I enabled one developer option and my Android phone stopped draining battery overnight

My Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has been my go-to secondary phone for quite a while now, but there was one thing about it that drove me crazy. I’d plug it in before bed, make sure it hit 100%, leave it untouched on my bedside table, and somehow wake up to find the battery had already dropped to around 94% by morning. At first, I brushed it off. But after getting tired of seeing the same thing happen every morning, I started digging around for a fix. That’s when I came across a toggle tucked away in Developer options. I turned on Suspend execution for cached apps, and the difference was quite noticeable. My phone finally started holding its charge overnight the way I’d always expected it to. Related I checked my Samsung’s battery settings and found 7 apps draining it in the background The biggest battery hogs weren’t what I expected. ‘Rush Project at Request of POTUS’: Trump Is Draining the National Parks to Pay for His Projects

‘Rush Project at Request of POTUS’: Trump Is Draining the National Parks to Pay for His Projects

The pathway that connects the White House residence to the Oval Office has long been paved in Tennessee flagstone. Every president since Harry Truman made the 45-second commute, and made it without complaint, until Donald Trump. The dun rock would not do. Instead, Trump wanted polished African granite, carved in Italy, with a flamed-finish stripe—slightly raised, to prevent slips—running down the middle. As workers tore up the flagstone in March, a reporter asked Trump who was paying for the enhancements. “Paid for by me,” he replied. But that wasn’t true. Budget documents from the National Park Service that I obtained show that the walkway replacement cost taxpayers $689,232, and is part of a $1.3 million project that included repairing adjacent stone and masonry and providing new hardware for nearby doors. A year earlier, in a separate “Rush project at request of POTUS,” the Park Service spent $347,503 to remove and replace the stucco on the colonnade wall, a project that cleared the way for Trump to affix gold frames and plaques mocking some of his …

What really went wrong with Trump’s Reflecting Pool – and why draining it won’t work

Trying to kill algae with chemicals is a common response when community ponds or other water features go green. But as a scientist who studies freshwater ecology, I can tell you there are better solutions that cost far less, last longer and carry less risk of harm to pets and wildlife. Rather than battling against nature, these alternatives work with nature for long-term solutions. What went wrong on the National Mall The algal bloom that turned the Reflecting Pool a vibrant green shouldn’t have been a surprise. The pool is big, more than a third of a mile long and around 165 feet wide. But it’s shallow, meaning it …

Phone battery draining fast? Malware is one of 8 possible factors – how to tell for sure

Identifying the reasons for deteriorating battery life can be challenging Sometimes the culprit is malware: How to identify and remove it. Lately, is your smartphone consuming more power more quickly, and your battery life deteriorating? Could malware be responsible? OK, let’s take a deep breath. Before we walk you through the steps to investigate and fix a malware problem on your phone, let’s look at some other possible culprits behind your power issue. Batteries age, get damaged, and become less efficient as we repeatedly charge and drain them. At first glance, high power consumption and a steep drop in the number of hours a full charge lasts might raise the alarm that something is on your smartphone that shouldn’t be there. Mobile malware is designed to stay hidden, which means your phone battery could be dying as malicious software quietly drains your power without any signs, notifications, or …

If Your iPhone Battery’s Draining Faster After iOS 26.5, Don’t Panic

If Your iPhone Battery’s Draining Faster After iOS 26.5, Don’t Panic

Apple released iOS 26.5 on May 11, and the update brings end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging to your iPhone, as well as dozens of bug fixes. After you download the update, it might seem like your iPhone’s battery is draining faster than usual, but don’t worry. Apple wrote online that this is normal and — most important — temporary. Apple released a statement in September 2025, saying if your iPhone battery drains quickly after downloading an update, it’s nothing to worry about. “This is normal, as your device needs time to complete the setup process in the background, including indexing data and files for search, downloading new assets, and updating apps,” Apple wrote in a support page. “Immediately after completing an update, particularly a major release, you might notice a temporary impact on battery life and thermal performance.” But your personal iPhone use could be contributing to battery drain, too. Apple said some features might need more resources to function, so depending on how much you use your iPhone, you might “notice a small impact on performance and/or battery …

Situationships Aren’t Casual, They’re Draining

Situationships Aren’t Casual, They’re Draining

For years, ambiguity has shaped modern dating. Situationships—unlabeled relationships without clear direction—often show up in the space between dating apps, casual texting, and the familiar “we’re just seeing where it goes” conversation. They’re often framed as freedom: No pressure, no expectations, and plenty of room for things to unfold naturally. For many people, however, that freedom doesn’t feel like ease. It feels like uncertainty that never fully shuts off. If you’re in a situationship and you want more, you might notice yourself constantly checking your phone, leaving intentional gaps in your schedule just in case they reach out, or thinking about them more than you expected to. If you’re on the other side—wanting to keep things casual—you might feel something different: pressure creeping in, or a quiet sense of being overwhelmed by someone else’s need for reassurance. What’s labeled as casual rarely stays neutral. Instead of creating space, ambiguity tends to create mental engagement. You don’t experience the relationship; you start tracking it. A message left on “seen,” a shift in response time, a text …

Android’s hidden memory monitor shows which apps are secretly draining your RAM

Android’s hidden memory monitor shows which apps are secretly draining your RAM

I opened Developer options on my Pixel 9 looking for something else entirely and stumbled across a Memory section I’d never noticed before. With just a few taps, I was looking at a full breakdown of which apps had been using RAM over the past 12 hours. I’ll never need a third-party app to discover memory use again. Android has included a built-in memory monitor since Android 6.0 Marshmallow, though it moved into Developer options starting in Android 8 Oreo, which is probably why most people have never seen it. The Memory section shows off stats like average memory usage, memory performance, total memory available, average memory used, how much free memory is available and how much each app uses. Now, Android is pretty good at managing memory (as is iOS), which is likely why this feature is hidden back in the Developer options area, but if your phone is having issues (or if you’re just curious what’s actually running on your phone), this is where to look.
