Luke Evans on Broadway Role in ‘Rocky Horror,’ Tony Nomination

Luke Evans on Broadway Role in ‘Rocky Horror,’ Tony Nomination

When director Sam Pinkleton began envisioning a Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show, he drew up a list of qualities he believed the lead, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, needed to have.  “He had to be a truly tremendous actor. He had to be a real comedian, like a clown. He had to have a killer voice. He had to be terrifying, and also tender,” Pinkleton said. “We had to be scared of him, and we also had to want to fuck him. I also really felt strongly that it needed to be somebody who carried some kind of queerness with them, whatever that means.”  At first, Pinkleton was unsure who could embody all of that and provide a new take on the role made famous by Tim Curry. But when he met Luke Evans, an onscreen action star with a background in musical theater, he found a fit in an actor who happily contains his own contradictions.  Standing at 6 feet 8 inches in heels, Evans towers above cast members including Stephanie Hsu, Juliette Lewis, Harvey …

City Section playoff basketball: Sho Evans helps Cleveland win in OT

Sophomore Sho Evans of Cleveland High missed a potential game-winning shot at the end of regulation, but he did not let that reduce his confidence. When the Cavaliers needed help in overtime on Saturday night, he delivered during a 68-64 victory over Fairfax in the City Section Open Division semifinals at L.A. Southwest College. The Cavaliers will face top-seeded Palisades in Friday’s final. Palisades defeated San Pedro 71-56. Five of Evans’ seven points came in overtime, none bigger than a shot that went in with 50 seconds left while being fouled and Cleveland clinging to a 61-60 lead. He made the free throw, and that was the blow Fairfax couldn’t recover from after showing feistiness and resiliency all night. “I just had to have that shooter’s mentality when you miss or make, keep shooting,” Evans said. “My teammates and coaches trust me to make shots.” Charlies Adams finished with 24 points for Cleveland (20-9), which needed a free throw from Harout Posheyan with 2.6 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Shaun Evans reacts to Betrayal’s big episode 2 twist

*Warning – contains full spoilers for Betrayal episodes 1 and 2.* The second episode of spy thriller Betrayal has now aired on ITV1, and it ended on a major cliffhanger which shakes things up for the rest of the season. The final moments of the episode saw Shaun Evans’s MI5 agent character John sat in a car waiting for Mehreen, the new agent brought in from MI5 to take over his duties, played by Zahra Ahmadi. Mehreen was seen to be on the phone, and in a twist reveal, it appears as though she was speaking to a member of the Iranian regime, telling them that John got eyes on General Asadi, so “we’re compromised”. She then promised that he could “still be stopped”, suggesting that her allegiances lie away from John and MI5. RadioTimes.com caught up exclusively with Evans to talk about this twist and what it means to the rest of the season, with the actor teasing that “the hope is that we’re never quite sure where Mehreen’s loyalties lie – whether she …

Shaun Evans drama Betrayal feels like it was made in a different era

Shaun Evans drama Betrayal feels like it was made in a different era

We’ve seen spy thrillers on TV so many times before that any new addition to the genre needs to set out its stall quickly – especially given we’ve just had the welcome return of the BBC’s excellent The Night Manager. ITV’s new series Betrayal does that. It makes clear from the off that it’s a different kind of series, bringing the spycraft right down to earth, and making clear that as well as being about protagonist John’s professional life, it is also heavily hinged on his personal issues in his crumbling marriage. These are both potentially interesting concepts. However, just as quickly as the potential for innovation emerges, so too does a problem, and that is in the execution. That’s because for as much as it’s purporting to be a fresh take on a beloved yet highly exposed genre, so many aspects of this series feel incredibly dated – with the worst offender being its portrayal of John’s marital woes. Shaun Evans as John Hughes in Betrayal. Mammoth Screen for ITV Very early into the first …

Shaun Evans reveals how Betrayal most differs from other spy thrillers

Endeavour star Shaun Evans is back on ITV, this time starring in four-part spy thriller Betrayal, in which he plays a mid-career MI5 officer. The series follows Evans’s character John, as he finds himself under investigation, while also struggling with problems in his personal life, and becoming increasingly convinced that a hardline faction of the Iranian regime are planning an attack. When speaking with RadioTimes.com exclusively about the series, Evans noted that when adding to a genre as well established as the spy thriller, you have to bring “a fresh, new voice” to it. Evans said that the way in for him and the team behind the programme was to make John an “everyman figure”, and to look at “the daily life, the reality of what it’s actually like to work for the security services”. “The idea that you could be dealing with international terrorism at work and coming home and having to bath the kids or put a wash on, for me, seemed very fertile territory if we really wanted to dig into the …
