Amen Thompson Sparks Rockets’ 115-96 Rout to Stave off Elimination Against Lakers

HOUSTON (AP) — Amen Thompson scored 23 points, Tari Eason added 20 and the Houston Rockets avoided elimination with a 115-96 rout of the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of the Western Conference playoff series Sunday night. Game 5 is Wednesday night in Los Angeles. The Rockets got their first win in the series after falling into an 0-3 hole despite missing Kevin Durant for a third game thanks to a balanced scoring attack. Durant sat out a second straight game with a sprained left ankle after missing Game 1 with a bruised right knee. Houston’s entire starting lineup scored at least 16 points with Alperen Sengun adding 19, Reed Sheppard 17 and Jabari Smith Jr. 16. The Lakers were led by Deandre Ayton, who had 19 points and 10 rebounds before being ejected with about 5½ minutes left in the third quarter for a flagrant foul 2 on a hit to Sengun’s head. His output wasn’t nearly enough to allow the Lakers to close the series out on a night when LeBron James …

Kevin Durant Improving but Game 4 Status Vs. Lakers Unclear as Rockets Face Elimination, Udoka Says

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston coach Ime Udoka said Saturday that injured star Kevin Durant was doing better but his status for Game 4 against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night was still unclear with the Rockets facing elimination. “He’s getting treatment still around the clock,” Udoka said. “I think there’s some soreness and (he’s) pushed a lot of swelling out, but it’ll be a matter of if he can go. We’ll try it out I’m sure tomorrow morning and before the game, and we’ll know his status then.” Udoka was asked how likely he believes it is that Durant will play Sunday as the Rockets try to avoid being swept in the best-of-seven Western Conference series. “Every day that goes by, the likelihood goes up,” he said. “But I thought he might be OK (Friday) based on shootaround and that’s different going half speed and then ramping it up right before a game. And so you really can’t tell, but he’s doing everything he can to get back.” Durant missed the opener of the …

Finn Bálor talks WWE Elimination Chamber – and if the Demon will return

WWE Superstar Finn Bálor wants to use his upcoming match against CM Punk to “rewrite the narrative” of his career – and remove the “stain” of a title abdication that has haunted him for almost 10 years. Nearly a decade since a shoulder injury forced him to relinquish the WWE Universal Championship just 24 hours after winning the title, Bálor will go up against Punk – the current World Heavyweight Champion – at Saturday’s Elimination Chamber event in Punk’s hometown of Chicago. “I feel like it’s time to to rewrite the narrative,” Bálor told Radio Times. “For 10 years, people have been saying, ‘What if? What if he didn’t get hurt? What if he remained champion? What if he didn’t have to relinquish the title? And I feel like, no matter what I’ve done over the last 10 years – be it win multiple Intercontinental Championships, go back to NXT to win the Championship, a United States Championship, multiple Tag Team Championships – no matter how hard I try to remove this little stain from …

The U.S. is on the brink of losing its elimination status for measles : NPR

A measles vaccination clinic at the Andrews County Health Department in Texas last year. Annie Rice/AP hide caption toggle caption Annie Rice/AP The measles outbreak in South Carolina is showing little sign of slowing down. The state has confirmed 847 cases since the first case was reported in October, making the outbreak bigger than the one in Texas, which started just over a year ago. Dr. Linda Bell, South Carolina’s state epidemiologist, points out that in Texas, measles cases grew over the course of seven months, while in South Carolina it has taken just 16 weeks to surpass the Texas case count. “This is a milestone that we have reached in a relatively short period of time, very unfortunately,” she said at a press briefing Wednesday. “And it’s just disconcerting to consider what our final trajectory will look like for measles in South Carolina.” The state on Friday reported 58 new cases since Tuesday. This latest outbreak, as well as the speed at which it is spreading, is another test of the United States’ ability …

UK loses measles elimination status as vaccine rates fall

Cases of the virus are also surging outside of Europe as global vaccination rates plummet. Canada lost its measles-free status in December, and it is expected that the US – which is currently battling its worst outbreak in over two decades, with more than 2,000 cases and three infant deaths recorded in 2025 – is expected to follow this month. In the Americas, the rise of the virus comes amid a backdrop of intensified vaccine hesitancy in the US. In June, US health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr took an axe to the country’s top vaccine panel, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, replacing top scientists with several figures who have publicly opposed vaccines. Measles spreads faster than almost any other virus, with a single infected child likely to infect between 12 to 18 others. For every 100 cases, up to 20 people will suffer some form of complication. As of the beginning of January, the NHS has replaced the MMR vaccine in Britain with the MMRV jab – a vaccine that also provides protection …

UK loses measles elimination status, warns WHO | UK News

The UK has lost its measles elimination status from the World Health Organisation (WHO) after vaccination coverage plateaued and cases surged. From 2021 to 2023, the country was considered to have “eliminated” the disease, but global health officials say measles transmission was re-established in the UK in 2024. Vaccination coverage has flatlined in recent years, with recorded measles infections in the UK soaring to 3,681 in 2024. Spain, Austria, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan also lost their status, and the WHO urged countries to boost vaccination rates to prevent the disease infecting more children. “It is unsurprising the UK has lost its WHO measles elimination status, following nationwide outbreaks since 2024 and the preventable death of a child in 2025,” said Dr Ben Kasstan-Dabush, assistant professor of global health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The latest figures for England from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) show that in 2024-25, just 83.7% of five-year-olds had received both MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine doses, down year-on-year from 83.9%. This was the lowest …
