Hollywood Production Canada Rebounded 2025 From Dual Strikes Impact

U.S. film and TV production in Canada rebounded in 2025 as the local industry finally put the devastating impact of Hollywood’s year of strikes in 2023 in the rearview mirror. The latest annual economic report from the Canadian Media Producers Association, representing local indie producers, points to foreign location and service production in Canada, mostly by American producers, rising 9.5 percent to CAN$5.32 billion (US$3.9 billion, compared to a year-earlier CAN$4.86 billion. That production activity includes visual effects work done by Canadian VFX studios for foreign films and TV series. Hollywood production growth was due mainly to TV series production rising 12.1 percent to CAN$3.42 billion (US$2.51 million) and the total volume of other foreign production – including TV movies, specials, pilots and single-episode shoots — increasing by 54.4 percent to CAN$366 million (US$268.2 million). The overall increase in Hollywood TV production last year offset a 2.2 percent fall in foreign movie production across Canada. The major American players active north of the U.S. border continues to be led by Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ …

Canada tweaks dual citizenship rule, allowing all generations to apply

Pledging allegiance to ice hockey, Celine Dion and poutine has just become easier for U.S. citizens. Late last year, the Canadian government amended the Citizenship Act to grant Canadian citizenship to a wider pool of people seeking dual citizenship through their family lineage. Before the revised law went into effect on Dec. 15, the country limited Canadian citizenship to the first-generation children of a Canadian parent. Now, all generations who were born outside of Canada and have direct Canadian ancestry can become Canadian citizens, as long as they possess the correct documents and fall within the correct legal provisions. Rivian is phasing out R1S Dual Standard, its most affordable SUV

Rivian is phasing out R1S Dual Standard, its most affordable SUV

According to an email sent to Rivian subscribers yesterday, the American automaker is sunsetting the Standard trim of its flagship R1S SUV. The end is imminent for Rivian’s most affordable R1S model, but the automaker says its exit will pave the way for a new “refined lineup” of EVs… Plus the R2 is about to arrive, The Rivian R1S Standard, albeit short-lived, represents a lot of Rivian’s growth (and success) over the past five years or so. While the initial rollout of Gen 1 Rivian EVs like the R1S and R1T found early success, Rivian was going through some growing pains in evolving a production process from scratch, in a revamped production facility nonetheless, as a opposed to the blank slate, purpose-built facility it is erecting in Georgia. The R1S Dual Standard emerged as part of a second generation of Rivian EVs, showcasing the young automaker’s innovation through “Enduro” motors and the integration of LFP battery chemistry (enabling you to charge to 100% every night). Now, two years later, Rivian announced it is phasing out …

Dual nationals who don’t have British passport could be denied UK entry | UK News

Dual nationals who don’t have British passport could be denied UK entry | UK News

British dual nationals who don’t have a British passport could be stopped from entering the UK under new rules coming into force from today. British dual nationals will no longer be able to enter the UK using only a foreign passport, as the government starts enforcing its Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme. To board a flight, they must present a valid British passport or a Certificate of Entitlement – which costs £589 – or risk being denied boarding. Travellers face being blocked from boarding their flight, ferry or train if they don’t have one of these. Although British and Irish citizens are exempt from applying for an ETA, airlines must now check passengers have the correct documentation before departure. Non-visa nationals from 85 countries must also have an ETA before travelling, as part of the government’s move towards a fully digital border system. British and Irish citizens have the right to live in the UK, although they must prove this right when entering at the border. Dual nationals used to be able to travel on …

UK’s new passport rules for dual citizens are a result of border control in the digital age

UK’s new passport rules for dual citizens are a result of border control in the digital age

From February 2026, most dual British citizens will need to use a British passport to travel to the UK. Presenting only a non-British passport will no longer be sufficient for boarding flights or ferries, unless it carries a certificate (costing £589) that confirms right of abode. The rule was introduced to align dual nationals with the UK’s new electronic travel authorisation (ETA) system and to prevent confusion in border checks. In legal terms, nothing fundamental has changed. British citizens still have the right to enter and live in the UK. But in practice, the way that right must be demonstrated has shifted. And that shift tells us something important about how citizenship is being reshaped in the digital age. Over the past three decades, dual citizenship has become widely accepted internationally. In 1990, fewer than a third of countries allowed dual nationality in cases of naturalisation. By 2016, roughly three-quarters did. This change reflected globalisation. As populations became more mobile, states adapted. Migrants often maintain attachments to more than one country. Dual citizenship is a …

Freestyle skiing-Australia’s Anthony earns redemption with dual moguls gold

LIVIGNO, Italy, Feb 14 : Australia’s Jakara Anthony won the gold medal in the women’s freestyle skiing dual moguls at the Winter Olympics on Saturday, redeeming herself after a disappointing loss three days earlier in the single-format moguls.  Anthony, 27, became the first Australian to earn two Winter Olympics gold medals when she overtook American Jaelin Kauf under heavy snow in the northern Italian town of Livigno. Kauf earned silver, and bronze went to fellow American Elizabeth Lemley. “This one is really different to the last one because I picked this up after the heartbreak of the other day,” Anthony said of her new medal. Dual moguls is a new sport at the Olympics, pitting skiers together in a head-to-head elimination format in which two competitors race side-by-side through parallel bump fields. Speed counts, but so do turns and aerial manoeuvres.  Anthony crossed the finish line a fraction of a second before Kauf but had to wait for the judges’ final assessment. She smiled and pumped her arms in the air when she saw she …
