Helicopter Mom Seeking A Daughter-In-Law Posts Expectations & Requires References From Ex-Boyfriends

For some, getting along with the in-laws isn’t always the easiest task. One prospective mother-in-law, however, decided to take matters into her own hands so there wouldn’t be any doubts about her expectations for her son’s future wife. Domineering mother-in-law tropes make great characters in sit-coms and movies, but as they say, real life is stranger than fiction, and sometimes those over the top personalities find their way into our lives. That doesn’t immediately make them toxic or problematic, however. It sometimes just makes them quirky. What really matters is how her son handles this situation because becoming an adult doesn’t always turn off that mama bear mindset, even if it should. A mother seeking a daughter-in-law made a list of expectations on behalf of her son, and even asked for references from ex-boyfriends. X user @ask_aubry recently uploaded a screenshot of a Facebook post by a mother named Patty Francis, who seemed desperate to find a wife for her 26-year-old son, William Francis, and a daughter-in-law for herself. Patty began the post by listing …

Is Coachella Still Cool? 25 Years Later, Justin Bieber Reset Expectations

Is Coachella Still Cool? 25 Years Later, Justin Bieber Reset Expectations

But this year’s edition of Coachella isn’t just for Beliebers. Among the 125,000 attendees who descend upon the desert each weekend are flocks of influencers sent by brands like Poppi, Gap, and Guess for an extravagant experience sure to leave their millions of followers envious while they watch on their phones from afar. Coachella has been deemed the “Influencer Olympics,” and attending the festival with a brand is still considered the ultimate status symbol on the internet, with invitations getting more and more cutthroat and the trips becoming increasingly over-the-top with each passing year. But recently it’s turned the grounds into a content farm, ultimately diminishing the festival’s cool factor. Try to make your way from one stage to another and you’re bombarded with brand activations, photo opportunities, and seemingly endless lines to purchase branded merchandise. If you didn’t get a photo in front of the Ferris wheel, were you even there? And it’s not just limited to the music festival itself anymore: An entire village pops up in the surrounding area, with influencers making …

The Impact of Social Expectations on Men’s Depression

The Impact of Social Expectations on Men’s Depression

In therapy, I’ve found that my male clients don’t often start with the word depression. Instead, some may talk about feeling diminished, unmotivated, or stuck. They may feel lost, disconnected from themselves, cut off from joy or pleasure. Even if they are functioning well in the world, they may feel isolated, irritated, filled with self-doubt or shame as they face their own limitations, have a hard time navigating relationships, or try to find a way to “figure things out.” Some men describe a life that has become strained, empty, or directionless. Difficulties in men’s mental health are often expressed as a loss of self-regard, loneliness, or vitality. All these experiences can be expressions of depression in men, which are both shaped and impacted by social expectations. Depression is itself indicative of other challenges, conflicts, or feelings experienced deep inside. It is not an isolated “symptom” that can be fully addressed by a targeted intervention, without understanding it in the context of the individual’s history, socialization, and personality. During in-depth therapy, some men may recognize their …

Tesla (TSLA) Q1 2026 deliveries miss expectations at 358,000, builds 50,000 excess vehicles

Tesla (TSLA) Q1 2026 deliveries miss expectations at 358,000, builds 50,000 excess vehicles

Tesla released its Q1 2026 production and delivery results today, confirming 358,023 vehicle deliveries — about 7,600 units below the Wall Street consensus of 365,645 vehicles. More concerning than the miss itself is the gap between production and deliveries. Tesla produced 408,386 vehicles during the quarter but only delivered 358,023, adding over 50,000 vehicles to inventory in a single quarter. Q1 2026 results breakdown Here’s the full breakdown of Tesla’s Q1 2026 production and delivery figures:   Production Deliveries Subject to operating lease accounting Model 3/Y 394,611 341,893 1% Other Models 13,775 16,130 2% Total 408,386 358,023 1% The 358,023 deliveries represent a 6.3% year-over-year increase from Q1 2025’s 336,681 vehicles. But that comparison is deeply misleading. Q1 2025 was Tesla’s weakest quarter in years because the company shut down Model Y production lines across all four factories to transition to the refreshed “Juniper” Model Y. Beating a deliberately sandbagged quarter by just 6% is nothing to celebrate. Advertisement – scroll for more content Sequentially, deliveries dropped 14.4% from Q4 2025’s 418,227 vehicles — a …

Fury as watchdog digs in on ‘low expectations’ barb

Fury as watchdog digs in on ‘low expectations’ barb

Ofsted chief inspector Martyn Oliver has been blasted for an “incendiary” speech to school leaders, as headteachers insist schools’ contexts are not being adequately considered in inspections. Oliver told the ASCL conference on Friday he would “never acquiesce to the quiet curse of low expectations that would see Ofsted prioritise context over outcomes for the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children”. He claimed that where disadvantaged and vulnerable children are underperforming, critics “argue we should recognise the work and the effort – and downplay disappointing outcomes. “Of course we will recognise the work, celebrate where that school is doing well and identify the contextual challenges being faced. But we can never downplay the disappointing outcomes.” The comments have been widely condemned by leaders and unions, amid growing frustration at Ofsted’s use of national averages in new report cards. Leaders claim the new framework is unfair on schools with higher levels of disadvantage and SEND. But Ofsted argued this week the entire point of Oliver’s speech was to “take-on the claims that Ofsted is not doing enough …

