his opinion “might be controversial,” the influence that Combs, 56, created through his business empire was undeniable. “In many ways, I think certain people are prosecuted and maybe not recognized for the greatness that they offer,” Usher, 47, said. “I don’t have anything negative to say about Sean Combs because my experience was not what the world has seen and how he’s been misrepresented.” He continued: “I’m not saying that every man is perfect. Disgraced Peter Mandelson demanded over £500,000 payout from taxpayers | Politics | News

Peter Mandelson demanded a payout of more than £500,000 after being sacked in disgrace from his role as US ambassador. And while Sir Keir Starmer’s Government refused to pay such a large sum, it did hand the former Labour politician £75,000. The sums are revealed in newly released files that the Government was forced to publish, showing details of Lord Mandelson’s appointment as ambassador to the US and his dismissal. The peer was told to leave Washington after it became clear he had remained close to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein even after the financier’s first conviction. A memo from civil servant Alice McCullough confirms an “agreement to pay the settlement of £75,000 within seven days of the agreed termination date”. The payment included £40,329.50 in lieu of notice and a special severance payment of £34,670.50, with the first £30,000 exempt from income tax. The note dated October 13, 2025, apparently sent to Lord Mandelson’s lawyers, stated: “It is in both parties’ interest to conclude this as quickly as possible and have therefore proposed a termination …

Judge blocks discovery motion in disgraced sheriff Marcos Lopez case

Judge blocks discovery motion in disgraced sheriff Marcos Lopez case

The judge ruling on suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez‘s case has denied a motion to compel discovery as the proceedings continue. On Thursday, February 5, a Florida judge denied a motion from the defense team of Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez to compel the prosecution to provide discovery in the illegal gambling case. Lopez is charged with using his influence as sheriff to collect more than $600,000 in unlawful payments while operating Eclipse Social Club, a now-closed illegal gaming room in Kissimmee where customers could use unlicensed slot machines and other illegal gambling devices. The investigation has already led to the sheriff’s suspension. Florida sheriff Marcos Lopez was arrested after casino raids exposed illegal gambling operation. Credit: Homeland Security Tampa Although the judge denied the discovery motion, the defense and prosecution came to an agreement to have the statewide prosecutor’s office send a representative to the defense to access the evidence. “It’s voluminous, the discovery,” defense attorney Migdalia told Click Orlando. “We may need to go there with terabytes and whatnot. It may be …
