ICE Is Scanning Civilians’ Faces, Telling Them They’re Being Entered Into a Terrorism Database

Source: Stephen Maturen / Getty Images In case you needed further evidence that we’re living in the worst version of a cyberpunk dystopia, immigration officers are now scanning civilians’ faces to index them in a government database. Don’t take our word for it — just listen to the officers themselves. A video shared by freelance journalist Brian Allen appears to show a masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent scan a couple’s faces with his phone. “It’s not illegal to record,” the woman filming the ICE agents says after the agent points his phone at her. “Exactly, that’s what we’re doing,” another officer says. “Why are you taking my information down?” the woman behind the camera asks. The officer responds: “because we have a nice little database, and now you’re considered domestic terrorists.” “For video taping you? Are you crazy?” the woman shoots back before the clip ends. 🚨 HOLY SMOKES: ICE agents in Maine just photographed a civilian’s face and name and said they’re putting it in a database. …

America Has Entered Late-Stage Protein

America Has Entered Late-Stage Protein

On a recent Tuesday morning, I was blessed with a miracle in a mini-mart. I had set out to find the protein bar I kept hearing about, only to find a row of empty boxes. But then I spotted the shimmer. Pushed to the back of one carton, gleaming in its gold wrapper, was a single Salted Peanut Butter David Protein Bar. It was mine. David bars are putty-like rectangles of pure nutritional efficiency: 28 grams of protein stuffed into 150 calories, or roughly the equivalent of eight egg whites cooked without oil. They are booming right now. After all, in this era of protein mania, one must always be optimizing. A Quest bar might get you 20 grams of protein for just under 200 calories, but David—named after Michelangelo’s masterpiece—does more for less. “Humans aren’t perfect,” promises one David tagline, “but David is.” Why, given the possibility of perfection, would you accept eight grams less? If a food with more protein is better, then it follows that a food with less is worse. After …

Which Artworks Entered the Public Domain in 2026?

Which Artworks Entered the Public Domain in 2026?

With each passing year, new artworks are shorn of their copyright protections and entered into the public domain, allowing them to be used freely, without express permission from the estates that steward these pieces. This year, pieces by Salvador Dalí, José Clemente Orozco, and others of note have officially joined the public domain. There are some important exceptions about how these artworks can be used, however. In theory, in keeping with US copyright law, which states that a copyright lifts after 95 years unless it is renewed, any artwork produced in 1930 would now be rid of protections guiding it. But as Duke University’s Center for the Study of the Public Domain notes every year on what it terms Public Domain Day, copyright is a notoriously finicky thing in this country, related both to when an artwork was made and when it was released to the public and whether an estate or guiding entity has renewed the legal rights to a given piece. (This year’s Duke list also applies to the artworks themselves, and not …

UN Palestinian aid agency says Israeli police ‘forcibly entered’ its Jerusalem compound

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli police forcibly entered the compound of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees in east Jerusalem early Monday, escalating a campaign against the organization that has been banned from operating on Israeli territory. The U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, or UNRWA, said in a statement that “sizable numbers” of Israeli forces, including police on motorcycles, trucks and forklifts, entered the compound in the Palestinian neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. “The unauthorized and forceful entry by Israeli security forces is an unacceptable violation of UNRWA’s privileges and immunities as a U.N. agency,” the statement said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s office said that he will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on Dec. 29, although Israel did not confirm the location of the meeting. On Monday, Netanyahu met with U.S. officials in Jerusalem about collaboration on the U.S.-brokered plan on the future of Gaza. Israel’s long campaign against UNRWA The raid was the latest in Israel’s campaign against the agency, which provides aid and services to some 2.5 million Palestinian …