Expectations from the EU Citizens Energy Package

Expectations from the EU Citizens Energy Package

Chris Vrettos, Senior Policy Advisor and Sara Tachelet, HR Director of REScoop, a EUSEW partner organisation, explore how the EU Citizens Energy Package will deliver community energy projects and promote clean power across the continent. Yesterday, the European Commission published its long-awaited Citizens Energy Package (CEP). The Package includes 1) a widely ambitious European goal for community energy projects (90GW by 2030), and 2) the commitment that the Commission will deliver much-needed guidance to Member States on creating regulatory frameworks and financing tools for energy communities. But, without being legally binding, will the Package live up to expectations? Connecting the legislative puzzle pieces There is a huge potential for citizen participation in the energy transition: 1 in 2 EU citizens could be producing their own energy by 2050, covering 45% of the EU’s energy demand. Crucially, these lofty goals translate into immediate, tangible benefits for EU citizens and businesses: participation in an energy community can result in yearly savings of up to €1100. Yet energy communities still struggle with the basics: an enabling regulatory framework, …

How to Break Free From Expectations and Live Authentically

How to Break Free From Expectations and Live Authentically

I was recently listening to a client process her thoughts and feelings regarding a profound realization: Her mother, whose approval she’d sought her entire life, had lied to her about her own achievements. My client, whom we’ll call Sydney, grew up idolizing her mom as a soccer star who had supposedly earned accolades from professional coaches and players. She also heard endless stories about her mom’s time at Yale, where, according to family lore, she’d been easily admitted and excelled. Sydney, now a young adult, had spent her childhood and adolescence striving to be a top athlete and stellar student. She pushed herself relentlessly, feeling as though she’d disappointed her mom when her own soccer skills didn’t get her much attention, and even more so when she couldn’t get into an Ivy League college. Imagine Sydney’s surprise when, during a visit from her mom’s childhood friends, she overheard them reminiscing about soccer camp and the supposed accolades from professional players. The stories, as it turned out, were completely fabricated. Sydney’s mom and her friends laughed …

NY Fed: Inflation Expectations Dropped To 1 Year Low Ahead Of Iran War Amid Improving Household Finances

NY Fed: Inflation Expectations Dropped To 1 Year Low Ahead Of Iran War Amid Improving Household Finances

While the latest NY Fed consumer expectations report shows sentiment from February, and does not account for the surge in oil prices as a result of the Iran war, the trend continues to be supportive which would be good news for the US economy if the current energy price spikes proves to be transitory.  In what was the calm before the Persian Gulf storm, Americans’ inflation expectations eased further back in February amid mixed views on the state of the ‌job market and current and future finances. Specifically, the expected level of inflation a year from now dropped to 3% from 3.1% in January, and the lowest since the start of 2025 while the projected level of inflation three and five years from now held steady at 3%. The New York Fed survey, released Monday, was conducted between February 2-28. As such, it does not capture the public’s reaction to surging oil prices that are the result of the Iran war, which has massively disrupted global energy supplies and sent crude over $100. Huge increases seen …

House price growth ‘steady’ while expectations grow for property market activity boost

Alice Haine, a personal finance analyst at Bestinvest by Evelyn Partners, said: “UK inflation had been expected to ease back sharply to the Bank of England’s target of two per cent by April, with the cocktail of rising unemployment, sluggish economic growth and slowing wage growth expected to provide enough impetus for the (Bank of England) to vote for another 25 basis-point reduction (in the base rate). Commentary: Supermarket plastic bag charge – a case where policies work but expectations diverge

Commentary: Supermarket plastic bag charge – a case where policies work but expectations diverge

LESSONS FROM OVERSEAS Comparatively, other jurisdictions have taken different approaches. Take Hong Kong for example, where the initial charge of HK$0.50 (US$0.06) was introduced in 2009 and limited to some 3,000 supermarkets, convenience stores and health and beauty shops. Between 2009 to 2015, retailers were required to return the charge to the government for environmental proceeds. Due to public feedback on the limited scope of the scheme, this was revised in 2015 to cover all retail outlets and subsequently doubled to HK$1 in 2022. From 2015, the charge was kept by retailers, with authorities noting a lack of manpower to monitor and collect the fees. Retailers are encouraged to donate them to suitable environmental causes. In contrast, jurisdictions like Ireland treat the charge as a levy, with proceeds channelled into a central environmental fund. That structure provides clarity, but it also frames the charge explicitly as a form of taxation which is a move that may not be politically or contextually suitable everywhere. If Singapore were to look to other jurisdictions for lessons, one implication …
