Already more than 130 people have been killed, with over 500 more cases detected. John Johnson is vaccination and epidemic response advisor at MSF and is due to fly to DR Congo on Thursday. He explained that part of the problem is that tests had been carried out for a more common strain of Ebola, so they were coming back negative. Ebola: DR Congo death toll rises sharply to at least 131, WHO to host emergency meeting

Ebola: DR Congo death toll rises sharply to at least 131, WHO to host emergency meeting

The toll from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has risen to an estimated 131 deaths from 513 suspected cases, Health Minister Samuel Roger Kamba said. “We have recorded roughly 131 deaths in total and we have around 513 suspected cases,” Samuel Roger Kamba told Congolese national television overnight. He cautioned however that the toll was an estimate and further research was needed to confirm whether all 131 suspected deaths were indeed linked to Ebola. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has declared the outbreak a Continental Public Health Emergency, in a statement late Monday. Declaring a continental emergency empowers the Africa CDC, based in Ethiopia, to mobilise extra resources including emergency response teams and surveillance operations.  To display this content from YouTube, you must enable advertisement tracking and audience measurement. No vaccine for new highly lethal Ebola outbreak, DR Congo warns, as death toll hits 80

No vaccine for new highly lethal Ebola outbreak, DR Congo warns, as death toll hits 80

A new Ebola outbreak in DR Congo that has caused scores of deaths has a “very high lethality rate” and no vaccine nor specific treatment, the country’s health minister warned Saturday. “The Bundibugyo strain has no vaccine, no specific treatment,” Samuel-Roger Kamba told a press briefing in Kinshasa. “This strain has a very high lethality rate which can reach 50 percent,” Kamba said. Earlier Saturday, ministry officials said the death toll had already reached 80, up from 65 initially reported the previous day. The strain has also claimed one life in neighbouring Uganda, officials said Saturday, that of a DR Congo national. That correlated with an announcement late Friday by Uganda’s health ministry, which said a 59-year-old man from the DR Congo had died in Kampala after being admitted earlier in the week. His body was repatriated the same day.  Tests showed the victim in Uganda was infected with the Bundibugyo strain, first identified in 2007. ‘M23 and Rwanda’ to blame for latest violence in DR Congo: US senior adviser for Africa – Tête à tête

In an interview with FRANCE 24, US Senior Adviser for Africa Massad Boulos blamed “the M23 and Rwanda” for the latest violence in DR Congo, calling it a “serious breach” of the Washington accord signed in 2025. The US was “extremely disappointed” by the M23 takeover of Uvira, he said, although M23 forces have since partially withdrawn. Boulos did not rule out US sanctions against Rwandan President Paul Kagame, adding that he still “hopes” the Rwandan leader can be trusted. Source link

The water there sustains the lives of millions of people across nine different countries. Photographer Hugh Kinsella Cunningham has spent years taking the images for his newest collection, and they’ve just gone on display at the Galerie Angalia in Paris. By: Video by: Source link
