Did You Miss Zendaya’s Disney Channel Reunion in Euphoria Season 3?

Did You Miss Zendaya’s Disney Channel Reunion in Euphoria Season 3?

The Euphoria cast weren’t the only ones who reunited for the new season of the hit HBO drama. During season three, episode two, titled “America My Dream,” Zendaya shared the screen again with her former onscreen father, Kadeem Hardison. However, this time, it’s safe to say the setting was much less kid-friendly. Zendaya and Hardison first starred together in the Disney Channel show, K.C. Undercover, which ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2018. In the series, the Emmy winner plays K.C. Cooper, a high school technology wiz and karate black-belt who discovers that both her parents are secret spies and expect her to follow in their footsteps. Hardison plays her dad, Craig Cooper. In Euphoria season three, Hardison plays Big Eddy, who helps manage operations at Alamo Brown’s (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) Silver Slipper strip club. Bob Iger rejoins Thrive Capital as advisor after Disney exit

Bob Iger is returning to Thrive Capital as an advisor, just one month after stepping down as CEO of Disney, a role he held for nearly two decades. Iger previously served a two-month stint as a venture partner at the firm in late 2022, but left when the Disney board asked him to retake the helm of the media conglomerate, following his initial departure from the company in 2020. “Bob leads with boldness and conviction because he knows what he is building and why. He is rejoining Thrive at a time when that kind of leadership matters most,” Thrive’s founder Josh Kushner posted on X. Iger, who already owns a stake in the firm, will work with Thrive’s investment staff and portfolio founders, the Wall Street Journal reported. However, his advisory role will likely not require a full-time commitment. Thrive manages over $50 billion in assets, according to PitchBook. In February, the firm announced that it raised $10 billion in capital commitments for its 10th fund, the largest in the firm’s 17-year history. Thrive holds …

Disney+ Inks Development Deal of Japanese Live-Action Originals

Disney+ is making moves to boost its output of live-action originals from Japan, a longstanding ambition for the company’s Asia-Pacific content team that has been given greater urgency as the House of Mouse works to grow its streaming business worldwide. The company unveiled a multi-year development deal on Tuesday with Tokyo-based production company The Seven, one of Netflix’s most frequent partners on Japanese-language films and series. Disney described the deal as a “long-term, ongoing content development collaboration.” The duration of the pact was not disclosed, nor were financial details. “Since the launch of Disney+ in Japan, general entertainment and local originals have become an increasingly important part of our content offering, making this collaboration a natural evolution in accelerating our content investment,” said Carol Choi, Disney’s executive vp of original content strategy in APAC. “It builds on the strong relationships we’ve developed over time and represents a meaningful step forward in deepening our storytelling roots in Japan,” she added. The bluesy opening riff of her No 1 track “Mercy” – followed by those distinctive “yeah, yeah, yeahs” – was utterly ubiquitous; so were the rest of the retro-tinged singles from her multi-platinum debut album Rockferry, the best-selling UK record of 2008. She had a slew of Brit awards to her name, and was talked about in the same breath as Amy Winehouse and Adele. But just a couple of years later, after a muted response to her follow-up album, this fast-rising star seemed to all but vanish. New music never materialised. She stopped attending showbiz events. Dedicated fans and casual listeners alike wondered what had happened to the young talent who had been dubbed a modern-day Dusty Springfield. Had she grown tired of the industry …

‘Perfect Crown’ Scores Disney+’s Biggest K-Drama Debut to Date

Perfect Crown is Disney‘s new streaming king in the Korean drama category. The smash-hit rom-com, which launched on Disney+ on April 10, has achieved the platform’s biggest-ever viewership for a Korean series within five days of launch. Disney+ announced the record on Thursday but declined to release specific viewership figures, saying only that Perfect Crown has become the No. 1 most-viewed Korean series premiere on the platform globally. The series — which also airs domestically on MBC in Korea’s coveted Friday-Saturday prime-time slot — is set in an alternate-reality version of modern South Korea where the country remains a constitutional monarchy. Pop-star-turned-actress IU stars as Seong Hui-ju, the sharp-elbowed heir to a major Korean conglomerate whose commoner status grates against her ambition. Byeon Woo-seok plays Grand Prince I-AN, the king’s second son, whose royal title comes with little else. When mounting pressures push the two into a marriage of convenience, the arrangement proves harder to keep strictly transactional than either of them planned. Disney Layoffs Hit Studios, TV, ESPN Under New CEO Josh D’Amaro

Disney Layoffs Hit Studios, TV, ESPN Under New CEO Josh D’Amaro

Layoffs are hitting The Walt Disney Co., beginning Tuesday. CEO Josh D’Amaro, only a month into the job, informed staff of the cuts in a memo. A source familiar with the matter tells The Hollywood Reporter that around 1,000 jobs are expected to be eliminated. Cuts are expected in the company’s unified marketing organization under Asad Ayaz, which Disney announced in January, as well as in its studios and TV businesses, ESPN, product & technology, and certain corporate functions. The unified marketing structure brought all of Disney’s sprawling marketing apparatus, from films, TV and ESPN to streaming and theme parks, into one group. The company is said to be shifting more resources to other strategic priorities, especially given the rapid changes facing the entertainment business. “Over the past several months, we have looked at ways in which we can streamline our operations in various parts of the company to ensure we deliver the world-class creativity and innovation our fans value and expect from Disney,” D’Amaro wrote in his memo. “Given the fast-moving pace of our …
